Bernie Marsden secret Whitesnake guest at SRF?

When Whitesnake was confirmed for Sweden Rock Festival 2011 it came with the announcement that the show would feature, “certain very special guest performers”.

According to a post on the Deep Purple Fan Forum, former Whitesnake member Bernie Marsden recently announced at a show in Glasgow that he is one of the special guests and that there was a possibility of him guesting at some of the UK Whitesnake shows as well.

    Bernie is a wonderful man.

I understood that he wants to release several old Whitesnake stuff but is stopped by DC.

    Cant understand that at all.

Now I have to resort to bootlegs.

If DC tried he could put a lot of that material out in good quality and so on.

Great to again have a first class guitar player in Whitesnake – after so many years without. Now it might sound like Whitesnake again.

There is a possibility, the special guest will be Adrian Vanderberg or someone like that.

I personally would like to see M3 back together with Coverdale, and they could make final and NORMAL Whitesnake album, Coverdale should record another album with Jimmy Page, and then call it a day….

He’s now speaking like Roger Moore with an American accent…
    And he sings like Snorkies….

Bernie is the best Whitesnake guitar player ever! He has an own style and tone like the other 60s heroes had. The newer whitesnake-players after 83 where all comic characters like D.C. since then…

@14 ….John Sykes is not a comic type guitarist. Just check out his work on Tygers of Pan Tang – snowblind album, or Thin Lizzys – thunder and lightning album, or hiswork with Blue Murder the guy just shreds.

I saw Bernie play a PRS demo and had a chance to chat with him at a guitar show in the NW of England last week. A member of the audience asked him about rumours he may appear as a special guest of Whitesnake during the UK tour dates in June. He seemed surprised that the rumour was ‘out’ and said he’d have to kill us all if he answered ! He mentioned he is in frequent contact with DC at the moment – they appear to have mended their relationship – so it’s odds on that he may appear at some dates. He is an absolutely fantastic player and a real nice guy.

Bernie is without doubt the reason for Whitesnake’s pre-1987 success. He wrote or co-wrote all the hits. Without Bernie’s hitmaking skills Whitesnake would have never raised themselves above the club circuit, Lord and Paice on board or not. You only have to take a listen to DC’s lyrical output since Bernie left the band to understand just how limited DC’s style is. They may have been phenomenally successful with 1987 but without Bernie’s contribution pre 1987 there wouldn’t have been a band to relaunch.
