About time but on this show i’d have expected them to perform!! A cross section of bands stand in a circle in the studio and take turns to perform, a perfect platform for Purple! No doubt there will be the obligatory film clip.

If my memory is correct Purple last performed on UK TV back in 1998 on Ch4’s Breakfast show…nice clip…

Can’t wait to see this one. Hopefully Jools will ask some real questions as opposed to the dribble he usually regurgitates.

I didnt think Purple were the type of band for this show, there seems to be a certain amount of musical snobbery that surrounds the show, well at least thats how it appears to me.
Good to see them on it though, never forget that Andy Kershaw on Old Grey Whistle test having a go at Big Ian and Lordy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRq77NumqkU

Saw him a few years later on the train (Kershaw) and i told him what i thought of him.

Good news & bad news about this:-

Good news is – if you haven’t seen it, you haven’t missed a thing

Bad news is – it was crap

Jools Holland (man void of a sense of humour) was more interested in the ?! graphic on the album cover than actually conducting a sensible interview about the music on it. It lasted a couple of minutes, interrupted with a clip of DP on Top Of The Tops circa 1970! Gillan looked uncomfortable, and IP didn’t get the chance to say more than a couple of words.

Considering this is essentially a British band on a British (albeit BBC) show – it was awful, almost embarrassing.

Seems only people living in the UK can actually watch this on line, which too bad. We get the Jools Holland show here in Canada on TV but they are old episodes. I guess I’ll have to wait about 4-5 years before I can actually see the two Ian’s being interviewed. Booo to the BBC.

    Hi Jim,
first of all, I was also disappointed that i cannot watch it here; then I found a solution and it worked perfectly:

Agree with t a lot of the above. Jools’ quesitnes were silly and Gillan perhaps responded in that way too. Hardly the respect they deserve. Paicey barely got a look in. Cue usual video tape of TOTP and that’s it… I suppose we have to be happy in a week in which Ian and Ian and DC were on the BBC.

    The snobbery.
I feel the same when I look at this show/presenter.

The show also has a bad history, or should I say none?, regarding DP people.

    They should have stayed home.

    Emberassing indeed.

    David Sanderson says:

@15, I just got around to watching the friday repeat, not a fan of Jools Holland personally but he is an accomplished musician and he obviously respected Jon Lord, he did go on a bit about ‘Smoke on the water’ and the album cover but it was good to see a clip of a recording session and to see DP on national TV in a reasonably conducted interview.

@7, Remember watching that, Andy Kershaw seemed fixated with how much money DP were making rather than talking about the album, not sure what he was trying to achieve but he managed to ruin the interview. I quite like Andy Kershaw, he introduced a lot of people to a lot of rare music in the pre internet days but he was provocative in this clip, Ian and Jon did well not to rise to the bait.
