Deep Purple receive musical space shuttle remnants
At the show in Mexico City on September 23, Deep Purple were presented with remnants of CDs they gave to austronaut Kalpana Chawla for her mission on the Columbia space shuttle, which crashed on its return to earth. The three discs were presented by Chawla's husband Jean-Pierre Harrison and came with certificates of authenticity signed by NASA officials. See the photo and read the full story in our Tour Reviews.

Yesterday, the Israeli radio (Galatz) broadcast an 5 hour special about Deep Purple plus an interview with Ian Gillan and today Polish radio will also broadcast an interview with Ian. The interview will be broadcast 14.00 (CET) at Radio 94.

Deep Purple in Brazil
Deep Purple have now started their "Bananas" world tour. Last Monday, September 8, Ian Paice did a drum clinic (workshop) in Sao Paulo, Brazil (see picture) and last Wednesday, September 10, Deep Purple did a press conference, also in Sao Paulo (see picture). Tonight they do their first show on the tour, in Goiânia, Brazil. To read more about the tour, check the review section.

Yesterday, September 10, Deep Purple recorded 3 songs and a interview on a brazilian talk show called "Programa do Jô (TV Globo)" (see picture), which will be broadcasted on September 19. Ian Gillan Speaks Out
Ian Gillan took some time off and wrote a letter. Here is a few bits. 

"The picture on the back of the Bananas cover is the one (from an Australian newspaper) that was spotted by Roger Glover. He held it up and said…'that's an album cover'. I said 'It's not an album cover; it's a picture in a newspaper.'…but he was right wasn't he…well almost…"

"The closing track on Bananas, Contact Lost is with respect to the NASA mission STS-107, the crew of which were aboard the tragic final flight of the Columbia."

Roger Glover Speaks Out
Roger Glover took some time off and wrote a letter. Here is a few bits. 

"Great to meet Bonnie Tyler and have her come on stage for a few moments to sing a verse or two of Honky Tonk Women in St. Gallen. Incredible pipes!"

"We spent three very busy days in Berlin. Between us we probably did more than fifty interviews from journalists around the world, had two rehearsals where we ran through the new songs, and did an unusual, one-off gig at the Columbiahalle, debuting six songs from the album."

"There were a couple of writing sessions (although they seemed a little halfhearted with no studio time booked) but the bulk of the writing happened in over four weeks in LA, the recording was just over three weeks. I think that’s why it sounds fresh. Overall, I’m blown away with it, Michael did a great job, and I can’t wait to do it on stage…. play the songs that is!!"

Don Airey DVD
A new DVD with Don Airey will soon be released. The DVD feature a interview (done in London, August 4) about his work with Rainbow, Gary Moore, Deep Purple etc, among other things. The DVD feature also live footage and videos clips. The DVD is planned to be released during the "Bananas" tour in November.
