Thunder in my brain
Several video clips have been posted over the last few days on the Ritchie Blackmore Official youtube channel, some of those known better than the others.
Mandrake Root live at La Taverne de l’Olympia in Paris, October 8, 1970:
Ditto, live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall (a.k.a. South Bank Centre), London, on July 28, 1970:
Strange Kind of Woman (excerpt), live at the Hofstra University in Hempstead, Long Island, New York, on May 29, 1973:
Promotional videos for Rainbow’s Long Live Rock ‘n’ Roll (single edit):
…and L.A Connection off the same album:

Unauthorized copying, while sometimes necessary, is never as good as the real thing
IG’s 1973 beard (worn by him to annoy Ritchie who didn’t like beards in the band back then) roolz! 😎 Ritchie only allowed moustaches with keyboarders it seems. (DC only grew a beard in Mk IV, not while Ritchie was still around in Mk III.)
Exquisite bass playing by Roger.
Bob Daisley was – by a stretch – the most handsome bassist Rainbow ever had. These Australian men – all of them really – are blessed by nature. First sexual encounters with woolly livestock seem to do them no lasting harm whatsoever.

September 29th, 2026 at 10:06Jon Lord even had a beard on the Fireball Cover and all the promo shots during that time!
Maybe that did to Ritchie …
Roger Glover had a beard back then and still does… Ritchie must have looked the other way.
September 29th, 2026 at 10:17Some people in the audience seem lose and out of control. I wonder if it’s the extended jamming or something in the air.
September 29th, 2026 at 17:02Peace ✌️
Never read RB being anti bearded fellowmusicians.
He befriended John Bonham, Glover had a beard,Lord in his Fureballdays, and in the end he completely went overboard, incl the goatee, himself.
Once being silly about Bonnet he then traveled with idiotic appearances like the Depeche Mode drummer and that weirdo on bass.
The original drummer on the SIUA album had a beard.
Well, at least the BN audience could stare at their Barbie on the vocals.
September 29th, 2026 at 20:19The video for “The Unwritten Law” has also just appeared on Ritchie’s channel.
https://youtu.be/X7H3mM4H_p0?si=Ij6BvDiHp6TA3HOj
But it’s not an official video, right?
September 29th, 2026 at 21:47because there are some images of Gillan and Glover that look to me like they’re from the *Accidentally on Purpose* videos
Yo,
@1…
Ok, I’ll play this click-bait lol, but only to set the record straight…
It is New Zealand that has the buggary issue going-on Herr Uwe, at least as far as the local legend has it…eg…Here’s a quote that us Aussies grew-up-with, & is well known.
qt.”New Zealand…The place where men are men, & sheep are worried”…
Anyhow, it’s refreshing to see RB taking an active & positive interest in his career, & good to see him posting this memorabilia 🙂 !
* ( He seemed to have a negative attitude attributed with RJD,( at least with what he says within his “RB story” DVD), so perhaps he’s found some balance again by posting this clip with Ronnie ? )…
Ciao !
September 29th, 2026 at 22:34I had forgotten about this …

It does raise the question whether the conventional wisdom of the Bain/Carey Rainbow line-up outshining the Daisley/Stone one is really on track. Daisley has a forceful control in his playing you otherwise only hear from John McCoy. And do my ears deceive me or is Stone quite a bit more inventive than Carey as a rhythm player? Plus not a slouch as a soloist on the synth (not that Carey wasn’t good at that either).
And even I have to admit that Cozy sounds good and lively on this – there I said it! Now watch the fireworks go off in Tasmania. 🤣
September 30th, 2026 at 03:20Also from Ritchie’s channel, a composite (inter alia from Super Drumming and Rock Aid Armenia), but nicely done (by Russell Wagus it says), Nick/Svante might want to add it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7H3mM4H_p0
Always dug that particular track.
September 30th, 2026 at 03:29Ah the great beard myth with zero supporting evidence except some silliness to support a narrative – file under things that never happened. 70’s mutton chops rule.
@7 Gregor, RJD said some biting remarks about Ritchie, none of which were ever verified. Ritchie has always spoke highly of RJD and leading up to Cozy’s death they were in talks about reforming.
Quick note about Ronnie, I witnessed a maximum diva moment at Leicester DeMontfort Hall – Last in Line tour 1984, during the encore someone encroached on the stage – Ronnie stormed off without playing Mob Rules vowing never to return to Leicester. He didn’t return
September 30th, 2026 at 11:59I think in the grand scheme of things, Jon’s facial hair had special status with Ritchie and he didn’t deem Roger much to look at in the first place! With Ian Gillan it was different, his good looks in (then) very current way, which Ritchie deemed Jim Morrison’esque in 1969, were a point in his favor in addition to his singing. Now Jim Morrison eventually grew a beard too, but his clean-shaven look is generally regarded as his handsome phase.
Of course Ritchie’s tolerance for facial and generally shorter hair grew (no pun intended) over time or Chilean export Ronnie Romero would have never gotten the job.
September 30th, 2026 at 12:37In the Chris Charlesworth bio of yore it was metioned that Ritchie took personal offense to the – aptly named – “Ritchie Blackmore Aggravation Look” which Ian sometimes sported on the last Mk II tours – three piece suit, shorter hair and beard.

Trust our Ian to find something to rub Ritchie the wrong way!
It’s what happens in bands, Joan Jett didn’t like Cherie Currie’s corset (acquired in a lingerie shop while in Japan on tour) either, she thought it cheapened The Runaways’ image.

I m not a musician so maybe I should refrain from mingling in discussions like that?
I always LOVED the LLR album and tour recordings.Osaka 78 is just 1 of my favs I regularly use to lift me from a depression.
The love for this line up started with the ROCKPALAST/WDR video a friend had on tape and for a 15 year old that was REALLY spectacular.
I read about a complete RISING show filmed in USA but I dont know if….
It has been discussed, very confusing, which player played what on RISING and LLR.
I once read an odd remark from Stone that he is to be heard on ON STAGE!!! Moi : WTF?
A recent Tony Carey interview makes him say he plays on 3 songs of LLR. Lady Of the Lake, Kill the king and LLR.
I think Stone s contribution, of which he sold to RB.is mainly Gates of Babylon?
I know they kept bullying him away and asking him back.
Read that KILL THE KING and maybe even LLR were left overs from the RISING sessions?
Uwe, 2015 is relatively long ago but it seems I missed out on this one though though I do remember other stuff on YT released by Daisley.
Not sure if these parts landed on a DELUXE edition later on.
Never heard of Ritchie suing Bobs ass off when he did release it.
Maybe it was “settled” and hush hush?
Anyway, for a long time I feel frustrated, desiring to hear more gems from the so called vault in Ritchies castle.
September 30th, 2026 at 14:46I once read an odd remark from Stone that he is to be heard on ON STAGE!!! Moi : WTF?
Unlike bassists, keyboarders never lie. He says he patched some of Tony Carey’s parts up on On Stage whose preparation for release crossed with his entry into the band in mid 1977:
https://stonecoldcrazyjeff.com/2013/05/18/a-very-candid-conversation-with-david-stone/
It’s a v e r y long interview and it also sheds some light on what happened in Vienna (David was in jail too). David’s recollection of jamming a blues shuffle with Rainbow in Munich to pass the time until Ritchie arrived is not shared by me though. I was there, standing in the audience, waiting with two school buddies, Frank and Rudi. No alcohol, no drugs (I was 16 and a good boy from the country). I remember that Ronnie walked on stage shortly before midnight to announce that Ritchie had finally arrived from the Autobahn and that Rainbow would soon be on stage to play. Maybe they jammed backstage to pass time or David just confuses another incident where Ritchie showed up late and the band had to make do?
He also recounts how he threw a wine bottle at Ritchie in frustration in Atlanta because Ronnie had been badly hurt by a beer bottle thrown from the audience onto stage (that tour with REO was blighted). And lived to tell the tale!

David Stone is undoubtedly mis-remembering any contribution to On Stage because it simply could not have happened.
– The live album was officially released in early July 1977.
– The Joining Date: David Stone did not even leave his previous band (Symphonic Slam) or get recruited by Rainbow’s management until July 1977. It is logistically impossible for Stone to overdub a vinyl record that had already been mixed, mastered, pressed, distributed, and placed onto store shelves before he even stepped foot in a Rainbow rehearsal room.
As for Kill the King – it was created in the reharsals for the Rising tour as a show opening because Ritchie wanted a fast opener akin to Highway Star and Burn – see Tower of Babel

October 1st, 2026 at 16:24At least in Australia, our mothers don’t give us suppositories up our rear ends like in Germany or Austria, right Mr. Uwe?
It certainly would have been a tight schedule for him to still contribute to patch-ups of the album as late as even early July with mastering and pressing of the album then following in a rushed fashion. Maybe he did mistake it with Tony’s keyboard parts on some LLRnR songs which he did indeed replace, he talks about it here:
https://youtu.be/R18NgoUVUew
Tony himself has said in his recent interviews that the keyboards on LLRnR are an amalgamation of his and David’s contributions and that even he can’t say today which parts are his and which came from David.
When I saw Rainbow in fall 1976, KTK was as yet still unreleased on record (either live or as a studio track), but it already opened the set.

October 7th, 2026 at 09:57Why don’t they do a 3D limited edition with an embossed lighting Rainbow rig on the cover with a few LEDs and a small battery? For that all-immersive experience! ☝️🥸
October 7th, 2026 at 23:29Someone sold, mid 80 s , his vinyl.
CD HYSTERIA
I bought from a lilac coloured version of 24 CARAT and a picturedic version of the later by the bandmembers forbidden first release of MAGAZINE
Way back I thought the strange, why lilac, it aint purple , 24 carat was wonderful.
But espescially in recent years we ve been flooded with coloured vinyls to no end.
And I preferred the first MAGAZINE release and thought the band it self who made a different version, were too uptight.

HEART never was the same without the essential Fisher, Fossen, Derosier trio.
IMHO Roger Fisher is an excellent guitarplayer on par with the wellknown ones
