Whitesnake at SRF

Sweden Rock Festival has just announced Whitesnake’s appearance at the 2011 fest which will be held on June 8th to 11th on their usual grounds near Sölvesborg. The announcement certainly ain’t no stranger to hype:

…We’re mostly referring to certain very special guest performers. We won’t reveal who — let’s just say that any fan of Whitesnake will be very thrilled to see them. If you are one of them, you definitely do not want to miss this concert.

Let the speculations run wild.

Thanks to Daniel Bengtsson for the info.

Adrian. DC’s still good friend with him.

I thought Adrian had given up playing though.

well, i think they still don’t have a keyboard player 😉 although they will probably find a new one until SRF, but if not… well, there was one quite good keyboard player in that band in the 80’s 😛 ok, i got carried away a bit ;P

John Sykes. That would be something:)

AVDB,who else? don’t expect to see Bernie Marsden,Micky Moody etc.

Not that I have any thought of attending this show (live in US, not made of $$), but I hope they give a few more hints than this.

DC knows what his long time fans want…a reunion (of sorts) with any number of former musicians that made up the backbone of a great rock band…the further back the better. Let’s see Bernie or Micky walk out onstage and play a little “Walking in the Shadow of the Blues.” Maybe even Jon Lord on keys. Just a song or two is all we ask.

If he thinks that trotting Marco Mendoza or Warren DeMartini is him “embracing his band’s roots,” then he’s either delusional or holds some major grudge against the original lineup guys.

    And maybe Jon Lord

    Tom Lindström says:

Adrian is not really a big surprise, nor do I think he´s apperence will trill the fans very much. Marsden,Moody, Lord,Murray, Paice or even Sykes would. but I guess that won´t happen.

    Speed King says:

As BCC is touring at the same time in Europe, my guess is Glenn Hughes. Would be nice to have Micky Moody on stage too!

Maybe the 2nd coming of Tommy Bolin?

After all, its been told that he is half Swedish and also originally named Erickson.

“You told me that you loved me, so dont tell me no lies…..”

    Moyst says:

Well, it’s obvioulsy more than just Adrian. Can’t be John Sykes but if it’s Bernie or Micky it would be stunning!

Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

Could be almost anybody. Sykes, Vai, Lord, obviously someone whom has been in the band prior. Sure hope it is recorded for all to see and hear since it is a One Off of guest players. Hopefully they will to a Proper Tour promoting the New Album and NOT run on the shirttails of a band such as Judas Priest as with the last album.

Looking forward to that and the New Album. Except for the production, I found the last album to be GOOD. David doesn’t put his name on it unless it is……

    Cheers

#3 biz Makes a good point my vote would be Jon Lord and maybe glenn hughes. they are the only two that would create some excitement and be on speaking terms with DC and actually be available to play.

    Svante Axbacke says:

This is interesting. Glenn Hughes is a good bet since BCC are very likely to play the same festival. But he has no connection to WS… Lord and/or Marsden and/or Moody would certainly be “thrilling” to “any fan of Whitesnake” but then again, DC rarely acknowledges pre-87 WS so why should he start getting all sentimental now?

    byron says:

    Steve Vai?No thanx!

  17. 17
    Made in England says:

This is called hype. Create an intense anticipation of something great, sell loads of tickets and deliver something ordinary. I seriously doubt it will be any pre-87 Whitesnake guys. I can’t imagine any of them doing it alone without one or more of the others, Marsden with Moody, Lord with Paice and what about Murray. If anybody was a mainstay of the early Whitesnake it was Neil Murray.

    purplepriest1965 says:

    @ 15

DC is not really a sentimental man, I think that too.

    Who of them really is?

I would like to hear Glenns work he did for the 1989 album.
It was that one, wasnt it, where he added some vocals which I never was able to hear…….

    “DC rarely acknowledges pre-87”.

I suppose you mean he does a few songs but dismisses the added quality of former members?

Yes, exactly what I meant! 🙂

    Jim Sheridan says:

I heard that the surprise is that Robert Plant will replace Coverdale….

  21. 21
    Bill The Wizard Pierce says:

I would say that it will be either Adrian, or John, David and John have made their peace, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was John Sykes or Adrian Vandenburg! Really be interesting if it would turn out to be Jon Lord. I don’t see Marsden or Moody being the special guests. Since neither one of them have had anything good to say about Whitesnake in the past few years. But who knows? Will have to wait and see

Waiting for another concert in Tel Aviv.
Two years age they were so great- remember a concert in Israel- even without Lord & Pace.

  23. 23
    purplepriest1965 says:

    Glenn could be it, indeed.
In 1994 it almost happened on a festival in Germny but Glenn had to flee off for another festival gig in Leidschendam, Holland, so……..

What was intriguing is that Glenn did Highway Star in Germany but did not play it, unfortunately, overhere.

    purplepriest1965 says:

I have become aware of a NEW Thin Lizzy incarnation without John Sykes.

I ve been told he s working on a nbew album.

    GOOD FOR HIM!

Although I really enjoyed the Lizzy shows with him it also frustrated the hell out of me that they never changed the setlist.
    FOR ABOUT 10 years!!!!

Anyway, maybe he can take a break from the studio and show the people wher it all came from, the 1987 sound.

    Cheers, Mark

Any more info on who’s playing with WS in Sweden? Anyone here close to the SRF staff?
    Cheers Bjoern

    Richbitch says:

I don’t think its one of the former band member, I think it could be possible that Joey tempest or Europe comes, because I know David and joey are friends, and they did that in Italy some time ago, also it fits the Europe calendar, just what I think.
