In this special excerpt from a full conversation with Dr. Bill Evans, legendary guitarist Steve Morse joins the discussion to react to something unexpected.
Using AI, Bill was able to recreate a missing portion of one of Steve’s live performances, filling in a section that was never properly recorded. When Steve heard it back, he couldn’t tell where the original ended and the AI reconstruction began.
From there, the conversation opens up into something bigger.

I still believe that behind the scenes he is finally happy, as he’s always true to himself and his inner artistic voice. As genuinely sweet human being as he is – only rounds it up. My opinion, the more AI creeps into Music the more colder, passionless and emotionless the music will become. By the way, I just listened to Triangulation again today. It has become one of my Favorite Morse albums!!
July 9th, 2026 at 17:59That ship has sailed as is inevitable with any type of progress or development, you couldn’t “univent” the steam engine, the nuclear bomb or the computer either. Just like genetically engineered food (which we will likely need even more in the future to feed our mounting world population), we are approaching an age were AI and “handmade” music/art will be increasingly indistinguishable from another. Pointless to get worked up about it.
Just like we will have androids one day who will look and act like humans. They will be programmed to feel and show empathy too.

Insisting that – in the long run – there will or should always be a line between human and AI creativity is quasi-religious nonsense to me. Us humans like to believe we’re unique – so do ants. Imagine how disappointed we all would be if God turned out to be AI? Who knows.

Happily the discussion between the 3 men was interesting and I think Steve’s comparing AI to nuclear fission is a resounding one. With one difference though, where NF was controlled in detail by human due to it’s rapid desctructivity if the control is lost – then in AI case the cat is already out of the bag, and possibility of retaining author’s rights and protect them from unlicensed use – is already lost.
July 9th, 2026 at 18:42In my opinion, AI is helpful for gathering imaginative ideas, testing melodies and various rhythms, creating an raw demo, to demonstrate to other people how a part of a song might sound
But when it finally comes to actual songwriting and recording sessions, AI should be scrapped and let real human do them. Things AI will never replace are ’emotion’, ‘passion’, ‘human relationship’ which are purely human being

July 10th, 2026 at 07:43AI might have a hard time writing songs like Bob Dylan, but it could do a decent job replacing assembly line chart fodder as provided in the 70s by, say, Chinn/Chapman or in the 80s by Stock Aitken Waterman.
Let‘s get real, guys and girls, does anybody really think that The Sweet’s Ballroom Blitz or Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Gove You Up became hits because of their authentic human content? There has always been a market for “convenience music”. And doesn’t anyone remember George Orwell’s 1984 where the “proles” in their skid row quarters were kept entertained by whimsical, melancholic songs both musically written and texted by machines controlled by “the Party”?
There are a myriad uses for machine-made or AI-generated music. In most cases people will not give a hoot whether humans were creatively involved. You just wait and watch.

IMHO it comes very close.

I’m sorry, but I find most of her lyrics more meaningful than “everybody was fightning”-Ballroom Blitz or “he’ll steal your woman from under your nose”-Blockbuster, but glam horses for courses. Taylor doesn’t sing much about non-flying wizards either nor does she need mock outsize dragons on stage, silly girl. Whatever rocked and rocks your boat, buddy!
Does Taylor Swift’s music use AI elements? Likely – at least she doesn’t profess for it to be not the case. Is she commercial and chart-oriented? Yes, with somewhat more success than Ritchie when he tried for dear life to be. There are wanters and there are doers.
