WhoCares release details

Gillan and Iommi’s charity project WhoCares will release it’s debut single on May 6 via Edel/eARmusic. The single will contain two brand new songs Out Of My Mind and Holy Water. Jon Lord, Nicko McBrain, Jason Newsted and Linde Lindström (HIM) also contributed to the project.

The single will be available in following formats:

  • CD with bonus video clip of Out Of My Mind and a 40-minute documentary that shows Gillan’s and Iommi’s involvement with the Armenia cause over the years
  • digital download for all of the above
  • 7" vinyl limited to 1000 units worldwide

Ian Gillan said:

The idea came as Tony and I flew back from Yerevan together after being inspired by the enthusiasm of everyone there to get this thing done. It was brilliant working with Tony again after all these years; he makes life easy for a singer. The other guys need no introduction do they!?

Tony Iommi added

Some twenty years ago when the call came, I thought, well at least I’ve helped, but it was going to Armenia and seeing the actual devastation caused by the earthquake that really made me realise that funds were still needed. Despite all the money that was raised last time, here was a music school doing their best, forgotten, in basic tin sheds. After the warmth and honour bestowed upon us during our visit, we just had to help make a difference and get the school re-built. And what better way than to
hook up with some of rock’s greatest players and my old mate Ian, both an honour and a pleasure.

All proceeds from this release will go towards rebuilding a musical school in the town of Gyumri that was devastated in the 1988 earthquake.

Could that only be the sound of the new Purple album I would be a very happy man. Purple needs to go back and be a real rock group again. If not there is no reason for a new album.

Song looks promising definitely better song then last efford from Iommi with Dio. In Intro Metallica meets Sabbath and to hear Jon hammond always priceless.
Gillan is singing with good melody but his voice is a little without power.

I hear the organ just fine, it has a very nice effect on Tony Iommi’s riffing, it takes the abrasive edge off without loosing the bite. Symphonic Sabbath, ha ha.

Only remaster of the album “Born Again” no remix and it sucks ! They couldn’t track down the original multi tracks,so it’s going to left for later on at some point(hopefully).Let’s hope that this remaster is better that the old ones. The second Cd has the a few live songs and that will be interesting to hear, since there’s no official release with I/G.I cannot wait to listen to an very underrated great album.

  27. 27
    Al says:

@24 hey buddy you can check Black Sabbath Online Home Page. You have all the updates about the old Sabbath catalog and the info and news about all teh remixes and remastering.Or maybe you know that already …but just to let you know.
    peace out

    purplepriest1965 says:

    Hi Al

Unfortunately inbetween we have come to the conclusion that BA not will be what we are all begging for for decades now : (

I d like to change that horrible cover as well.

Looking at the backcover they must have enough material to use a good bandshot for the front, IMHO.

And now we all know that Gillan still can sing ROCK. The next Purple album MUST be on this level. I’m just no to sure about Morse and rock guitar.

    Hi Bo

    Thought it was a positive(idea).
In the past I used to feel Sabbath and Purple were too diifferent to be mixed up.

Ok, Born Again has “something” but always felt he should be in DP.

Nonetheless, Tony Iommi has gained more and more respect through the years with me.

He made so many splendid albums with Dio,Hughes and then several with Martin, it was clear that a fusion between Rainbow/DP personell and or IDEAS/styles wasnt that bad after all.

I like the different influences in DP through the years but, yes indeed, since Morse arrived they have “trouble” making new Heavy Rock classics.

And where they made good ones, they neglected it after some time.

    Where is the Purpendicular Waltz
    7th Heaven
    Hey Cisco

    And so on…..

So many years to use Strangeways live and extending it to old fashioned Space Trucking proportions also saddens me sometimes.
