Awesome….even the houseband is O.K.!! Was it Mike Bordin´s bulgarian twin on the drums? Did I spot a receeding hairline on Glenn………horror! Can´t imagine a bald Glenn Hughes in my worst nightmares….If so,please Glenn, get a hair transplant! Looking forward Glenns next visit to Copenhagen and the new album!!

Fantastic performance from Glenn Hughes. The house band was very, very strong–obviously familiar with the catalogue and probably even fans. The guitarist and drummer were particularly powerful.

Glenn has been on fire since the early 90’s and has been one of the most prolific and hard working of the current and ex DP members. He is very good at performing old Deep Purple numbers with which he has been associated–“Burn,” “Mistreated,” “Lady Double Dealer,” “Stormbringer,” “Gettin’ Tighter” and others, both live and re-recorded. These are songs that Purple won’t do.

    Seven-47 says:

It’s a shame that Deep Purple Mark III doesn’t reunite. I would love to see some of the “other” classics performed live!

    Karl-Heinz says:

A very good version, very heavy and VERY emotional.
    A talented band also.

Glenn at his best. He’s still a fantastic high voice!

Would love to have it in DVD-Quality with the interview…

Receding hair line…. well the guy is over fifty for christ sake!!
    Give him a F-ng break…

Really, really good!!! GH is a hard worker and I admire him tremendously for that. The backup band was quite good too, I would surely go to see his show if he would ever play the Midwest in US (unlikely). What other band (DP) has got such a diverse and still performing family tree.

    Sami says:

It’s wonderful that Glenn keeps the mk3/mk4-repertoire alive in his shows…
his renditions of those classic songs are fantastic, but still he’s moving on
with his new releases(which are quality & passionate records, by the way!).
Coverdales versions of Burn and Stormbringer are tasteless and boring
(same as his ‘Whitesnake’ since 1987), so it’s up to GH to raise the roof with
his stunning performances, ’cause DC and even Purple nowadays are trading
in the nostalgia-circuit. Coverdale & band playing his ridiculous big hair-songs mostly and Purple touring oldies but goodies, sorry, Rapture of The Deep, it seems that even the mentioned impossible Mk3 re-union is a breath of fresh air…I for one
would love to see David, Glenn, Jon Lord & Ritchie do something together, I think
it would blow everything & everyone away!!

    Douglas JW says:

well, if Sabbath can do a one-off as a “Heaven and Hell” touring outfit of the willing and able, why not mk3, with a guest drummer (could hardly expect IP to do it in all fairness) touring as say “Burn” or “Stormbringer” – last one would be a great name for a rock band!

  12. 12
    stoffer says:

just dreaming….. but what about Rondinelli or Burgi on drums calling themselves Soldiers Of Fortune playing their some of their own material but mostly DP MKIII and opening up for DP!!! like I said just daydreaming.

  13. 13
    stefan says:

    Dear Micke!

Just kidding! Even if Glenn was going bald,I still would love the man and his music! All I ment was that if I were in his position I would do an “Elton John” and get myself a hair transplant! I´m in my forties myself and fortunately still have thick hairdo……but you never know…hair today, gone tomorrow!!

  14. 14
    T says:

Douglas JW has the right idea…and stoffer. Man, if only… Glenn is the only one who would definitely do it.

  15. 15
    Purpoz says:

Stoffer, even for a daydream your comment is way out there! The notion that Blackmore would open for DP on this planet is difficult for this human brain to contemplate…

  16. 16
    AndreA says:

GH is great, the song remains immortal and the guitarist on video is very cool…good playing. we have coverdale,we have GH we could have jon lord…we need another drummer for getting 2 deep purple bands for only one live stage! 😀

  17. 17
    Ramshacked Man says:

WOW!!!!! Absolutely STUNNING performance!!! What more can I say ? GH is truly a living legend.

    purplepriest1965 says:

Glenn Hughes has been wonderful and amazing since I first saw him LIVE in 1993 on a Open Air Festival In Holland, for free that was…………Vlietpop in Leidschendam…..
Great then hearing all that mark 3 and 4 classics LIVE for the very first time……………
What I also remember that he , supposed Christian, behaved rather foulmouthed. Something I do not mind but it was kinda, erm, confusing………..

  19. 19
    RioBORG says:

How can I save the video?

    Morten Overgaard says:

To all of you, I have absolutely no understading for all your praise for GH. It’s boring, he spends extremely long time running up and down scales with no purpose and without being able to keep the tone. THE MAN SUCKS. I myself would love to see David Coverdale back with DP, but why? Ian Gillan is perfoming absolutely at the max these days. Off course it would be fun to hear som of the Mrk 3 material performed live but GH trying to pull it off alone is just awfull. He had his moments on the mrk. 3 records but lets be serious David was the singer and GH should gave stucked to palying his bass…………

    mike whiteley says:

Glenn’s funky soul vocals, whoops and shrieks had no place in Purple’s music, then or now.
A legend ?? Remember, GH put Georgia On My Mind into Smoke On The Water.Neither legendary song deserved that.

  22. 22
    T says:

You’re talking about something over 30 years old!

While I agree Glenn got carried away with the “whoops and shrieks” as a youngster, I wonder how many recent Glenn Hughes albums you are familiar with. This same suggestion goes for those people who constantly degrade Blackmore’s Night.

These Hughes albums are STRONG–some stronger than DP of late and certainly more numerous and consistent.

I recommend the album Glenn did for the L.A. Blues Authority, “Addiction,” “Soul Mover” and to show what he can do live, “Burning Japan Live.”

If after that the naysayers still say Hughes is not a legend, then okay…he’s not a legend.

I wholeheartedly agree Glenn’s vocal style back in the day was incongruous to live Purple. Having said that, had he sung then the way he does now, he would have been a better choice than David Coverdale. Compare the vocals on “Sail Away.”

    Today, it’s a different story.

  23. 23
    Sami says:

Right on, T! You nailed it again.
    Cheers, Sami

  24. 24
    mike whiteley says:

In my opinion,Glenn got carried away with the whoops and shrieks on this Mistreated clip as well.
I own LA Blues Authority,Burning Japan Live & From Now On.
    To each his own…..

  25. 25
    Stefan says:

    Dear Mr.Overgaard!

Clearly you´re an ignorant musically! If you compare the vocalists past and present in DP, you´ll find out the truth! Go purely on depth, range, resonans and technique and no one can deny that Glenn is superior to both Ian and David! Don´t get me wrong…I love `em all…but Ian´s lost the majority of a once powerfull voice and is to put it kindly…stale…and David…well…still great and have his moments, but not as consistent as he once used to be! The truth is that Glenn´s the only one who´s still developing and progressing vocally!!

  26. 26
    Seven-47 says:

Well said Stefan! Did you ever hear his vocals on George Lynch’s “Sacred Groove”?

  27. 27
    purplepriest1965 says:

Although I love to praise Glenn for all the great things he did, espescially since 93(HE DID!!!!)………I must also state that(indeed)he still likes to go too much into…ahem, things we did not like in 73………
That’s a shame, because lots of FUCKING AWESOME MUSIC of the man gets very hard topo listen too because of that reason.
Apart from that, he ‘s easily the champion of all the Purples since 93. Sorry Ritchie…………Im gald you are happy with, you know who, but…………
    IT,S SO BORINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Goodnight to ya all……….

  28. 28
    stefan says:

Yes indeed I have Seven-47….I think I´ve heard most of GH´s music…everything from demos, bootlegs, official and unofficial releases…and the man has`nt disappointed me yet!

  29. 29
    T says:

Yes, Stefan, I agree. I’m not hearing the “whoops and shrieks” on those albums. You certainly don’t get it on “Fused” or “Seventh Star” or “Addiction” etc., etc., etc.

Certainly Hughes is not everyone’s cup of tea–but that does not detract from his greatness. I’ve never cared a great deal for Mozart, for example, but I wouldn’t presume to deny his genius.

Hughes has been the most consistent and prolific of all the Purple family in the last 15 years or so.

  30. 30
    Seven-47 says:

    I agree T!

  31. 31
    stoffer says:

After reading all of the comments about GH I have to agree that he is still an awesome singer. While I do not have much of his solo material I have heard bits and pieces and can hear he is growing as a singer. The whoops and shrieks ruined many a live song in my opinion and could have been avoided, but some of my favorite obscure tunes of DP are Hold On, Holy Man, Sail Away, The Gypsy and Whats Going On Here, these have a heavy influence of GH. I don’t know if Hughes has been the most prolific of the DP family but he has probably worked the hardest to get where he is and deserves respect for that. I also enjoy his music with Trapeze very much.
