Ian Gillan DVD – Update

The upcoming DVD with Ian Gillan is a two-and-a-half hour documentary, full of music, lost archive footage, tales from Ian Gillan and interviews from members of Deep Purple (both past and present). It features Tony Iommi, Joe Satriani, Joe Elliot, Ronnie James Dio, Luciano Pavarotti, Jon Lord, Colin Towns, Sir Tim Rice, the late, George Best and many others. It’s filmed in Russia, England, Ireland, Wales and Italy. The “Smoke On The Water” story is filmed in Montreux, Switzerland.

On top of that, there’s another documentary made by Ian himself. He spent three years travelling around the globe with Deep Purple with his own camera. Then there’s the music extras, filmed during the Bananas tour. Enhanced by more archive footage of the Gillan band in action (never released on Video or DVD) and Ian on stage with Pavarotti. The music extras run to around an hour.

And there’s more. Even with the main documentary running at two-and-a-half hours, some of the best anecdotes and stories were still falling to the cutting room floor. So the best of the rest got compiled into mini-docs, some of which relate to chapters in the main film, others of which form their own sections.

There is also another complete documentary: “Ian Gillan on Tour with Deep Purple”. It’s an up-close and personal film of Ian Gillan touring with Deep Purple. It’s filmed both on-stage and off, during Deep Purple’s tour in Russia and the UK. It’s filmed at the parties, on the tour bus, in the dressing rooms and on stage with Ian and the rest of the band. That tour documentary currently runs at around two hours.

The plan is to release a triple-disc edition only over the internet, a double-disc edition available at concerts and a single-disc available in shops.

Thanks to Craig Hooper and CoolHead Productions for the info.

Is there a chance for people not in possesion of a credit card to get in hold of this one?

There is still too many sellers who just won´t see how easy and (I think mostly secure) PayPal is. So if this 3 Disc Set won´t be aviable over Amazon or if the site that offers this won´t accept PayPal and Credit Card payment only, I´m afraid I have to give this one a pass. Which would be a terrible shame considering it´s content.

I’m looking foreward for this DVD-packkage. It seems to be very interesting. I hope the 3-DVD-version wil be easy to buy for foreign DP-Fans. Maybe it is possible to have foreign subtitles e. g. German., like tehe Eagle-Machine-Head-Documentary has.

In reply to the above comments…
Firstly, we’re planning to use WorldPay for Internet payments. We’ll look into PayPal also. However, it will also be possible for payment to be made by post – all details will soon be on the website once things get moving (very shortly, hopefully).
Regarding subtitles, we’re currently in the process of sorting them out. We plan to subtitle the documentary in as many major languages as we can fit on the DVD.
    Kind Regards,

I am really waiting for this. The dual disc is very cool. Indeed his best album in years (vocally speakig.) Pity the audio quality (stereo). The 5.1 audio is quite good though. Thumbs up !!!

Congratulations to all involved. Hope to be able to order the 3-dvd as soon as possible. It promises to be a real treat for a real fan.
