Colour and rough gibberish
Yahoo! News has a few quotes from Ian Gillan regarding his next year’s spoken word tour that will apparently include memories of Jesus Christ Superstar, Garth Rockett And The Moonshiners, and Repo Depo, among other things.
I am ecstatic in anticipation of sharing tales not only from the road and studios, but also my early years and the amazing souls I have had the pleasure to meet along the way.
From hilarious rock ‘n’ roll stories to reflections on life and the wonderful experiences I have had, I hope to have audiences transfixed from the start.
I’ve got shelves full of notebooks. I call it ‘colour and rough gibberish’, I jot down everything, phrases, what people were drinking, how the wind was blowing, anything that adds detail.
Unauthorized copying, while sometimes necessary, is never as good as the real thing
I watched Ian in 2019 …and followed the Don Airey Band (Simon on guitar, symphony orchestra led by conductor Stephen Beltley Klein. Excellent night.
I hope that the setlist 2027 will include less DP songs and more songs from other periods of his great career ..for example, the song Holy Water with Tony Iommi (like a hard rock anthem and for me his best song since Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming ), next….”Over and Over “(Jon Lord), “Don’t Hold Me Back””, ,”My Heart Remain The Same”( Rakintzis), “No Good Luck” ….maybe Gethsemane(I Only Want to Say).Big Ian ,Big songs

July 22nd, 2026 at 13:50We’re off to the Newcastle date – I’m intrigued by the prospect, and look forward to hearing some of the above tales from Ian. Hopefully we’ll get a fair bit about his days in Episode Six, which I’m sure he’ll colour with his trademark humour and candour. Doubtless we’ll get to the bottom of those leather trousers, from the 80s days, and whether he still owns a pair or two?
People will scoff ‘just and evening’ but I’m pretty sure it’ll be a worthwhile and interesting evening for Ian’s fans – he comes across brilliantly in his interviews and let’s face it – if you’re buying a ticket you’re not going as a casual curio bystander, you’re there for the details even exhaustive re-issue sleeve notes tend to miss.

July 22nd, 2026 at 19:19Was looking at gillan.com to look at some of the lyrics from Splat! Anyone else spotting that there’s a lyric there for a song called Hoot n’ Slither? And “Third Call” is missing from the lyrics – and these lyrics are not from “Third Call”
Seems something was left off the album, or maybe saved for a b-side or something?

July 22nd, 2026 at 21:07I’m sure it will be great, Ian really is a great, eloquent, highly intelligent and articulate talker…
But still I dream of a Gillan/Glover tour with some guitars to perform a dozen of songs in between stories from them. Paul Young, Francis Rossi and others are having huge success doing just that!
July 23rd, 2026 at 18:54Talking only has to and no doubt will include humour, there has to be. Otherwise you could fall asleep. Having a little ‘light’ music is on another level though and let’s face it, it is about the music after all, or the journey associated with it. I went to a Jon Anderson solo show in 2013 and it was grand. Jon isn’t a guitarist as such, but he can strum a few ‘cheap’ chords and dabble on a few on a keyboard. It was wonderful, all those songs with a little light music and the stories and humour. Roger Glover could strum a tune to two no doubt while Ian did the singing and joking etc. Glover would talk a little too, sounds like a grand plan indeed, don’t we think. I have watched online Robert Fripp with his manager David Singleton doing the chat thing, good for a little while but I find it a little boring after a while. There is good humour and wonderful stories etc, but with music, that brings it into another realm. Remembering about ten years ago Eric Idle and John Cleese toured here doing the chat thing, but as we know Eric also has a few songs up his sleeve. I read good reviews etc, the music elevated it according to many punters who attended. Always look on the bright side of life. Cheers.
