Made In Japan DVD? Nope!

Recently THS has been receiving enthusiastic emails about a new Deep Purple DVD with the words ‘Made In Japan’ in title.
‘Were those Japanese shows really filmed after all? Wow! I can’t wait to get this!’
Sadly, the definite answer is that NO, Deep Purple’s Japanese shows in August 1972 were NOT filmed. If anyone tries to tell you otherwise they’re really just after your money.
The DVD in question has received a neat little write up on the Deep Purple Appreciation Society site which includes the word ‘crappy’, and serves as a warning against those who really think it’s fair to peddle recordings from Ian Gillan’s solo shows under the Made In Japan name. The sooner these rip-off DVDs disappear the better.

On of the greatest albums ever recorded by one of the greatest rock band in history. Made In Japan is one of the most exciting albums ever recorded. Featuring rare archive performances of the classic line up of Deep Purple live in concert, this is the ultimate review of a landmark in rock history. Also featured are rare archive interviews with the band themselves including the views of the man in black himself Ritchie Blackmore and solo performances of material from the album by Ian Gillan…

    UPDATE:
Nilsgol has been in touch to say he merely quoted the PR talk from Classic Rock Productions’ website.
I have asked them to specify *exactly* which ‘rare archive performances’ and ditto interviews the DVD includes, but I’m not holding my breath.
Their website says: “To ensure editorial control, the film is totally unauthorized and has not been authorized or approved by past or present members or management of the band.”

And I was already thinking someone had too much spam egg sausage and spam for breakfast, even though that’s not got much spam in it. 😉

If Made in Japan is not filmed in august 1972, then the link blow is fake or is it just DVD-audio?? http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/dvd/B000B0QJM2/rentals/203-0465773-9951930

As the reciew on the Amazon page says:
“Warning – This DVD does not include any footage of the “Made In Japan” recording. It features interviews with rock journalists and some pretty uninspiring footage from Danish TV and New York show.

To be honest I was disappointed and felt fooled by the title. As a fan I found the interviews interesting, but it wasn’t what I expected.”
