There has been some changes to Glenn Hughes tour dates scheduled for November-December this year in Europe. The changes have likely been precipitated by co-headliners Living Colour pulling out “due to an unforeseen conflict”. Undoubtedly, they would have accounted for a not an insignificant portion of the sales, so some dates have to be cancelled, while others moved to different venues, while yet others decided to go ahead with different support acts, but offer a choice of full refund or free drinks as a compensation.

Glenn Hughes visited the University of North Dakota this past weekend to lecture the students on the subject that he knows all too well — drug addiction. Student newspaper reports:
Whether a recovering alcoholic or a young at-risk student, Hughes has made it his mission to do what he can to intercept those at risk before substantial issues begin to arise. The wisdom he has gained through his 65 years is something Hughes believes he did not have at a younger age and a quality many others could benefit from.
“My message to you all is that I hope you can hear what I’m saying and I hope you can understand that what I did helped nobody,” Hughes said. “I’ve watched my friends struggle with the same disease and lost too many of them along the way.”
“I don’t remember anything about the ‘80s. I remember absolutely nothing. It’s all just a blur.”
“There are two types of people on this planet: alcoholics and non-alcoholics. There is no in between … it is a terrible disease that needs to be treated.”
“Without guidance from above and without the channel that I’m given to give back to you, I don’t know where’d I’d be today. I am so supremely grateful to be on the green side of the grass to come from a loving family and one that was willing to be so supportive.”

Fun fact: the night before, on October 9, Whitesnake headlined the second day of Loud Park 16, a two day festival in Saitama. An ex-snakeman Doug Aldrich played at the festival on October 9 with his current band The Dead Daisies. Another family tree member Ronnie Romero was also at the same festival the day before, on October 8, with his band Lords of Black.

What this has to do with The Highway Star, you may ask? Well, for starters, before him rock’n’roll lyrics rarely went above the level of “shake, baby, shake” (albeit nothing is wrong with that per se). After him, they started telling the stories of struggle between good and bad and calling to give peace a chance.

There will be a couple of loosely associated Purple events held next week in Warsaw, Poland.
The Jon Lord Memorial Concert will happen on Thursday, October 13, at Proxima Club. Seeing as this is the fifth such occasion happening annually since 2012, it can safely be chalked as a good tradition (this tradition is the brainchild of Polish musician Łukasz Jakubowicz). The house band Made in Warsaw (with Łukasz on keyboards) will perform with an array of guest musicians from the local bands. The 3+ hours program will include big hits and obscure numbers from Deep Purple and Whitesnake.
