DP tribute band………………with JLT………..why oh why oh why

    Jim says:

I think it is OK for JLT to perform material that he was involved in writing,(Rainbow, Slaves and Masters etc.) but stay away from true DP classics.

  3. 3
    T says:

…and it’s OK to do songs he sang for Purple which the current Purple no longer does, e.g., “Burn”.

  4. 4
    Jim says:

Yeah its OK to do Burn if he wants to, but I think most people will feel that tune as well as others from MK3 are better suited for DC or Glenn. JLT has enough in his library to fill a show with his material. Although they are great songs and someone should be playing them (maybe for his encore).

I’d always want to hear the MkV classics, “Fire In The Basement”, “King Of Dreams”, “The Cut Runs Deep”, “Love Conquers All” etc. but having heard a bootleg from ’91 I’d also say he does a good job on “Perfect Strangers”, “Burn”, “Lazy”, “Child In Time”, and “Hush”. And I loved “Stormbringer” with Glenn Hughes from the “Live In Tokyo” album. Any chance of another HTP tour? Maybe they could convince Mr. Blackmore to join them, as he seems quite bored with BN these days (I know I am). As a Mr. McCartney once said, That Would Be Something.

    STOP NOW!
And stop is NOT JLT, but alle you freaks alwas having a go on Joe. He is a VERY good singer. He can, and should, sing all the songs he wants, and yes he has plenty great songs of his own and with Rainbow and DP. DP right now are on and off playing Hush even that only Paice was in DP at the time they had succes with Hush. At a time they even played Thin Lizzy “The boys are back in town” as first number in the show. They are not better on this matter.
Only Coverdale are playing Burn and that number is one of DP best ever, and far better than 99% of what they have done since RB left ages ago.

Please Joe, play all the songs you want – you have the voice to do, and that is more than you say about most singers these days.

    – AND one more thing Joe. Get RB bach with his Fender please.

    Bo says:

    Sorry
I forgot that also the great Glen Hughes also sings Burn. And thanks for that!

    Sami says:

Never mind the jerks, Bo…JLT is a Great Singer and his voice keeps getting
better with age(same could not be said for some other singers!!!)!!
Joe does/did a good version of Burn, but Glenn Hughes is far better on those
    Mk3 classics…HTP was a fantastic combination, though!
What comes to Blackmore’s Night or the current Purple(GillanMorse-band)…boring boring boring.

  9. 9
    TruthHurts says:

Well said, Sami. We ought to start shouting for Blackmore to join HTP, I think it would blow everything and everyone else away.

    Sami says:

By the way, I like all the Purple line up’s…I think they all have made a valuable contribution to this Amazing band’s legacy(some for better, some for not so much better)!!
Mk I is on my speaker’s today…Great stuff, but so is Warhorse & Captain Beyond…criminally underrated!!

  11. 11
    Sami says:

TruthHurts, your so right!HTP with Blackers would definitely blow everything away…and I mean EVERYTHING!!

  12. 12
    T says:

Blackmore will never have anything more to do with anything Purple outside of re-working a few old numbers for Blackmore’s Night.

HTP is over anyway. Glenn said he would no longer consider that. Apparently, he and Joe did not get along very well, and Glenn also indicated that he is too busy with his own things to go back to HTP. They did two great studio albums and a stellar live one.

THAT SAID, however, Glenn indicated he WOULD play with Tony Iommi again (despite Iommi being in Heaven & Hell at the moment).

Since Glenn Hughes’ change of personal and musical attitude from the Purple days, I would say he is now in a state of mind perfect for some kind of project with Blackmore who’d always been looking for a “bluesy” sound. The time is ripe for that. And since Glenn sings AND plays some hot bass, they’d save money on an extra member!

    Cranberry says:

Stop having a go at JLT, why cant he sing whatever he wants!!

I mean he hasnt anything done anything really memorable for years, and theirs only so many ‘Spotlight Kids’ you can get away with singing at the same venue!!

Wonder if he will sing any Van Halen???

What about a bit of Chas ‘n’ Dave???

  14. 14
    JBS says:

So basically JLT is a cover band, and cover bands do and sing anything they want. So who cares, just let him be. As far RB is concerned it seems like he will only play with someone he can dominate or keep repressed, and when they start do their own thing no matter how minimal they are fired or RB just quits again.

    purplepriest1965 says:

Btw, perhaps HUSH was originally recorded by Mark1 in the studio first but the POWERHOUSE version of Mark 2 doing HUSH remains the one………

  16. 16
    T says:

The live Mk2 version of “The Bird Has Flown” is equally strong.

  17. 17
    Rascal says:

Does JLT do a cover of Motorheads ‘Ace Of Spades’??

  18. 18
    Cranberry says:

JLT does ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ ?????

  19. 19
    Otis says:

No no, JLT does covers of the Cranberries & Rascals…both of them utter BS!!!
The definitive version of Hush was done by Mk1, no contest!

  20. 20
    Otis says:

Purple Mk8 is the ultimate cover band,
they’re a Classic Rock band too.

  21. 21
    JBS says:

If MK8 is a cover band they are the best damn cover band I ever paid $50 to see just 2 weeks ago. I would go see them tommorow at twice the price.

  22. 22
    Sami says:

What is that Otis-character blabbering about!? Mk8 is a great band in it’s own right ,although I think it’s more of a Gillan/Morse-band than Deep Purple,
but that is a matter of opinion.
Tonight we’re going to see & hear Graham Bonnet and JLT in my home town
Tampere here in Finland…It’s a great idea to have these two Rainbow-vocalists in double bill.Looking forward to it very much.

    Otis……………..your so funny!!
