Now, who would have thought that mighty Child in Time would sound just as majestic in an acoustic (well, almost) treatment. Here it is, in all its glory, complete with a Mick Box-esque electric guitar solo. Performed by Akoustik Rock Trio from Germany.

It’s beautifully done and yes, that solo was Box-esque. Listening to most covers of Child in Time illuminates the amazing thing about Ian’s voice wasn’t just his range but also the softness and power especially while singing in falsetto.

No slight intended. Mick was always a bit more of a rhythm guitarist than most guitarists in hard rock bands were, but I love him for the room he left to all those great Heep bassists (Thain, Wetton, Bolder, Daisley). Heep with Bolder in their later years were a sight to behold and a sonic onslaught to hear: (mostly) rhythm guitar with a “lead bass”.

August 18th, 2020 at 12:53In regards to ‘classic’ Uriah Heep, Ken Hensley was in many ways a lead guitarist with those wonderful slide solos. Also a wonderful acoustic guitarist, an incredible songwriter & of course a great keyboard player to boot!
August 20th, 2020 at 06:31I like Mick Box as a old school guitarist, good riffs etc & some nice solos here & there, but I wouldn’t put him in the outstanding lead players list & I don’t go for his wah wah solos much at all. The great thing about Heep back in the early to mid 70’s was they had 2 guitarists at certain times, but not too often to overdo it. It was a magical blend indeed. Those early 70’s British bands really did rule the world in many ways. Bravo I say! Cheers.
