Child in Time, Edinburgh, Usher hall, October 5, 2009. The singer’s name is Grant Barclay. He had been given a tremendous voice and talent to use it, as evidenced by this recording. We wish him all the best in his endeavours.
Thanks to weissheim for uploading and to Daniel Bengtsson for spotting it.

Scottish music students interviewed about rehearsing the Concerto for Group and Orchestra with Jon Lord on keyboards. This Monday October 5 they will perform the Concerto at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall.
Talking about their very first rehearsal with Jon Lord:
– The first time he came into the room we were having a little groove going, and he just sat at the keys and played along. It was like, ‘wow! We are jamming with Jon Lord.’ It was a bizarre experience in a great way, remembers guitarist Thomas Temple, 19 years old (photo left).
– He gets right in there and plays along. Afterwards he gives us tips on little things – ‘the dynamics should be quieter’ – or louder, or ‘that should be a Bb there’ – suggestions here and there for different parts and how they should be played.
– But the freedom he gives us is really cool. He is very free with things such as solo sections, who plays where and making our own sound fit the piece, says Thomas Temple.
Grant Kilpatrick, also 19, (photo right) will be the other guitarist at the concert. He is particularly thrilled with Jon Lord’s approach to rehearsals.
– He works at a very relaxed pace. It’s a pleasant atmosphere to work in.
– This was a surprise at first because you have this perception that Jon Lord, being a very seasoned musician, is going be much more intense than the tutors you get at college. But he was the opposite. Completely laid back and very, very inspiring. Even just sitting and talking to him you feel he has a lot of wisdom.

All proceeds from the sales are donated to the T.J. Martell Foundation for fighting cancer.

British newpaper Birmingham Post has published an interview they did with Steve Morse:
Any news of a new Deep Purple album?
We’re always trying to get started, but these tours keep popping up. Recording is very nearly a volunteer endeavour, and touring pays most of the bills. Despite that, as a group we are committed to doing a new record soon.
When is the Steve Morse Band coming to the UK?
One problem keeps coming up. Compared to US clubs, European or UK promoters ask for more notice up front. Deep Purple is always holding me every month for tours and ideas that are in the works, therefore, when there is a hole in the schedule, it’s usually with not enough notice to book a tour outside of the US. So, the answer is when DP decides to schedule some time off!

Back in 2004 a Polish label Metalmind made a deal with Purple’s management to release a 1996 performance in Katovice with limited distribution in Eastern Europe. The album, titled Live Encounters (read our review) saw the light of the day on DVD, CD and vinyl, all of which eventually found their way to Amazon and was available worldwide.
Metalmind is re-releasing a remastered version of the album on CD on October 19. Once again, it is claimed it will be available in Eastern Europe and Greece only. The digipak version will include complete show, while regular jewel case version will skip (for some reason) No One Came.
