All Star Bolin Tribute Album

Four years in the making, a new all star tribute album to Tommy Bolin is getting closer to release. This weekend’s Tommy Bolin Music Fest is, in addition to live music, a pre-release for for the album, called “Mr. Bolin’s Lake Night Revival.”

The album is a collection of artists doing creative renditions of Bolin’s rare acoustic demos. The disc’s US release comes this fall, and will be promoted through an addiction awareness campaign.

The 17-track release includes jazz and soul elements in addition to hard rock and power ballads.

Contributing to the recording are members of Boston, Dokken, Rainbow, Alcatraz, Mr. Big, The R. Kelly Band and The Ted Nugent Band, and others.

According to Sioux City Journal, proceeds from the new album will to go Jackson Recovery Center, a drug and alcohol recovery center in Sioux City. The “new” material comes from a reel of acoustic demos stashed in the back of an amplifier.

“The idea is to rehab Tommy’s image and legacy,” said Bill Schenk to Sioux City Journal. Schenk is a Chicago producer, Bolin family friend and producer of the album.

Hopefully some really good session musicians will play to Tommy’s actual guitar work. Would love to see a MK4 backing lineup on a couple of the songs. Put Paice, Hughes, Coverdale and Lord together on a couple of these tracks for a true Landmark Tribute…..

Huh? What do ya think? Pretty friggin’ awesome I say.

    Cheers

Agreed Tracy….But where´s Glenn ???? An all star tribute to Bolin and no GH ??? He should be at the helm for the whole album, and singing lead on every song…..WEIRD !!!

Glenn has been involved in many Bolin Tribute shows. There is an official recording of a show in I think 1997. Though they were onetime band mates and as Glenn suggests, Soul Mates, it doesn’t hold him responsible for all things Bolin. Actually it doesn’t state here that Hughes isn’t taking part, so who knows….

    Cheers

There is another Bolin tribute disc in the works, which features Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule, Allman Bros), Brad WHitford (Aerosmith), Nels Cline (Wilco), and Steve Lukather, and Glenn is on THAT one.

…so my money is on the cd that features GH,

they go hand in hand with the late, great T. Bolin I think!

Hello everyone. This record specifically, is about the above artists doing creative renditions of rare acoustic demos left in the wake of Tommy’s premature death. It is important that you reword the above quotes that way so that this record is not comfused with the Tommy Bolin performances with modern guests which too is more of a tribute album as well. The Sioux City Journal was not as clear as they should have been on the first paragraph in papers often start general and become more specific further down.
