Bits and pieces (presumably, the good ones) from Ian Paice’s drum clinic held at the Adams Drummersfestival in March 2014. Young and old drummers alike, take note!
And an oldie but goody — his clinic at the Bass’n’Drum Festival in Stockholm back in 2005:
If it floats, Dutch can play music on it. 😉 Here’s the proof — Dutch band Helloise and Art Vark saxophone quartet perform Smoke on the Water at the 2012 Rotterdam Harbour Fest:
Thanks to Ben Blaauw for the video and to Hadely for bringing it to your attention.
Last month California Breed were touring UK supporting Slash and Myles Kennedy. In Glasgow on December 4 Glenn Hughes and Andrew Watt joined the headliners on stage for a pretty blistering rendition of Burn:
Thanks to david williams for the video and to Tracy for bringing it to your attention.
An Italian new report on Paicey’s appearance in Santomato on December 19. Includes a bit of the press conference where he talks about challenges of playing under less than perfect conditions:
Thanks to Yvonne for the info.
And with this, we wrap up our coverage for 2014 and wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year. Cheers!
A collection of pictures taken by Torben Skøtt at the Vejlby Risskov Hallen, Aarhus, Denmark, on February 3, 1973 has been posted online. A very relaxed crowd at a rather intimate setting with Mark II in full flight. You can see it at torbenskott.dk.
In his annual end-of-year message, Roger Glover recaps what happened in 2014 and concludes with holiday greetings:
The best of the season to all and thank you to friends old and new, the steadfast DP crew and management, my band-mates, my webmaster Andreas Thul, and not least of all to the people that came to our shows around the world and gave us such a welcome – you are the reason we exist.
Another archival release is being prepared by Edel, and this one looks quite interesting. Titled simply Long Beach 1971 it contains a widely bootlegged show from July 30, 1971, recorded for University of Southern California’s radio station KUSC, to be aired on their Monday Night Airbag Live show hosted by Elliot Mass. Darker Than Blue posted some of the backstory almost 3 years ago. (Yes, that’s how long the pipeline is.)
The set list was rather short: Speed King / Strange Kind Of Woman / Child In Time / Mandrake Root, as the band was sandwiched between the openers Southern Comfort, and The Faces, who headlined the gig.
Release date is tentatively set for March 2, 2015.
Thanks to Daniel Falaschi and Lutz Reinert for the info.
Joe Lynn Turner appeared on the Sex, Drugs & Rock’n’Roll podcast. Frankly speaking, none of us had the patience to sit through it, so if anyone does and finds that there was something interesting, please post in comments.
Parlophone will be re-releasing the Concerto’69, In Rock and Fireball repackaged as a 3CD box set on January 9.
Curiously, Concerto track listing includes both the Hush / Wring That Neck / Child in Time trifecta and the 3rd Movement encore, somehow all squeezed on one CD (the 2002 remaster came out on 2CDs clocking out of 90 minutes in total). Even more curiously, In Rock contains just 6 tracks of the original album with Living Wreck missing, and they come as 1995 anniversary edition remasters, but without any bonus tracks. Fireball appears to be the anniversary edition, complete with bonus tracks.
All these observations are contingent on the presumption that the tracklist released by the record company to onlineretailers has not been screwed up (which has happened before).
Thanks to Lutz Reinert for the info, and to Nigel Young and metaljim for pointing out missing Living Wreck.
