More Hughes in UK press

Glenn Hughes is currently on tour in the UK and a couple more of his interviews have appeared in the press.

Northhampton Chronicle & Echo has a Q&A style piece covering topics as diverse as Stevie Wonder and Glenn’s cooking habits:

Does it surprise you what a strong following Deep Purple still has, decades after the band first started out?

Deep Purple has a very strong backbone of fans. In the 70s there were these iconic bands, there were 10 of them in Britain, including The Who and Genesis. These bands attracted the largest fan bases and I was in two of those bands. It is incredible I’m still able to do what I do.

Glenn was also interviewed by Mark Taylor of Get Ready To Rock prior to his May 15 solo show in Cambridge.

Part 1

Part 2

Glenn will be holding a signing session on May 29 between 1-3 p.m. at the GuitarGuitar store in Birmingham. The event is sponsored by Laney Amplification.

Thanks to BraveWords and Blabbermouth for the info.

I’m afraid it’s not very difficult to do what Glen does and what he used to do. Glen is a legend in his own mind. Humble Glen needs to drag himself into a corner and have a good chat with himself.

DPDAVE you are so WRONG. Glenn is the best Purple related singer today, and has been around for soooo long. With ups and downs, but now with BCC he is as close as possible to the fame like with Purple long time ago. I could see him in Purple Mrk III again one day. I still cross fingers for it.

    HZ says:

Glenn is great guy, astonishing singer, and his voice in DP together with DC’s will stay to be example of great duo-work. Burn is killer album… Private and personal things between them are irrelevant.
He’s the only one left from DP family that can actually sing and you don’t feel sad or embarrassed when watching him on stage.

    DPDAVE says:

Sorry guys, this is my opinion and I don’t expect everyone to agree.
Glenn Hughes is an average singer with a hugh ego and very little talent who might do well in a Boy Band. Private and personal things can’t change that. I saw DP live in Cork last year and Gillan sounded as good as ever and there was only awe and no embarrassment listening to him sing.
As far as a Mrk. 3 reunion is concerned you might possibly get a one off concert to generate some cash but apart from that it would’nt work
because Glenn was almost responsable for the demise of DP before and it would be very sad to allow him to drag them down to that level again.

HZ, then you must get embarassed easily. I just attended the M3 Festival in Maryland, and they had a bunch of bands there. Whitesnake was there and David sounded great. what do you think makes up a great singer anyway? also Gillan can still sing, maybe not rip the roof of like the 70’s, but he still sings well, the screams are not as strong, but Coverdale still delivers. Is it that he sings in his higher register that bothers the Purple fans ie/ Still of the Night/ Lay Down Your Love/ Slow & Easy? You just like his lower register voice? I’ve never understood that one. And yes Glenn still delivers, does he have a little ego? well yes 40 years in the Rock World? I think he deserves a little ego if he wants! Bill

    Twanky says:

@3 Totally agree. Gillan and Coverdale’s voices have gone west.

Maybe they should gag Glenn as soon he loses himself “the thing we love to hate” : )

Totally agree Bill…Glenn has earned he´s ego the hard way, and is the only one in the DP family that still evolves vocally ! I´ve seen him live on several occassions, as have I seen both Whitesnake and DP and as much as I love them all…..Glenn wipes the floor with the others and always delievers a great show ! Glenn is by far along with DC, in his best moments….the most talented and hard working member of the DP family…PERIOD !!!! DPDAVE….sorry man but, you must be off your rails !!!! ROCK ON…!!!

    purplepriest1965 says:

Gleen is great but I wish I could cut a piece of his software that makes him fall back into that hysteric singing approach.

In this case LESS IS MORE!!!!
