Coverdale’s Purple Tour

David Coverdale is sticking to his guns during the current Purple Tour with Whitesnake performing no less than eight (silly me) nine Purple songs live. Here’s the setlist from the opening night of the tour — May 28 gig in Airway Heights, WA:

  1. Burn
  2. Lay Down, Stay Down
  3. Love Ain’t No Stranger
  4. Gypsy
  5. Give Me All Your Love
  6. You Keep on Moving
  7. Forevermore
  8. Guitar solo
  9. Mistreated
  10. Soldier of Fortune
  11. You Fool No One
  12. Drum solo
  13. Is This Love?
  14. Lady Double Dealer
  15. Stormbringer
  16. Here I Go Again
  17. Still Of The Night

And I must say that on the album Whitesnake’s Burn sound positively lethargic compared to this live version:

Lay Down, Stay Down:

You Keep on Moving:

In releated news, The Purple Album has sold reasonably well, charting in many countries, albeit nowhere near the top. Worldwide, it sold 23,000 copies in the first week, which landed it at #31 at the Global Album Top 40. Nigel Young has posted a detailed breakdown of the chart positions in different countries.

    Keith Livingstone says:

Given we have to suffer a ‘co-headline’ tour with Def Leppard in the UK/Ire I doubt we will get that entire set list. And I would’ve liked Might Just Take Your Life as opposed to any of the other songs.

  6. 6
    Joe Crowley says:

He won’t be singing Burn by the end of the tour too tuff on his vox, the audience will be singing it.

  7. 7
    Duncan Leask says:

As an old ‘Snake fan I’d rather fancy Lady Luck for the UK dates. One can dream…

  11. 11
    Troy Wickman says:

Purple abandoned these songs. It is up to Coverdale and Hughes to keep them going.

    BLUESMAN says:

The live videos from the first few gigs of the tour sound fantastic!
DC singing more in that great mid range he has, and the harmonies around him sounding terrific.
And its great that he’s doing so many songs off the new album-really freshens up the set list that had becam a tad predictable over the last few years.

    George Mallios says:

Can’t believe one drongo commented on DC doing Child in Time… Obviously a long time fan

    Heepfan says:

Deep Purple MK3 and Whitesnake have always been my favorite bands ever so I really think this set list is perfect !

Finally DC is getting the chance to sing these songs as the only singer, which in my very humble opinion, should have happened back in the 70s….

    TIM says:

Well lets not stand on ceremony here, thats not a bad way to spend the evening ,good looking set list and as part of double header with DL, looks like rather a good night, and good to see the maligned album chart at 18 ,which might give DC a smile as it was 1 place above the very loved ,and for good reason, Now What managed, although it may well not sell the same overall.

    #16

What’s the significance, it topped four Billboards, the first Deep Purple album in history to do so. Nuff said!

  22. 22
    LRT says:

The only one left to be abandoning these songs is Ian Paice. Not Deep Purple as they are now, they weren’t on them. I’m of the opinion that is the most ridiculous gripe ever gone around about them. Perhaps Ian Gillan should be singing King Of Dreams too? Morse playing Mistreated… Please.

    al says:

    @ 15 lol

it reminds some other journalist after a Deep Purple concert, when she said”unfortunately” Gillan didn’t sing Soldier of Fortune, tonight!! what? have you even done the homework at least about the band and albums?! seriously!

    Ivica says:

Set list..To The History of Rock, Hard Rock Bible
Maybe instead of “Guitar solo” and “Drum solo” pocketed “Holy Man”, “Sail Away” or “Ready an ‘Willing ,” Love Will Set You Free “…..!!! ???
Deep Purple family, fans DP, MK3,WS, DC can be blessed to attend a concert

Sounds like a great Set List, The CD is really Good! You can fully tell the Utter Brilliance of Paicey when you hear Snakes You Fool No One. Reb does a commendable job on keyboards in You Keep on Moving. Cheers
