Alarm bells ringing clear

Almost 20 years ago to this day, in March 2002, Deep Purple played a show at the Meteor Hall in Dnepropetrovsk (now Dnipro), Ukraine. These were the vegetarian times by todays standards…

Thanks to Matt’s Bootlegs for posting this and to Tobias for bringing it to your attention.

Gillan still belting out Child in Time and playing Congas during instrumental peices. I miss those days.

A great show from the Gillan in Pyjamas era. Fine setlist that wasn’t over-loaded with Machine Head tunes.
Deep cuts like Fools & The Aviator. Excellent !

Relevant lyrics in The Aviator. Steve was tearing it up.

I emailed Ian the other day that it would be great if he could add ‘Child in Time’ back into the concert set, now that the Cold War has sparked up again. Obviously, no one would expect him to hit the 5-octave notes of 1970, but he could do it as the last song of the night and then rest his voice for several days.

Well, to get on the Rolling Stone US edition cover, you have to be creative and persistent!

(Needless to say, staying sober while playing live on German TV wasn’t part of the job description!)

Back in 1974, my three favorite bands were Alice Cooper, Deep Purple and – you guessed it! – Dr Hook & The Medicine Show.

I could live with him not doing the screaming part anymore at all, play it on synth, whatever. If he just did the quiet verses with the mature voice he has today, I’d be happy. It’s a song, not an athletic tournament.

Guys, take a break with Child In Time and give some respect for The Gentlemen. They told several times (not only Big Ian, it’s the band statement) that Child In Time will never be played again, because it’s voice-devastating. Do you really think that the band would do ANY song with fake sounds, voiceovers or whatever? They’ve always been real and play everyting live. Also, remember that they’re not our pets and they’re obviously tired with “suggestions” from fans “play this or that”.

The boys were due to play in Kyiv in May.

It and the show in Moscow have disappeared from the list on the official site.

@9 What a sick insensitive comment to make. Clearly you dont have a heart and dont care that civilians are being killed and displaced from their homes. Shame on you THS for putting this comment @9 on. You are just as sick as he is! wise up.
