The return of "Concerto for group and orchestra" confirmed
The Royal Albert Hall performance of "Concerto for group and orchestra" mentioned below will happen on September 26. The concert is a charity event for Nordoff Robbins and the concert will contain guest appearances and surprises. Stay tuned to The Highway Star for information on how to get tickets etc.. We have no additional information today.

Jon Lord and/or Deep Purple to work with orchestra again?
In an interview with Jon Lord in the Luxembourg magazine "Telecran" two possible orchestra projects are mentioned. There might be a 30th anniversary performance of the "Concerto for group and orchestra" at the Royal Albert Hall in London in September. Jon also said that he is working on a score for the "Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg" which should be finished and recorded before April 2000.

Deep Purple on UK TV
There's some program on HTV in the UK on June 7th with a Purple mention...the DPAS have apparently supplied some footage. We are not 100% sure of the exact time the show will be on but it's likely to be at either 5:30 PM or 7:30 PM.

Release dates update
The Mk.I remasters has been postponed again according to EMI Sweden. All the Mk.I remasters and "Who do we think we are" will be released between September 1999 and February/March 2000.
Ice Magazine reports that Polygram will release remastered versions of "Perfect Strangers", "House of Blue Light" and "Nobody's Perfect" in the USA on June 22. "Nobody's Perfect" will be a 2CD and it will contain all the tracks that were available on different versions of the album when it first was released. All Rainbow albums will also be released in remastered versions.
The 25th anniversary editions of "Fireball" and "In Rock" will be released in the USA by Rhino Records on November 2. The albums will be $16.98 list price and they will be deluxe reissues just as "Machine Head" and "Made in Japan".

Jon Lord on tour
Jon Lords "Pictured Within" tour had a fantastic start on May 16 at the "Conservatoire De Musique" in Luxemburg. Besides Jon Lord the show features ten additional musicians, including female vocalist Sam Brown and Haagen Kuhr on Cello, who also participated on the album. The show features songs from the Jon Lord albums "Pictured Within", "Before I Forget" and "Sarabande", as well as Sam Brown solo stuff. Look for tour reviews in our "Pictured Within" section.
