I’ll look forward to getting this as I love “come taste the band” I don’t necessarily view this album as a DP album, but it’s still a great one:)

The footage will be interesting for me, as I saw the band live back in 75. They were awful that night, Tommy in particular and Glenn was so over the top it was ridiculous. I have heard however that the indonesian stuff is very good, so i hope this will help to improve my memories of those dark days back in 75:)

Hhmm, sounds interesting, I think that I’ll put some money aside for this release, I have so little of this line-up.

Great news. At the time I was not the biggest fan of Mrk IV, but all these years later I find them as a great part of the Purple history, and at times more powerfull than the latest Mrk of Purple (the same and the same and the same…… show year after year….)

    FANTASTIC!!!!!

I hope they do this up right. The total time is 100 minutes? Plus there is the Bolin Tribute Album coming out and the Re-Mastered ‘Come Taste the Band’ lp with extra stuff…..Christmas looks to be splendid this year……

    Cheers

I really like listening to Tommy Bolin from the Archives Volume 1. He sounds really laid back & relaxed the way he sings on some tracks. You feel like you are in the room with him.
His voice sound good too, he was a great as musician.
The two track’s from Ebbetsfield 74 sound really impressive! Especialy the You Know track, he could play from eally hard rock to Mexican Santana style.
If only the management gave them a break to regroup as was planned in June 76 they would have played longer. About time some footage from this line up was located , there must be some more hidden away somewhere to !

    Thunderhawk says:

    @14,

Now that’s also something i would buy without thinking twice, I have a bootlegg from Paris I think, 1985, but what realy would be awesome is to release one of the Sydney shows, or a compulation of the best performences of those nights in Sydney, or just al the nights in one box.
Now that would be a joy for every Die-Hard Deep Purple, not that this is’nt, it’s just that i think that there is so much Purple out there, but that it’s some how holding back for us.

    What do you think?.

    Chears!!!!

    Andre Sihotang says:

As an Indonesian citizen, I think all those garbage news about infamous 2 days Deep Purple Mk IV concerts were partially (or totally????) overhyped and went too far over the top. Even I wasn’t born at the time, let me shed some lights about those historic concerts :

    1. Those are the FIRST rock concerts in Indonesian land. More than 160.000 people came to rock’n roll to our biggest stadium in two days concerts. They were not festival, but DP concerts. It was really a huge moment in our rock music history, even until this day all the young boys like me know the story and of course dream if we were born very early.

    2. Chaos happenend BECAUSE our policemen (police, not concert security) really absolutely totally unfortunately HAD NO experience in handling people on a rock concert!! While people were swallowed in a big pride of rock’n roll for the first time, some commanders thought things going to be worse (hey, that was our first international rock concert. So they made sense). Then they start to push back the audience harshly and let loose some dogs to make the people scarry (IF IAN GILLAN WAS THERE,then you must be know what would be happened). That’s why the second day was stopped earlier, but believe me the concert were succesful. The problem, audiences got angry because the concert stopped by the police and promotor==>chaos happened. But bear in your mind, Deep Purple had several historic chaos concert even in around 10.00-20.000 arena..and also many rock bands. What would u expect from an 80.000 audiences rock concert that stopped early? Peace?
At least nobody’s death. They were only some medium size chaos outside the stadium.

    3. Things that made it more overhyped than ever was the accident that fell on Bolin’s crew.

    4. Did u know that the band went to bar and drink and having fun together in a bar with some of our reporters and people after the problematic second day concert? They revealed that the two days concert were wonderful. Perhaps the biggest of MkIV and one of the biggest Purple ever done

    5. Until this time, in Indonesian rock music world, those concerts were the starting point. Thank u Coverdale, Hughes, Lord(he played one of our children songs on keyboard before ‘Lazy’, which inspirates many of our keyboard players about how to trick on a concert), Bolin(RIP) and Paice.

    Jim Sheridan says:

So, we will have the new CTTB and this DVD at around the same time, plus the first of two Bolin tribute albums – not too shabby! This is a good year to be a Tommy Bolin fan.

  22. 22
    Purple says:

Wonder how long the clip from Indonesia is?

  23. 23
    Jim Sheridan says:

AND in addition to this, deeppurple.net says that they also DID find a COMPLETE MARK IV concert film!! IT does not ay which one…

16 horrible DP years with ALMOST no additive worth while …..

They could have fought hard to dig up anything worthy from the REAL DP YEARS!!!!!

Or do more interesting solo ventures like they did inbetween 1976 and 1984.

Well, we and they are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to old now.

A lot of material may never reach us in the future.

It will be decided its not worthy enough anymore due to for example the downloading syndrome, they partly helped to generate in the past by releasing too expensive shit.

Hopefully I m wrong and people with LOVE FOR MUSIC will find acces to all of it anyway.

You really have become quite the ‘old chronic complainer’ whom needs a real life aside from continually complaining about Purple in their present state. I address their lack of New Production because I admire and enjoy the music they have made over the past 16 years and want more. You do nothing but bitch about what they have done and don’t seem interested in anything the may come out with unless Blackmore is involved. You only poke fun at Morse and claim that they have no creative bond. I don’t. I feel they are capable of releasing a great album still, and also find the last 4 to be totally enjoyable and completely different giving us a great variety of style to add to the rest of the classics…..

16 horrible years with nothing worth while????? Why are you even still here????? Glad they are. You???? I can do without.

    Cheers

    FLIPFLOP TIME AGAIN……

I think I have stirred up your loyalty and antipathy reflexes towards me.

You re defending your former views again while you very recently jumped the bandwagon of complaints about the current affairs in the band.
YOU are the one that not only a change is in the air but also suggesting it should be Steve.

I always said PURPENDICULAR and CTTB were nice albums but…..

    Tommy ruined it on stage.
Steve NEVER again accomplished such an effort again with DP.

Ofcourse theoretically once can say its about opinions and so on….

But when you and many others are getting more and more convinced DP are unproductive and should change a member why are you attacking me?!

Another old hassle is about WHY I SHOULD BE HERE OR NOT….

You flipflopped again here because first you suggested THS should be only about the CURRENT DP and after that you changed your mind again.

I have a life besides music and DP, thank you!

I m on THS because there is so much more to DP than the current line ups and there unimaginative attitude.

    Think Black Country.
    Think OTR.
    Think Jon Lord.
    And so on…….

Musically I explore lots of avenues.

This week I listened to Dead can Dance s Lisa Gerhardt, or whats her name precisely…, The Beatles, Bach, The Doors,FOGHAT,Foreigner, Robert Plant and the Band Of Joy, Them Crooked Vultures,Y and T and loads more.

Privately I still love to work out, read a lot, see a lot of different formats on TV, I love to cook, garden, talk, write……….

My health is not as good as 2 years ago.

I already told you things about that and the reasons…..

Maybe YOU should read better or try to drink less, although I had to laugh about your mosquito story, hahaha, or memorise a few things more.

I m very willingly and able to admit I m not always laughing.

But to say I m JUST being negative is BS.

Did you already order your Autumn Sky vinyl?

  29. 29
Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

    Priest…

No flip flopping here. I have expressed displeasure with the Obvious, ONLY. I am thoroughly pleased with the Present Line-up of Purple. As I have stated many times…It’s who they are. The Only thing I have any complaint about at this point is the lack of a New Album. That’s pretty much it. Would love a new record from These Guys. BUT, that doesn’t mean I can’t look further into the situation and wonder why there has been such a long lull between albums. Once they are gone, there will be no more Touring. All there will be is the enjoyment of what has been recorded from that point on. I for one listen mostly to the Newer material these days. Mainly because the Older stuff has been worn out over and over since my long journey with them. I hope to get a couple more albums out of them to enjoy for the future. I guess I’m actually panicking in the realization that Purple very well may have given us their last album. That is very displeasing to me. My premonition is that either a record is released by these guys this year or a line-up change happens and record is released next year, or they are done. Hope I’m wrong. Unlike you, I truly look forward to their next record. I hope it happens.

As for your statement about me saying that THS is Only for Present Purple, that is totally wrong. I actually stated it is for All Things Purple, but obviously PURPLE first over Ex Purple Members….seems pretty clear to me.

Haven’t ordered Autumn Sky vinyl. Will buy the CD when it comes out though….

    Cheers

Since early 80’s I when hear Come to taste the band – album, I have very much appreciated this DP formation. Days may come – session album was also very interesting one, and there is also some excellent stuff in their live albums. Eagarly waiting to get this one in to my hands!

  32. 32
Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

    drew @30

Thanks for the link to the Trailer. Looks to be interesting and to contain some good band footage. Also looks as though only Ex Purple folks are involved in the project. Funny how complainers here bitch about the Present Purple chasing the dollar and beating a dead horse. How about these Ex Purple folks constantly coming up with Old crap for a buck.

Either way, looks like something else I’ll have to purchase….

    Cheers

    purplepriest1965 says:

    @ 32

I NEVER get tired of listening to the old stuff.
    Not shy to admit that.

Hell, I even give PURPENDICULAR and BANANAS a spin sometimes.

I m not looking forward to a new DP album, indeed, why would I?

I wrote somewhere else they still have it in them to deliver something good, providing a few changes that is…..

    I dont buy everything.
The habit of that old DP junkie is still trying to trigger me into it, but I m a strong man too.

Hopefully the trailer is not representative of the MK 4 DVD.
As noted elsewhere…..Is it not awkward they use MK 3 footage as well in the trailer?

Good luck then with buying old crap.

I ll join you when I feel like…..

    Guess I m detoxing.

  34. 34
Tracy Heyder (aka Zero the Hero) says:

Priest, I love listening to Old stuff also. That wasn’t the point…AGAIN. I was referring to them digging up past material in order to suck some money from the stone. Yes, I will purchase it and most likely enjoy it. Especially if it mostly contains unseen footage. I would have loved for Bolin to have not passed and continued more with Purple just to see how it would have progressed. I believe a follow-up to CTTB would have been a good one. Especially if he could have refrained from hanging with Hughes and they skipped the habit that ultimately killed it.

    Cheers

    drew says:

Regarding the trailer, its just a snapshot of the film – it is impossible to tell the Mk4 story without first talking about the demise of Mk3 and the atmosphere at the time. There will be a lot of material that will surprise you all. And importantly it champions the band concentrating on the incredible material they produced in very difficult circumstances in 1975.

To: Purplepriest & Tracy – really like your constant banter about, old, new, etc etc, and have to admit that I side with both of you on many occasions. We’re all misunderstood at times! The MK IV stuff will at least be interesting to look at and I’m sure we will all wonder “what if…” had TB managed to get through his problems, it’ll be much more interesting than MKIII’s final efforts, especially the truly aweful Stormbringer. We can contribute to GH’s coffers, or not, we all have the choice.
    Cheers.
