Coverdale’s Purple Tour
David Coverdale is sticking to his guns during the current Purple Tour with Whitesnake performing no less than eight (silly me) nine Purple songs live. Here’s the setlist from the opening night of the tour — May 28 gig in Airway Heights, WA:
- Burn
- Lay Down, Stay Down
- Love Ain’t No Stranger
- Gypsy
- Give Me All Your Love
- You Keep on Moving
- Forevermore
- Guitar solo
- Mistreated
- Soldier of Fortune
- You Fool No One
- Drum solo
- Is This Love?
- Lady Double Dealer
- Stormbringer
- Here I Go Again
- Still Of The Night
And I must say that on the album Whitesnake’s Burn sound positively lethargic compared to this live version:
Lay Down, Stay Down:
You Keep on Moving:
In releated news, The Purple Album has sold reasonably well, charting in many countries, albeit nowhere near the top. Worldwide, it sold 23,000 copies in the first week, which landed it at #31 at the Global Album Top 40. Nigel Young has posted a detailed breakdown of the chart positions in different countries.
Thanks to BraveWords for the info.
I got 9 but whose counting
May 31st, 2015 at 20:13I miss Hughes, Blackmore, Lordy, Blackers
May 31st, 2015 at 20:17Yawn.
May 31st, 2015 at 20:19Don’t miss Hughes!
May 31st, 2015 at 20:42Given we have to suffer a ‘co-headline’ tour with Def Leppard in the UK/Ire I doubt we will get that entire set list. And I would’ve liked Might Just Take Your Life as opposed to any of the other songs.
May 31st, 2015 at 20:44He won’t be singing Burn by the end of the tour too tuff on his vox, the audience will be singing it.
May 31st, 2015 at 20:56As an old ‘Snake fan I’d rather fancy Lady Luck for the UK dates. One can dream…
May 31st, 2015 at 20:57I guess I could have avoided reading this post if I wanted to be surprised with the setlist this coming tues June 2nd, in Santa Rosa but, I had to know! I like how they split the Purple tracks with the WS material. Looking forward to the show!
May 31st, 2015 at 21:26Good Purple songs but what about Fool for your loving? Looking forward to seeing Coverdale sing Mistreated again:-)
May 31st, 2015 at 21:40he needs to put lots of effort to sing Child in Time. (I know it’s from Mark 2. Just wonder)
June 1st, 2015 at 01:06Purple abandoned these songs. It is up to Coverdale and Hughes to keep them going.
June 1st, 2015 at 02:51How can you Not like this?
June 1st, 2015 at 05:27Brilliant album and great concert reviews!!! As a massive Mk III & IV fan, I’m absolutely loving this!!!! Well done DC!!!
June 1st, 2015 at 08:20The live videos from the first few gigs of the tour sound fantastic!
June 1st, 2015 at 08:40DC singing more in that great mid range he has, and the harmonies around him sounding terrific.
And its great that he’s doing so many songs off the new album-really freshens up the set list that had becam a tad predictable over the last few years.
Can’t believe one drongo commented on DC doing Child in Time… Obviously a long time fan
June 1st, 2015 at 09:27anybody has an idea about the sales numbers of the last Deep Purple CD?
June 1st, 2015 at 12:25Ain’t no love in the heart of the city…
June 1st, 2015 at 13:09wow Burn sounds great !!! surprisingly great !! Good iniatiative by Mr. DC… Congratulations .. Here’s really a chance to enjoy those MKIII songs that the original DP will never play…
June 1st, 2015 at 15:04Deep Purple MK3 and Whitesnake have always been my favorite bands ever so I really think this set list is perfect !
Finally DC is getting the chance to sing these songs as the only singer, which in my very humble opinion, should have happened back in the 70s….
June 1st, 2015 at 15:06Well lets not stand on ceremony here, thats not a bad way to spend the evening ,good looking set list and as part of double header with DL, looks like rather a good night, and good to see the maligned album chart at 18 ,which might give DC a smile as it was 1 place above the very loved ,and for good reason, Now What managed, although it may well not sell the same overall.
June 1st, 2015 at 15:36#16
What’s the significance, it topped four Billboards, the first Deep Purple album in history to do so. Nuff said!
June 1st, 2015 at 20:32The only one left to be abandoning these songs is Ian Paice. Not Deep Purple as they are now, they weren’t on them. I’m of the opinion that is the most ridiculous gripe ever gone around about them. Perhaps Ian Gillan should be singing King Of Dreams too? Morse playing Mistreated… Please.
June 1st, 2015 at 20:36@ 15 lol
it reminds some other journalist after a Deep Purple concert, when she said”unfortunately” Gillan didn’t sing Soldier of Fortune, tonight!! what? have you even done the homework at least about the band and albums?! seriously!
June 1st, 2015 at 23:39Set list..To The History of Rock, Hard Rock Bible
June 2nd, 2015 at 08:34Maybe instead of “Guitar solo” and “Drum solo” pocketed “Holy Man”, “Sail Away” or “Ready an ‘Willing ,” Love Will Set You Free “…..!!! ???
Deep Purple family, fans DP, MK3,WS, DC can be blessed to attend a concert
See you in Zagreb …. may Belgrade ?
Are you ready ???
yeeees ….
Seeing them in 12 hours, I better get to driving the 3 plus hours! But for now here is Vancouver May 31st:

June 2nd, 2015 at 16:09I still say I got the best of both worlds…Whitesnake and the Purple tour on July 23 at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, and the next night, Deep Purple in Lynn, Mass…back-to-back and tix in pocket!! This is gonna be fun!!
June 3rd, 2015 at 06:16Sounds like a great Set List, The CD is really Good! You can fully tell the Utter Brilliance of Paicey when you hear Snakes You Fool No One. Reb does a commendable job on keyboards in You Keep on Moving. Cheers
