Don’t play too hard

Back in June, Ian Paice spoke to Russian drumming magazine Back Beat. And what you’d expect to be a quite technical talk with a trade rag turned out to be an entertaining conversation that is very accessible to laypeople. There is a lot of wisdom in here for an aspiring musician to soak up.

Thanks to Back Beat for not overdubbing the interview and to Space Truckin from deep-purple.ru forum for the heads up.

I had the highest of expectations of a great interview and those expectations were met and exceeded…My favorite part is the OH BY THE WAY moment that happens at the end, picture is fading (SPOILER ALERT) and Ian gives a sound bit of advise…picture comes back and there’s a very lovely coda on the best way to play and how to get the best sound…as long as it works for you…

Very informative. The only thing I do not like that much is to call the new songs “babies” in comparison with the old ones and bury them inbetween. Unfortunately they have used to do this since 1984 and did not give a chance to so many great songs.
