Deep Purple Made in Japan 2025 Packshot 10LP

If you felt that you don’t own enough copies of Made in Japan or appropriately branded socks, your prayers have been answered. There will be another super deluxe reissue of the iconic live album, this time remixed by Steven Wilson (original stereo album and Dolby Atmos) and Richard Digby Smith (the 3 shows). It will be available as 5CD+Blu-ray and 10LP box sets.

The Steven Wilson remix of the original stereo album may or may not actually be a new one. This is what he said back in 2017:

There are a lot of things I’ve done that have gotten shelved. I mean, Deep Purple’s Made in Japan (1973) — I did that years ago, and it never came out.

Let’s see what is coming out now.

Official promo blurb:

NEW STEREO AND ATMOS MIXES BY STEVEN WILSON, PLUS NEWLY REMIXED VERSIONS OF ALL THREE JAPAN CONCERTS
EXCLUSIVE VINYL EDITION INCLUDES ALL THE MUSIC ON 10LPS

On August 15, 1972, Deep Purple took the stage in Japan for the first of three shows that would give rise to one of rock’s most celebrated live albums, MADE IN JAPAN.

MADE IN JAPAN (SUPER DELUXE EDITION) features new stereo and Dolby ATMOS mixes of the original by acclaimed producer Steven Wilson, all three concerts newly remixed by Richard Digby Smith, and several rare single edits.

Singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, bassist Roger Glover, and drummer Ian Paice—Deep Purple’s famed Mk II lineup—turned studio staples like “Smoke On The Water,” “Highway Star,” and “Space Truckin’” into explosive live statements. “We came halfway around the world and found the audience singing every word. It was magical,” Glover recalls in the collection’s liner notes.

The band enlisted engineer Martin Birch — who had worked on several of their best-known studio albums — to record the shows to eight-track tape at Festival Hall in Osaka and the Budokan in Tokyo. The performances on MADE IN JAPAN (SUPER DELUXE EDITION) capture Deep Purple at full throttle, powering through songs from their then-new album Machine Head, along with fan favorites like “Child In Time,” “Strange Kind Of Woman,” and “Speed King.” The collection also includes rare single edits, like the German version of “Black Night” and the Mexican edit of “Space Truckin’.”

The live album garnered widespread critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone declaring it “Purple’s definitive metal monster, a spark-filled execution of the typical Purple style.” This recognition led to its impressive ranking at No. 6 on their “Readers’ Poll: The 10 Best Live Albums of All Time.” AllMusic also praised the album, stating that “Deep Purple pushed its music into the kind of deliberate excess that made heavy metal what it became.” Additionally, the album achieved commercial success, landing at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Wilson harnesses the raw energy of the original tapes in his new stereo and Atmos mixes. “It’s all completely as it happened on the night,” he says. “The album has a power and sense of abandon that they never quite captured in the studio. Hopefully this new mix makes it feel even more like you’re there.”

Preorder from the official store or somewhere closer to you. The official store has a variety of bundles and assorted reissue merchandise.

It is scheduled to be released on August 15, 2025 via Universal. There’s no word at this point which label will be releasing it.

The Steve Wilson mix of the Highway Star has been posted on streaming services to whet your appetite. The track also appeared on YouTube, but we are told that availability varies by region and other supernatural phenomena.

Thanks to Nigel Young and Trond Strøm for the info.

    Matthew Burbridge says:

I think I’m going to wait to see what others think. I will buy it if it is complete and does not overlap songs (e.g. applause overlapping start of child in time) and missing the end applause and Mr Gillans chant off the end of the mule. Just niggles I know but they grind!

  2. 2
    Karin Verndal says:

    Ok!
    The returning question is:
    Do I really need this?

My bankaccount is quite clear, NO!

But my little foolish heart says: yes….. guess I can cut down on the coffee… no that won’t do! Guess I can cut down on the food…. Yeah! 😂😂

  3. 3
    Steve says:

Someone is taking the piss now !
It’s a bit over the top …I don’t think Gillan will be too happy of all this blatant ” ripping fans off ” …What next ? A remix of a remix !?

  4. 4
    David Black says:

Hmm..bought it on vinyl, then CD, then the remastered CD, original box set (poor mix) and the remixed box set. Do I need to buy it for a sixth time? No.

    Gareth says:

    The single edits are pointless

  6. 6
    Uwe Hornung says:

Mortals, I had mentioned in the past that Steven Wilson is sitting on an unreleased MiJ mix, yet you doubted me …

    The prophecy …

    MacGregor says:

Not surprised this has emerged after the Machine Head one and also because of Steven Wilson’s comments over the years. Why would a remix be left out in the cold? There will be a few punters interested no doubt, well at least one punter here in the commentary department. That collection of yours Uwe, any need of an upgrade at your abode of late? Meaning a total renovation and added building attached to the present one. Maybe you are better off going underground, some sort of hidden crypt to be found in eons to come by mistake from an Archaeological dig. Get Anton involved, oh hang, no don’t get Anton involved. He has been traumatised more than enough with being Gillanised over recent times. The way things are going, it will Edith or the cd collection by the sound of it. Me thinks Edith will win………or perhaps not, he he he. Cheers.

  8. 8
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Given that

    – the Martin Pullan REMIXES of the three individual dates in the boxed set,

    – the Martin Pullan REMASTER of the original double album

    – the Kevin Shirley REMIX of same

were all avalanched on the market in 2014, i.e. more than a decade ago,

    and that

    – the Kevin Shirley REMIX of the original double album is meanwhile hard to get and

    – so is the boxed set with the Martin Pullan remixes,

I can’t get worked up in a negative way about “yet another remix round”. Some will buy it, others won’t. Audio remastering and remixing technology develops in leaps and bounds, you will hear a difference.

Bring it on then! I can think of DP 70s albums that are more needy of a remix (i.e. The Concerto, In Rock and Fireball), but MIJ is a consistent seller, it went platinum in Germany (and was #1 for several weeks) with 500.000 sold, that is pretty stellar for a double live album (sales in all other European countries were only around the 100.000 mark individually or less, only the US sales in the much larger market there were higher with one million).

  9. 9
    Juri says:

Hmmm, however, it was Digby-Smith who remixed to the very mediocre sounding “Live at Last” recording which was included in Black Sabbath’s Vol 4 Super Deulxe Box Set. That made an enormous difference on that occasion. But thaisis not the same is it? Remixing an inferior production is fine, laudable even, but what is the object here? Apart from the financial one that is.

  10. 10
    Mark Guscin says:

No way. For the next reissue of this album, if someone actually sees the sense in having the 3 complete concerts in the original running order, even if this means 2 CDs per concert, then I would go for it. I mean, CD5 in this set is a bit silly.

  11. 11
    KevS says:

    Milking it!!
I bought the last one, which was sold as the final, definitive ever ever ever.

If I somehow win a free copy then I will get it. ):

    timmi bottoms says:

I will buy just as long is not a million dollars.

  14. 14
    David Black says:

@6 Is that your God complex again 🤣 it shows how the passage of time accelerates as we get older. Can’t believe the Shirley/Pullen set was 10 years ago! To my mind that fixed all the issues with the previous 1993 box set. That said if it makes the greatest album of all time available to newbie’s to the mighty Purple then it’s all good- but I won’t be buying it!

  15. 15
    Uwe Hornung says:

You know what? As long as they keep on repackaging, reissuing und rewhatever the historic product of our heroes, then that is a good thing. I prefer it infinitely to permanent deletion from the catalog. It’s preserving DP as a cultural artifact from a time when dinosaur rock (of which DP were progenitors, no point denying it) ruled the Earth. I don’t care if someone makes a buck off it, I live in permanent fear of physical media for music being ended altogether. And releases like these here are certainly more aimed at glistening discs and vinyl collectors than streamers.

And I’m not even the greatest MiJ fan (anymore), it’s the one Purple album I have perhaps “heard to death” a little, maybe because for a time it was the only live product DP had before they started releasing all the other live offerings post-split. The performances on MiJ can of course not be faulted, as a band they were at a peak in tightness and professionalism plus that extra-ingredient of elated frenzy playing for the first time in a for them exotic location like Japan.

The new remix will at least “force” me to revisit it once again! 🤗

  16. 16
    AndreA says:

    I don’t need it.

  17. 17
    George Martin says:

I don’t really see the need to buy this. After all doesn’t everyone have several versions of Made In Japan by now? If they included a live recording of a show from a few weeks before this or after this that had never been release before then I would be on board. This really doesn’t offer anything we all don’t already have.

  18. 18
    Jet Auto Jerry says:

Just listening on the crappy ‘puter speakers at work, but the Drums seem snappier. And the Bass jumps out, sometimes too much me thinks.

At what point can things get mixed too clearly, Especially on a live album?

  19. 19
    Gary Poronovich says:

Maybe I missed something in the ” excitement” of yet another remix of this fantastic album but why are there 2 “Black Night” versions from CD 5 Live At Budokan, one being 4:57 and the other being 9:57? I confess to buying the previous box remix best ever version of MIJ but it only have 3 Black Nights – does that mean I have to buy this new one to complete the collection until the next one comes out?
By the way, where can I get those MIJ socks?

  20. 20
    Allen says:

Just having a listen to the link via Spotify through my Bluetooth speaker at a reasonably loud volume.

I’m not sure if it’s my ears, the device, Spotify or what, but the drums and Bass sound too high in the sound mix, while Guitar seems a tad buried. Slightly reminiscent of the last few Metallica albums, with drums mixed on the high side.

I may have to listen again a few times before making a decision to part with my hard earned moolah.

By the way, re- Uwe, was that you posting on the Status Quo forum very recently, regarding the new Live! Box set? I take it you’re very impressed?

  21. 21
    Jet Auto Jerry says:

Re #13: There are (I think) 3 “Single Edits” included in this set. I think that I read that on the official DP Site.

  22. 22
    Uwe Hornung says:

“And the bass jumps out, sometimes too much me thinks.”

There is no such concept, Jerry. Perish the thought. 😎 There are only two stages of bass loudness: “just enough” and “even better”, trust me.

  23. 23
    AndreA says:

it’s true. with a simple smartphone I could feel the bass pumping hard… but I don’t want to get used to it.. no thanks

  24. 24
    Jet Auto Jerry says:

Whoops, I meant Re # 19 for Gary on the Single Edit comment.

And I know where you are coming from Uwe. I am one of those guys yelling “More Bass” at shows, because they normally need it! But sometimes, isn’t it possible to just have too much of a good thing? (He asked, already guessing what the answer will be……)

  25. 25
    MacGregor says:

@ 15 -Uwe’s PR for the record company, classic. How much Uwe, come on, a little commission surely, he he he. That is what this is all about. 10 % or even less? Fan adoration, heroes, it’s all there folks.
“Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, so glad you could attend, come inside come inside. There behind a glass stands a real blade of grass, be careful as you pass Move along! Move along!
Come inside, the show’s about to start
Guaranteed to blow your head apart
Rest assured you’ll get your money’s worth
The greatest show in Heaven, Hell, or Earth

    [Chorus]
You’ve got to see the show, it’s a dynamo
You’ve got to see the show, it’s rock and roll

  26. 26
    Uwe Hornung says:

“By the way, re- Uwe, was that you posting on the Status Quo forum very recently, regarding the new Live! Box set? I take it you’re very impressed?“

Guilty as charged, Allen, the ‘Uwe’ there and the ‘Uwe Hornung’ here are one and the same guy. Yeah, LIVE! is to Quonuts what MIJ is to Purpleristas, the effing holy grail. I like the remix and the fact that they have now released all three nights. If that sounds faintly familiar, I wouldn’t even be surprised if Quo took that from the MIJ rule book, you know play three nights with the exact same set in short order and pick the best renditions for a live double album.

To the chagrin of Francis Rossi, both Alan Lancaster and Rick Parfitt watched very closely what DP were doing in the first half of the 70s and carried over ideas and inspiration. Maybe they thought it would be cool for Quo to have their own MIJ – raw with no post-gig clean-ups in the studio. Rossi would scoff at that in later decades, saying it was a silly thing NOT to do as, according to him “everybody else did it too”, he winces at the occasional bum notes on LIVE! But then he didn’t share Rick’s and Alan’s enthusiasm for DP, who even went to see them live at one point. Rossi doesn’t really like heavy rock or metal, there was always tension about that in Quo, with Lancaster and Parfitt pulling the other way.

Is it Gillan who vetoes the releases of MK 3 concerts?

  28. 28

Re the bass being too violent – maybe everything falls into place when it’s played in a proper stereo?!

  29. 29

I didn’t know I would need this. Until yesterday. Watch Phil Ashton and Now Spinning magazine on the new remix, and you will get convinced. I did and I got.

Yes, Uncle Phil with his lovely children’s show moderator voice is already at it, kiddies!

I know that populist record company bashing is en vogue and that some people seem to (re)discover their anti-capitalist leanings whenever a new fancy DP product is released, thank you Herr MacGregor. You won’t hear me chiming in on this, I adore capitalism’s ability to stamp new product out of the ground (we can discuss improvement of distribution of wealth some other time), for the last 50 years I have bought every officially available DP product gratefully, I’ll stop when my cold dead hands won’t allow me to press “BUY” anymore. I’m an unabashed DP & Family consumer, stone me.

If anything, I regret that they are not bringing out more stuff like this. Forgive me for preferring a MIJ with nano-0ptimized and upgraded sound to the low-fi charms of another GILLAN release, I’m from Germany, we like it when things work well.

  31. 31
    Uwe Hornung says:

No one seems to notice that Ian’s voice is louder on the new mix and more to the foreground, Edith (and Karin!) will be thoroughly pleased. I will hear no more “Why isn’t his voice louder?” when I put this on rotation at home. 😂

  32. 32
    Uwe Hornung says:

Henrik @27: Why should IG give a rat’s ass about that one way or another? I rule out that he even has a say, but if he did, he certainly wouldn’t use it to veto anything. He sees Mk III as something remote, but inherently irrelevant for the “living breathing DP” and it is: availability of Mk III product has no impact on Mk IX’ business operations and media status.

I believe that record companies have let Mk III product fall a little by the wayside because the whole Mk III era is not regarded as commercially viable as material featuring Mk II members – you could say that over the decades and through sheer persistence Ian Gillan has finally asserted lasting supremacy.

And one other thing is that Simon Robinson is no longer a driving force for releases of vintage Purple Family material – he had a very catholic approach and no Mk II bias, that benefited a general release policy that also took a look at the more exotic regions of the Purple Universe.

But I would like to see those gigs released too – remixed, in complete fashion and in a worthy box (yes, Herr MacGregor, the record company just instructed me to write this, I will get a percentage cut from the sales as I always do … 💰💵💸🤑).

Having listened to it again: Jon and Ritchie are still “the wrong way around” … (i.e. as they were on the original MIJ, but not how you saw them on stage, i.e. Jon left and Ritchie right), but you do get a lot more pick noise from Roger’s Ric, brilliant! Es schmatzt göttlich gegen die Saiten …

But do not despair, you can always turn your headphones or earbuds the wrong way too … two wrongs can make a right sometimes. 🤣

PS: Roger has fans from council estates in West Bromwich …

    QUOTE

“I was always a big Deep Purple fan – I loved all those original albums and listened to them a lot. I remember sitting in Ken’s [K.K. Downing’s] flat, listening to Deep Purple In Rock, and being blown away. I was always incredibly impressed with Roger’s bass work, and it was influential to me.”

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. I ran into him recently after not seeing him for a while; catching up with him was incredible. Roger is a true icon, and Deep Purple are incredible.”

    Uwe Hornung says:

I’ve always held that there is something Purplish in Priest – it’s no coincidence that their music so immediately appealed to me when I first heard Sin After Sin in 1977, one year after the Purple split. The first song I heard of them – standing with headphones in a department store (QUELLE in Darmstadt) with a music section – was this here:

    https://youtu.be/W5Opvi_UHLY

A few seconds into the track it reminded me of a riff that could have featured on In Rock, there were parallels to Flight Of The Rat (my favorite track on In Rock next to the ubiquitous CIT). Of course the Martin Birch-inspired Roger Glover production triggered all kinds of fuzzy-warm feelings too, I was immediately smitten. The way Simon Philipps played the drums echoed Little Ian as well, those were obviously not John Bonham type drums.

And I wasn’t alone, early Judas Priest had automatically applied the “Deep Purple resurrected – sans Jon Lord”-stamp to them by German critics. Or, in a pun on In Rock, “Deep Purple in Leder” once they had raided a few gay shops for their new sartorial image. 😂

Remixing the Remix ?! Come on!

The original double vinyl version is a masterpiece.

…the first taste of this insanely rough, enjoyable and powerful playing by the Mark II for me was the 24 Carat Purple compilation album. I purchased that album in 1981. That´s when I moved on to other kind of music from listening to Stray Cats (marvellous band, also). I just don´t remember what´s the running time for its´version of Black Night, but what a version ! And if I´m right, that originally was only available on a single?

And, at some point in later years I did get the chance to purchase the 1993 box of all the original three concerts. What a joy that was, too. And is still today, of course.

The socks? A taste of that Ritchie-like british, dark humour, I guess.

    : )

    Uwe Hornung says:

Why should there be a finality with any particular mix of MIJ? That is like saying an exhibition of the works of a certain artist is a final one and that there shall never be another one curating his work differently or throwing another light on his oeuvre. Any museum making such a claim would be regarded as presumptuous.

Every new remaster and remix throws a new light on DP‘s original core work – five guys making a hell of a racket. I find that interesting every time anew. And remaster and remixing technology keeps developing, back in 1993 we were all happy about the three CD version of Live In Japan, but if you listen to it today that same mix is hilariously drum-heavy, so much it sounds like a demonstration record by Ludwig drums.

    …………………………………………..

Hiza, this forum is full of experts and a lot of people know more than me about certain areas of DP‘s history. I‘ve just been doing it for a while (since 1975) and – correct me if I‘m wrong – my interest in the band as a musical phenomenon is perhaps a bit more encompassing and historical-dots -connecting than of most other DP enthusiasts, especially as regards what DP members did BEFORE they joined the band. There are a lot of people here who have never heard a Trapeze album in their life (and never will) because Glenn Hughes‘ bass playing is frankly Irrelevant to them or even a source of irritation to the extent it dares stray from what Roger did before.

I don‘t have a single line-up that eclipses all others for me, sure, Mk II is the most significant line-up in terms of establishing a template and also the one where DP was most locked in with the Zeitgeist (Mk III was a mid 70s stadium rock behemoth, but not really culturally cutting edge anymore), but I love Come Taste The Band and do not consider Slaves & Masters a musical catastrophy though Joe Lynn Turner‘s voice doesn’t grab me like IG‘s, DC‘s, GH‘s, Graham Bonnet‘s or Rob Halford‘s.

If you asked me which ex- or current DP member I would like to have dinner with, I‘d probably say Tommy Bolin (he would certainly be the one I would look forward to jamming with the most, along with Little Ian) though Tommy wasn‘t really very good (or often too stoned) to talk about his music in a meaningful way. He saw the world with a childlike wonder, that was both his charm and his downfall. That right there – having Tommy Bolin for dinner – disqualifies me as a “serious“DP fan in the eyes of many people here. 🤣

My history of DP would likely be a rather thick, ungainly coffee table book with all its Peter Frame rock family tree references and also contain quite a few heretical views and statements anathema to conventional Purple wisdom. And I‘m sure I‘d make as many factual mistakes as other well-intentioned DP biographers.

    But thanks!

Finally, some common sense in all this from Uwe, and that is coming from a bass guitarist. Still, at least he is in touch with the engine room, sort of. Regarding ‘having dinner’ with Tommy Bolin. As you said Uwe, that would depend on how out of it he was at the time. Some drugs give people the munchies, others the exact opposite can apply. Also the level of communication and the topic would vary no doubt, it might be you doing all the talking. Hang on, something very similar is going on here, he he he……………sorry old son, as always, I just couldn’t resist! Cheers.

    of things I’m comparing

    – Martin Pullan’s 2014 REMASTER with

    – the 2014 Deluxe REMIX of MIJ by the so often here unjustly derided Kevin Shirley:

    – There is nothing wrong with the Martin Pullan Remaster, it sounds like a glossed up version of what we all know and love from the vinyl days. Does what it say on the tin, an excellent remaster. It was always a good-sounding album, even though only eight-track, especially given how it is live and undoctored plus comes from two different venues and three different nights.

    – The Kevin Shirley Remix sounds surprisingly “more live” than the original stereo mix: It is grittier, more massive (sub-lows!) everything – voice AND instruments – is more direct and immediate. Part of that has to do with the use of compression of course: While Kevin is often attacked as a brutal “brickwaller” he stands by his view that a certain amount of compression, if used in the correct way, benefits heavier music. I tend to agree with him. This MIJ version rumbles out of your speakers, baby!

IG’s voice sounds a lot more intimate on the Remix, Karin, you should really get that two CD Deluxe Edition from 2014 which is the only format that features the Kevin Shirley Remix. And is not that easy to get anymore.

I wonder how the Steven Wilson Remix will sound on a proper stereo – he’s no fan of wide panning (I am), so will we end up with Jon and Ritchie warring for supremacy in the middle rather than being positioned left and right (or right and left) in the sonic picture? 😁

  60. 60
    Svante Axbacke says:

Judging from the YT clip, Wilson has panned RB and JL as on the original. Wilson’s approach to these remixes is usually to recreate the orginal mixaes but with modern technology.

A funny story I heard in an interview with SW was when he remixed an old Jethro Tull album and realised that the tape machine used for the stereo master was broken in some way. It was too fast or too slow or something. He started fixing this but then realised he couldn’t destroy the feeling of the original that everyone was used to after listening to the album for 40 odd years. 🙂

  61. 61
    Svante Axbacke says:

I got the details mixed up regarding SW and JT. Here is the quote I was thinking about:

“Honestly, to me, bearing in mind I don’t know a lot about analogue tape, it sounds like the original was mixed on to a faulty machine or a machine that wasn’t lined up properly. And it’s always sounded a bit like that: very muffled and hissy. I was able to fix that, because the source multitrack tapes sounded beautiful. The remix has clarity missing from the original, it sounds beautiful, and to some it’s the definitive mix now. But understandably, other people would probably still rather hear the original analogue mix with all its flaws. I accept that. That’s not something that can ever be reconciled with a remix project, which is why I always try to encourage the record company to include both the original and the remix on a reissue set, as two different experiences.”

    “Who controls those?”

In whatever basket the original EMI/Warner Bros rights to the 70s catalog of Purple ended up. RHINO belongs to WARNER MUSIC and was also responsible for the Machine Head remix whose success no doubt spawned the reworking of MIJ too.

guys, all I was suggesting was that if there isn’t any room left on the bedroom walls for posters, what about the ceiling? Now that has been turned into some sort of erotic cabaret. But no, we haven’t anything artistic there!

And what do I usually do whenever the debates in here turn away from the innocent path we enjoy to walk by? ‘Smile and nod, smile and nod’ (if I don’t behave here, with all the double entendres I meet on a daily basis, I will soon end up being a headbanger with more power in my neck, than a young Ian when Purple performed ‘Lucille’….)

  80. 80
    Uwe Hornung says:

“Anton is safe, thank you so much for your kind compassion for an innocent little doglet.”

I have a faint memory that in bygone centuries small “doglets” owned by the ladies of high society were regarded as anything BUT “innocent”. There even was a term for them: “Schoßhund”, “Lusthund” and even, more robustly, “Punzenlecker”.

Poetry was written about them, if I may quote the great Gotthold Ephraim Lessing who committed to paper in the mid 18th century:

“Dein Hündchen, Dorilis, ist zärtlich, tändelnd, rein.
Daß du es also leckst, soll das mich wundern? Nein.
    Allein dein Hündchen lecket dich,
    Das wundert mich.”

The English, always a bit late in catching on, needed until 1800 for Samuel Taylor Coleridge

    https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/91/SamuelTaylorColeridge.jpg/1200px-SamuelTaylorColeridge.jpg

    to likewise observe:

“Thy lapdog, Rufa, is a dainty beast,
It don’t surprise me in the least.
To see thee lick so dainty clean a beast.
But that so dainty clean a beast licks thee,
    Yes — that surprises me.”

As I said, innocence is overrated and not really a natural occurrence.

I hasten to add: Such practices were unheard of in the Kingdom of Denmark at all times.

Max, my brethren vom Land der Dichter und Denker, don’t you think I deserve accolades for being the first to contribute a Lessing poem on these sacred pages?

@ 87 – talking of Boris Karloff and that era Uwe, I finally watched the recent Nosferatu movie. I quite liked it, it wasn’t over the top, good acting and the only naff bit was the ending. (Spoiler alert ahead) for any Nosferatu geeks out there. As in a silly gore horror attempt when he started to DIE! They managed to get that far into the movie and it seems like they just HAD to do it. Anyway, apart from commencing in Germany, why? It was in England wasn’t it, in the original Bram Stoker story. Artistic licence no doubt. Otherwise all good. Cheers.

“Her (the original) version of that song is light years ahead of what “He Whose Name Shall Not Be Mentioned” did a few years later.”

You may use his acronym though: BT for butter tenor, a Danish invective hurled at him by parts of the more rural local population there. Savages really.

Speaking of: St Ian wasn’t the only DP croaker who copied Elvis, listen here:

Moving on, from Tennessee to Transylvania …

Herr MacGregor, staging Noseferatu in an imaginary town in Germany does raise some serious plot incredulities: Why would you need to travel per ship over oceans to get from Transylvania, Romania, to a German harbor town? By coach, train or via shipping on rivers (or a combination of all three) would have worked just fine, but getting to Germany via a land trip to the Black Sea, then to the Mediterranean, from there to the Atlantic and then to the North Sea seems unduly complicated, especially for a several centuries old Vampyr who is well-read. Or perhaps the Count just liked to be nauseous from seasickness?!

  103. 103
    Karin Verndal says:

    “Savages really.”

    – but I really appreciate Frank Sinatra!

But thank you both for the interesting suggestion!

May have hoped Ian had made a song about that very wall and one of you knew (well who am I kidding? BOTH of you knew…☺️😉😉)

P.s. Max, do you by chance play the bass? (Like you-know-who…)

  111. 111
    Tillythemax says:

@104 Question is: How come Iron Maiden never made one? Might be the only topic of war with british paticipation to which Steve Harris never wrote an 11-minute track which has no chorus but 5 changes in tempo

    Karin Verndal says:

    @111

Well, they made “the Writing on the Wall’, but that was a completely different wall, and many years earlier ☺️

    Karin Verndal says:

    @109

    MacGregor, AI says:

“There’s no known Led Zeppelin song specifically about Hadrian’s Wall. However, Led Zeppelin’s music often references historical and mythological themes, and they have a song titled “Immigrant Song” that draws inspiration from Norse mythology. “The Battle of Evermore” also uses imagery from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. While these songs don’t directly mention Hadrian’s Wall, they demonstrate the band’s interest in historical and fantastical settings, which could extend to other periods and places, including Roman Britain. “

Maybe we ought to dwell into LZ?!

(Psst but for our own sakes in another forum 😉)

Ah, forget that of course in case you havn’t already and keep up the nordic humor here. Very much appreciated in the home of the nerds.
And no, I do not play the bass. But I think it’s underrated. Or as Todd Snider knows: You can try and sing lead if you wanna be a star
But the butts are all shaking to the bass guitar…

  116. 116
    MacGregor says:

@ 113- Karin, who is AI? I don’t think I have had the pleasure as yet. Cheers.

  117. 117
    MacGregor says:

@ 113 -yes Karin the Led Zeppelin link to those songs, Uwe loves all that. Maybe we should set up a LZ forum just for him, he he he. Especially the Tolkien stories, he simply cannot get enough of all that. In regards to the BCC song ‘Hadrian’s Wall’, it was a surprise and a good one to hear Joe Bonamassa singing that. Cheers.

  118. 118
    Karin Verndal says:

    @115

Arrhh too bad! I would have loved the two of you being twins, you know: double the fun – double the mayhem ☺️😉 (and normally double the cleaning, but that is NOT my problem 😄)

In my lunch break, I get a lovely cup of coffee, get in here, and have a giggle (often I LOL 😂) (sometimes Anton looks at me worrying..)
And between you, there is this, ahhh je n’ai sais quois – mais peut etre einen verrückter Humor, auf eine süße Art ☺️🤗

Ok no bass playing to you!

Could I choose freely I would love to play the piano!
But when I was a kid in school, my music teacher found me so awful that the only ‘instrument’ I got to play, was two wooden sticks I should bang together, and keep some kind of rythm. A lot of times she just sighed and made me get water and snacks for my friends in class 😝😄 (my self esteem dropped to seriously low standards 😧)

But never mind, it’s also neat to be able to enjoy the music without thinking: ‘ohh that was a bum note’! Or ‘ohh I could do that better’ – I simply enjoy most music, and most singers (well, except ‘you-know-who)
BTW: found a very interesting statement from our very own Ian Gillan, let me see if I can memorise it:

“And I tell them we were influenced by Chopin, Beethoven, Howlin’ Wolf, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Lonnie Donegan, folk music, big band, swing and Buddy Rich.
I say that and I see their faces change, and they say: “Well, what does that have to do with hard rock?” “Well, those are the roots of Deep Purple”

    – this is VERY interesting!
First of all that some butter-tenor is NOT mentioned at all!
Some might say, “Well Purple were influenced by Bach, and he isn’t mentioned either” – yeah! But I have read in here about that colossal influence Elvis APPARENTLY had on at least Ian G, so it is rather peculiar he isn’t mentioning the American crooner, at all!!!

I guess this proves, once and for all, that yes, Ian might have liked Elvis a little bit, but as I read in his WORLD-FAMOUS autobiography, he lost all interest in EP in the mid-50s!

I finally wash my hands in this matter! And I certainly expect tons of excuses from you and your twin Uwe!
I would also like some bowing to the ground where the both of you sing:
(Choose your own key, since I don’t know any of your voices)
“Karin is the greatest interpreter of Ian Gillan, La La La La La …..”
    Over and over again 😁

All it said was that I’m a very big fan of Purple, and love Ian’s lyrics…
Not a word about my work, my other interests etc… AI didn’t even know about Anton,😝 not even a single word about me being a very nice coffee maker! So very disappointed….

    Artificial intelligence, my a..

Hmm, I really would like to find another ‘new home’ (like this) to go into detail regarding LED Zeppelin! 😄

  121. 121
    MacGregor says:

@ 119 – “Tried to put my name in the AI-‘machine’ and that was ‘fun’!” What happened then Karin………………did it reject you or accept you, the mind boggles. Cue Robert Calvert ‘my android replica is playing up again and it’s no joke’………………are we in for more Gillanism from an android…………….Oh no…………………….surely not! Seriously, I wouldn’t put my name in there, not my real name at least. Although as we are aware, ‘Big Brother’ probably already has it and some……….Welcome to the Machine. Cheers.

  122. 122
    MacGregor says:

@ 120 – Oh yes Karin, I am completely sure of Uwe’s fascination for Tolkien and his son’s favourite band. It is all written here at THS for anyone to peruse through, the passion, the dedication and the desire to go where no man has ever gone………middle earth. If there was ever someone who was steeped in Led Zeppelin lore it is Uwe. Why do you think his son became a Led Zeppelin geek, his father’s influence, surely. Anyway, we had better be careful, we don’t want to incur the Wrath of Uwe, do we. Oh and talking of spells, I have succumb to your’s Karin, through your medium Steve. I have ordered the Gillan deluxe box set………………shock horror! I tried to resist but you know how spells are, they can eventually find there way in through the armour of resistance. I would have to include Uwe in that Gillanism Gillanuniverse too, he has been rather persistent over the years, but in a good way. All Hail Gillan. Cheers.

    – awww please do! And reveal for us in here what it says 😄

    @122

“Why do you think his son became a Led Zeppelin geek, his father’s influence, surely.”

    – well, normally, or at least that’s what I’m told (have no kids myself) sons never let themselves be influenced by their fathers!
But maybe Uwe does possess some mythic powers we haven’t discovered yet!

That could also explain his voluminous knowledge and abilities (think of the new cursive he masters to perfection 😃) and not to mention that he never gets tired of explaining things to this dumb blond (for which I’m forever grateful! I really am Uwe ☺️)

MacGregor, are you by any chance on FaceBook?
I’m asking because, well, I am, and daily I’m inundated with requests from ‘Ian Gillans’! And that is very, well, not important really, but I have asked the Meta people to stop them. But every single time they answer that those impersonating Ian doesn’t do anything wrong!
If I was the CEO of Meta, I would hit hard on that 😄

I have this Mac computer locked down like Fort Knox, the Vatican and The Kremlin. I am definitely not a ‘Bot’ or an Ian Gillan impersonator. Truth be told, I am a Led Zeppelin geek who has infiltrated THS site to give people like Uwe a hard time. Oh and your good self. Cheers. P.S. Don’t tell Anton any of the above.

There are three kinds of teachers that never teach you anything in your life: music, art and PE/sports teachers. They simply gauge you when they see you for the first time like within ten seconds whether you are of any interest to them or not. And then concentrate on those they deem worthy – without exception. The thought that they might help you to appreciate and make music, acquire drawing and painting skills or show you how to dribble a basket ball doesn’t even cross their minds.

  130. 130
    MacGregor says:

@ 127- Whoah and oh no, surely Karin hasn’t hijacked the Ian Gillan Facebook site, this is of great concern for anyone on Facebook. Or is Karin AI itself, are we in further trouble than we fear? Did anyone else notice how Karin was promoting AI in her recent comments, hmmmmm. How are we going to create the penultimate android then? Or will the ultimate android be named Karin and behave accordingly? We do live in interesting and worrying times. I suppose if someone could programme the android to NOT like anything Ian Gillan related, that would work out ok. Stay tuned everyone. Cheers.

…..and almost by accident found the pages of Purple and Ian ☺️

Uhh I never suggested anyone but scammers (who wants to steal money from poor lonely ladies ( or gentlemen) to be behind the many fake profiles of Ian Gillan).
Which is also why I wonder they aren’t closed down (the profiles, not fb!)
