Communion at Hellfest
Black Country Communion performance at the Hellfest from June 21, 2025, has been posted to YouTube by ARTE Concerts. It is promised to be available for a whole year, until June 20, 2026.
Thanks to Daniel Bengtsson for the info.
Who recommended THAT haircut to poor Glenn? It looks like something a rare bird species would perhaps like to nest in.
https://ethologisch.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Beitragsbild-Weissbrauenweber-2048×1024.jpg
It‘s a terrible mix of what looks like hair augmentation, a weird color and a bouffant style last seen in the 60s.

The no good, the bad & the ugly.
Gabi, Glenn‘s wife, should have prevented this. Sometimes, a loving spouse needs to be cruel to be kind. “Glenn, you can’t go out like this!”

“Who recommended THAT haircut to poor Glenn? It looks like something a rare bird species would perhaps like to nest in.”
Well I think it suits him! Goes very well with his singing 😁😆
June 23rd, 2025 at 08:09@ 1- I prefer Dusty Springfield’s nest Uwe, much more appealing. Now do NOT go there. Plus she was a better singer than Glenn and Glenn gets one back as he would be the better bass guitarist. So it is 2-1 to Dusty at present. Cheers.
June 23rd, 2025 at 09:55Another old rock star looking like an old lesbian.
June 23rd, 2025 at 12:15I keep commenting on their IG posts that they need to play in Los Angeles/Orange County area again (Saw them on their first tour here). Heck, at least half of the band lives here! I guess that this will have to do until that happens, if ever.
June 23rd, 2025 at 13:15Well Uwe I think it has to be said that IG is a much better role model for aging with dignity than GH or DC. And it’s not the hairdo alone. At least he doesn’t look like your granny after she had won the whole treatment program on a sea cruise for US citizens 80+.
June 23rd, 2025 at 14:48how boring, not engaging at all..
June 23rd, 2025 at 15:05😴
In case anybody wonders why I focused on Glenn’s hair, the music had already been dealt with here @12 in the CHOSEN thread:
https://www.thehighwaystar.com/news/2025/06/06/chosen/
I saw them in Cologne two days before the Hellfest performance and they were fresher and even a tad better there than in France on Saturday where the heat must have been an issue (Cologne was a hot day too, but temperatures still climbed even more in Europe). The Hellfest appearance in a desert climate (just look at how the audience is being showered with water) concluded there European tour, Cologne was the penultimate date (and got great reviews in the local press).
I like it that BCC live is not just riffs, thunderous drums and Glenn’s pushy bass playing, but that they also include a soulish number like the wonderful Wanderlust in their live set where the whole band adjusts to a more laidback groove:
https://youtu.be/e_PeVE3g2ZA
I had seen BCC only once before in their very early days (14 years ago!) and wasn’t that much of a fan, but the Cologne gig really impressed me, especially Bonham jr’s drumming and Bonamassa’s tasteful, yet dynamic guitar playing. (With Glenn I knew what I would be getting bass playing-wise and vocally, he never falls under a certain standard, even when ill or with a low audience turnout.) Derek Sherinian is also a lot more prominent in the live sound than how I remembered him from 2011, giving the band some sonic elegance.
I can understand Glenn’s frustration now, if this band could tour regularly, I could see them becoming a reliably substantial live act, not on a superstar level, but good for medium size and sometimes larger halls. But of course, Bonamassa’s solo career success drowns out everything and who can blame him devoting the majority of his time to that.
Glenn says that he “really isn’t a band person”; well, with BCC he at least seems to be. The rapport with Bonamassa on stage appears real and approaches the “toxic twins” Bolin/Hughes tandem intensity of yore, minus the joint enamorment for substance abuse of course!
That haircut is still terrible though. 😑
June 23rd, 2025 at 15:34Who cares about the hair when the music is great 👍
June 23rd, 2025 at 15:54I am just so glad that they dropped the usual DP tracks and they didn’t finish the show with Burn.
Peace ✌️
I am now in deep and worried thought what a man from Tassie, of all places, could wish to insinuate with his cryptic admission of preferring Ms Springfield’s, uhum, “nest”. Something to do with geographical outlines maybe? Das Sein bestimmt das Bewusstsein.
Watch this space while I deliberate and try to drum up a suitable repartee …
Given Dusty‘s legendary and well-documented preferences, I feel however honor-bound to dispel any high hopes from your part(s), Herr MacGregor!
Always loved “I Only Wanna Be With You” in all its various versions over the years.

“At least he doesn’t look like your granny after she had won the whole treatment program on a sea cruise for US citizens 80+.”
Sarcasm in its most sharp form 😃
Gotta love that 😅
June 23rd, 2025 at 20:28GH looks freaking RIDICULOUS…an embarrassment to the DP family tree
June 23rd, 2025 at 21:16I don’t care about his hairs but he sings really bad there. His singing is weakest link during the cincert. Sounds out of place on Zeppelin style of music…
June 23rd, 2025 at 21:20They do play Mistreated – at Joe’s insistence who loves the song.
June 23rd, 2025 at 22:31Böse Karin! 😈
June 23rd, 2025 at 22:47Not sure where to mention this. A sad note, Mick Ralphs has passed from this earth. Too much suffering for him for the last nine years, that stroke he had was a nasty one. Bless him. A wonderful guitarist, musician and all round good guy, from Mott The Hoople to Bad Company. Even a live support guitarist for a David Gilmour tour back in 1984. Rest easy Mick and thanks for the music.
June 24th, 2025 at 01:13Poor Hughesy, he cannot win. From a long haired 70’s rocker to a drag queen dragged in from the street. Life is hard isn’t it. Anyway, ‘old’ Gillan looks a bit like an old man who should be sitting his rocking chair chewing on a piece of straw and contemplating life and then falling asleep. It happens folks, we get older and start to look (and feel) dishevelled (feral). It could be worse. Cheers.
June 24th, 2025 at 01:35To give credit where credit’s due, there was a time when he was the bushiest Deep Purple ever …
https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTAAcSD9mIIhd2KbILAb_dWgkqRgPzaeqL-8CQYa4uxjf_otZ8v
David Bowie told him to cut it, said it wasn’t fashionable anymore.
And the female in rapt attention, I wonder if that is Linda Blair’s behind we’re looking at?
June 24th, 2025 at 02:16@15
That might be Uwe! But I love rock’n’roll, I make really nice coffee, I love animals and… well that’s all!
June 24th, 2025 at 06:24Official Statement: The FBI has just added the individual responsible for Glenn Hughes’s latest haircut to its list of the 10 most dangerous criminals. Anyone who provides investigators with information that significantly contributes to the identification and arrest of this individual will be offered a substantial reward and, along with their loved ones, will benefit from a special witness protection program.
June 24th, 2025 at 06:26#13: If you take into consideration his age, bass playing duties and the apparent heat, I would say he’s got nothing to be ashamed of vocally. Nowhere to hide in that mix for sure. Naked and live.
June 24th, 2025 at 18:55I can’t quiet understand why there’s a general sense of lotta haters here.
June 24th, 2025 at 22:44Maybe Glenn is not at his full, but hey, even at this level he is top, unbreakable.
It’s really great to see them playing live again, the last of the BIG bands.
And never mind how they get along together, as long as they keep on producing music.
About the looks of one or the other, don’t give a fkn shit and don’t think anyone should, Glenn’s far beyond that.
Long live BCC!
Well I have to agree with some of you : Glenn sounds off pitch many many times here and he looks terrible… But at least we can enjoy his great bass playing 😁
June 24th, 2025 at 23:30Uwe, had forgotten Bay City Rollers!
Oh and Annie Lennox! The Tourist…. When did they become Eurythmics?
And a bossa nova at the end! I do prefer the more lively songs, but Shelby Lynne has a charm 😊
Dusty however – ohhh what a great voice!
Thanks for the links 😊
June 25th, 2025 at 02:42It’s good that he’ll be going back solo now though. I wouldn’t mind seeing him open the show with Addiction on the upcoming tour, to set the right tone.
June 25th, 2025 at 12:58@20
😄😄😄
June 25th, 2025 at 15:58“Glenn sounds off pitch many many times here and he looks terrible …”
I believe it really was the heat, he was battling with it. I saw him only two days before and he was (and looked) much better,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJCbgy479J0
(Great performance – with Joe B also in great Bolin’esque form!)
but the gig was in the evening and there was sun protection above and before the stage. The fact that Glenn just wore a T-shirt on stage in France just says it all, he normally goes for a much more layered look when performing. It must have been unbearably hot and once you are the age of Glenn that just gets to you. Hellfest (apt name!) wasn’t air-conditioned LA.
Along with JLT, Glenn is certainly the (former) DP-vocalist with the still most forceful voice. DC has signed out from singing anymore at all and IG ages gracefully, but carefully paces himself live (which is fine, he’s also quite a bit older than Glenn – six years -, once you are the age of these men, every year shows).
Old men shouldn’t have to play in the sun! There’s a saying in (my part of) Germany “Im Sommer sterwe die Leut’!,” people die in summer.
*******************************************
Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox went straight from being band members (and a couple) in The Tourists to becoming the Eurythmics in 1980.
June 25th, 2025 at 16:34@22
I guess Joan that most said in here is just making fun 😊
June 25th, 2025 at 18:08Glenn is flamboyant in appearance and he likes to draw attention to himself – with that goes being a target for fashion criticism and ridicule, I have no issues with that. I probably own more Glenn Hughes session appearances than most people on the planet and adore the man’s bass playing and singing, but even I do declare that hairdo gives you immediate eye cancer!
He himself has said in an interview some years back that he can no longer walk the streets of his former home town in Cannock, Midlands. UK, because the way he looks he nearly got beaten up and chased around the block by a bunch of youths thinking he was an “old poof” last time he tried. In this day and age, I thought that a sad state of affairs, but an English blue collar town isn’t LA as a live & let live-stance towards life goes.
June 25th, 2025 at 19:45No worries, Joan, Glenn has very vocal supporters here too, bad haircuts or not. I’m happy that Glenn’s parents gave him to us
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsTHJFvtJk8
and DP’s history would be a lot less colorful without him. His contribution to Mk III and IV sounding like they did is also regularly underrated even by many Purple fans.
June 25th, 2025 at 22:45Interesting that a haircut gets such attention. Personally I am listening to the chunky bass playing 🙂
June 26th, 2025 at 07:16Yes, Glenn’s bass playing is all spit & vinegar with balls large bough to bounce off on.
June 26th, 2025 at 08:50Yes, Glenn’s bass playing is all spit & vinegar with balls large enough to bounce off on.
June 26th, 2025 at 08:52I think it’s fair to say that the wearer of Glenn’s haircut actually wants to draw attention to it! And that it certainly does.
June 26th, 2025 at 10:14@31
Nah, not that interesting. Just fun. Some of us manage to listen to the bass playing with eyes open, that’s about it.
And no hate here at all. GH is a fabulous bass player and an even better singer. Just looks a bit like that aunt with the red glasses and remarried to an architect visiting a vernissage this time around.
June 26th, 2025 at 13:51Any DP member deserves some ridicule from us for their respective idiosyncrasies, we’ve all made them rich and famous.
Glenn is an easy target, but he’s not a bad person, just high maintenance.
June 26th, 2025 at 23:42Mildly related, it’s a great number, but he doesn’t do it live very often:

“Just looks a bit like that aunt with the red glasses and remarried to an architect visiting a vernissage this time around.”
– 😂🤣
And if I may add: with a very tiny incontinent dog in her bag 😄
(Sorry Joan, not really making fun of Glenn, Max just draws very funny pictures in my head 😅)
June 27th, 2025 at 05:09What is being posted here in terms of nasty comments about Glenn Hughes is unworthy of a Deep Purple fan forum, shame on you, you hairstyle haters; Glenn is still top-notch and you haters need to achieve something that even comes close to 2% of his achievements as he’s nearing 80!
July 8th, 2025 at 13:00Why does a negative comment count as “hate” in 2025?
July 8th, 2025 at 22:06@39
‘Wenn niemand mehr lacht, wird endlich alles gut.’
I like to think of this forum as a group of people sharing and imterest, experiences, opinions …and maybe a laugh? My buddies make fun of me, my sons do it – so why not make fun of a musician most of us really admire. That doesn’t have to go for his hairdo… I sense no hate at all, just good clean fun
July 9th, 2025 at 08:47Yes, laughter is important, and you can even make a joke about Glenn now and then, but making fun of him and his hair almost exclusively in countless posts is unworthy and doesn’t do justice to his still-good live presence. It’s more malice than humor, just making jokes about other people’s looks instead of talking about the music, which is still really good. What kind of music forum is this? Will we be talking about nail color or shoes next?
July 9th, 2025 at 10:58Well, it’s easier to laugh at others than at yourself. Thats not my kind of humor, but maybe yours. What do you think Glenn would think about the posts, if he would read them? Making jokes about a man who ist nearly 80 with thin hair?
..and yes, the above posts 1,2,4,12 etc are something like hate! Thats no “fun” for me, sorry and good bye!
Oh please Gerd, don’t get us started on the nails… DC has a lot to offer here, as has GH…
July 9th, 2025 at 11:58Well Glenn’s praises get sung here quite often. I attended his last show around here and am looking forward to seeing him again in september. His singing.is brillant. His hairdo on the other han…upps.
I don’t know how he felt about it if he read what we share here – but given the fact he’s from the black country I.imagine he can take a joke.
sorry, i must correct: post 1 was indeed funny…
July 9th, 2025 at 11:59A joke, yes, but five is starting to get a bit too spiteful, I pointed that out. That’s enough now, enough defending, you can move on. I don’t really care. I just stumbled across this and thought I wasn’t reading it right. A DP forum with Glenn Hughes bashing? But I understand now that you don’t mean any harm, it’s all good!
July 9th, 2025 at 12:50@41
“maybe a laugh”
– I agree Max, we have it very gemütlich in here.
I giggle a lot reading and writing 😄
And Max, I promise you: nothing I write is meant as hate, not at all.
And Gerd, @42 – take it from me, I’m ridiculed all the time for my lack in understanding music ! Among a lot other things. (I am a complete fool regarding grammar 🫣 and I cannot find my way, I depend 110% on my GPS… so embarrassing 😁)
I never get offended because most of what people say to and about me is true! And the best medicine is to be able to laugh at one self!
“Will we be talking about nail color or shoes next?”
July 9th, 2025 at 13:27– I would love to! I’ve just got a new nail colour, Purple it is, very pretty 😄
Gerd, I wave the Glenn Hughes flag here all the time re his bass playing, his singing, his contributions to Mk III and IV, his body of work as a solo artist plus his commitment of treating any audience of any size in any venue as if it was the California Jam in 1974 all over again. Only Karin re Ian Gillan really beats me in zealous frenzy reaching near-0rgasmic idolatry, but then a good man must know his own inherent limitations.
If Glenn was bald or balding, it would be of no issue to me. I’m happy that Rob Halford never pretended otherwise and thought JLT’s coming-out as hairless (due to alopecia) bold and cool. Glenn, however, dresses and wears his hair to catch attention which makes him as much open game to style critique as, say, Cher (and I like the old gal, I.e. what’s left of her as well) or Kim Kardashian. I poke fun at everyone, myself, my wife, my kids, my friends and colleagues plus people here. BTW, I find Ritchie’s hair augmentation that valiantly tries to defy biology hilarious as well.
So I will continue to defend Glenn’s bass playing & singing here as well as gloss over his occasional bigmouth excesses (which don’t really rub me the wrong way, I find people who are full of themselves unwittingly amusing), yet at the same time find some of his wardrobe and hairdo choices risible. I saw him this year with Rock Meets Classic and BCC already and will see him solo once more in a few months, no matter what esthetic challenges his then sported look may bring, in a way he is after all the Dave Hill of the Deep Purple Family

https://youtu.be/sKYYPh8rvQU
and answer truthfully, Gerd, how can anyone equipped with a heart not love Dave Hill?!
At least Glenn’s appearance is something to talk about.
(And if I may add: He doesn’t wear gas station-acquired, “buy-three-and-pay-for-only-two” sleeveless T-shirts with mock-Native American & critter airbrush motif kitsch – I’m eternally thankful for that! 😈)
July 9th, 2025 at 16:09I’ll admit that DC’s zunehmende Ähnlichkeit>/i> with Lena Valaitis over the years has given me issues too …

July 9th, 2025 at 16:24NOT to mock GH at all, but I just read this in a magazine, regarding Ian Gillan, and why so many of us dig him:
“ It’s not just the voice—the range, the screams—it’s the feeling, the delicate touches, and the phrasing in the songwriting. All of it unique, and all of it spot on.”
– I simply can’t put it better myself!
July 9th, 2025 at 17:11Glenn is still the better bassist – duh!
And he can be delicate too.
