Share the same dream

Blackmore’s Night also took advantage of the latest technologies undistinguishable from magic (and undoubtedly enhanced with magic spells and fairy dust). Here is the around-the-table performance of Magical World, which originally appeared on the low profile VHS release Live In Germany 1997-1998.

Thanks to steve4422 for holding the fort on both fronts.

This would have been great on Machine Head.

Not really. Drag your GF to the studio and destroy your band. Just ask the Beatles.

Is your comment a brilliant example of the world famous German humour 😄

Uwe Hornung says:

One hears that Babs (Blackmore wife #2) wasn’t all that popular with the other DP members in the early 70s, possibly because her relationship with Ritchie was already strained and vice versa, they accused each other of adultery, likely both of them were right about that. 🤗

I’m reasonably confident that Candice would have charmed her way through, she’s very good with people. Never mind how she would have been only six months old during the recoding of Machine Head and therefore been somewhat distracting and attention-grabbing in getting things done in the cold and drafty Grand Hotel!

Must admit, when I sent this to Nick for his approval …I honestly thought it was recent , not 20 odd years ago! So , apologies if I mislead anyone.
I do hope Ritchie is alright and healthy though as there seems to be a lot of Blackmore esq stuff around at the moment…hope it’s not a sign of anything…

Steve, it seems to me like you’re not very good at guessing a woman’s age … 🫣 Hopefully that doesn’t happen too often or I might have to offer my services (at reduced rates). “She looked a lot older and sure was experienced and all that!” is NOT a good legal defense! ☝️😎

Candice was 26 at the time – and she both looked it and sounded like it.

You’re not by any chance in education are you?

In case you missed what Nick has so cruelly denigrated as a “low profile VHS release” (I think he meant to say “overt commercialism eschewing cottage industry charm-artsy documentary”) first time around, here it is in all its glory:

Some good Blackmore solos there. Young Candice was at that early point in her career (she had never sung professionally before, let’s be fair) not yet pitch-accurate and you can hear it too. So forgive the bum notes and the occasional sour pitching, this was all before AutoTune and pitch correction, she makes up for it with youthful charm. I think that fast forward a few years, Candice was using pitch correction live, but not a lot (more rock and pop singers do than they ever care to admit), likely not more than a quarter note or less. I once saw her do a soundcheck in Fulda and you could hear how she sounded with and without it. The difference wasn’t night and day (she has a nice and tuneful voice even without any treatment), but the full Candice sound you have grown used to live is a little processed.

This is quite a trip down memory lane: I had forgotten how rocky initial Blackmore’s Night (still) was and of course the later Schlager-ingredient wasn’t as prominent yet. And Candice was still so shy, she didn’t really say a word at interviews unless pressed, sehr goldig!

Uwe Hornung says:

(in an accusing tone) That this was an early incarnation of BN was not just given away by Candice’s and Ritchie’s then youthfulness i.e. “relative youthfulness”, but also by ex-Rainbow drummer John O’Reilly’s (who only lasted about half a year in BN, but would do well later on with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra) and bassist Mick Cervino’s (who played too complex for Ritchie’s liking and was let go in 2000) presence.

(in a sterner, cutting voice)

Not that I have ever complained about how the format possibilities here at THS are in IT evolutionary terms a bit … well 🙄 … akin to still writing on papyrus rolls … 😈 ! But that kind of corresponds with the subject matter of commemorating living and breathing 70s dinosaurs 🦕 🦖 , doesn‘t it? 😂

Uwe Hornung says:

Darth Vader was a direct rip-off from Doctor Doom, no one ever saw that really. I remember seeing the first Star Wars in the cinema and thinking at Lord Vader’s appearance: I can’t believe they have actually stuck Doctor Doom in there! I was a Marvel nut as a kid, so I was aware of the Marvel villains and Doctor Doom, The Lizard & Doc Octopus were among my favorites because there was something tragic about them.

Darth Vader and Yoda as characters were the only saving grace(s) of that movie, otherwise I found the plot extremely lame. I like good SciFi (Planet of the Apes, Dune, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Dark Star, Gattaca, Silent Running, Omega Man, 2001: A Space Odyssey or Soylent Green, even Star Trek has its charm because of the vivid characters), but Star Wars was just a dumb, lightweight fairy tale for kiddies.

What do I know. Just like the similarly inane AC/DC it became immensely popular. 🤣

Thank you and goodnight.

…and I have been wondering for years and years what on earth, no, make that: in space made all the world think this uninspired star wars saga was deep and meaningful.

I was really disappointed Don Airey played the tune to that kitsch during his solo spot.

So on one appreciate Star Wars!!

It’s an epic story about the constant battle between the evil and the good!

Ok, Chewbacca was probably a bit to the side… but Jar Jar was worse 😝🤓
But the story itself is amazing!

And when James Earl Jones talked as Darth Vader! Woah…. Chills down my spine 🤩
“Luke, I am your father…”

Find myself quoting SW when I need to emphasise words! Just like Jar Jar Binks 😄 noooo!

More like Yoda:
“On many long journeys have I gone. And waited, too, for others to return from journeys of their own. Some return; some are broken; some come back so different only their names remain.”- gotta love that ☺️

And by this I bid you all a good night 💤

I hated Princess Leia‘s hair and her silly gowns.

When Jabba the Hut finally introduced her to BDSM wear that was alright and the man cannot be thanked enough, a successful personal stylist if there ever was one. Less is more.

It‘s weird that the Star Wars character everyone seems to hate – Jar Jar Binks – is one of my favorite ones. I think I hated the bloody Ewoks the most.

Karin Verndal says:

@25

Uwe!

It isn’t like you to be fishing for compliments 😄

But never the less, and since I’m in a good mood today:

Nooooo! You are not annoying at all 😊☺️
You are funny and very gut orientiert (hope that is the right word?) regarding everything in music and the events of the world!

And since you have seen Star Wars: which are the best? The first (that were the last) or the last (that then were the first?)
And who will be the voice of the death Darth Vader now The Original Voice sadly is dead?
Guess this is a moment in time where AI actually will fill a void! (Unless Darth Vader will not appear at all anymore. Sad, because his breathing reminds me so much of this singer David -‘something’ 😄) (I do like David C’s voice, just not when he sounds like a severe bronchitis infection 🥺)

27. 27
Uwe Hornung says:

I think the last one of the original six, where a young Darth Vader was chopped up by Ewan M, was the worst one. And the one with the Ewoks, the last one of the original first three. The second one where Luke hides in the guts of that alien kangaroo is my favorite of the old ones.

Of the complete franchise, Rogue One is the best one because it defies convention somewhat. If you liked that then the extended cuts of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Parts One & Two are a dream come true for you on NETFLIX.

Those Stormtroopers of the Empire in Star Wars always had the worst aim imaginable and their armor never protected them from anything! 😂 They should have taken some extra hours on the shooting range of Uncle Ted …

https://youtu.be/NHOFt0axxdk

Back when Ted Nugent was still a shit-hot band and not an asinine individual.

Thinking about it, what made Star Wars so lame and, uhum, flaccid was the nearly complete absence of hot women, my God even that pseudo-Christian rubbish “The Chronicles of Narnia” had more erotic appeal, anything with Tilda Swinton does, she’s the epitome of hot.

– 🤣🤣🤣

So no one cares about the dialogue, the epic and never tedious excitement about the fight between good and bad, as long as there are eye candy galore!
