June 10
Roger Glover's first studio report
On June 10 Roger Glover sent his first report from the sessions for the new Deep Purple studio album.

June 10
Live at the Olympia '96 - Release dates

Reports so far says that the new Deep Purple live album "Live at the Olympia '96" was released on June 9 in Germany and Belgium. EMI Sweden still claims it should have been out on June 9, EMI Norway says June 16 and EMI UK says June 23. Keep your eyes open.

MH25 - EMI Album of the Month, August 1997
EMI Norway has said that MH25 will be "the album of the month" for EMI in Norway in August, and will get a big push!

Simon Robinson talks about MH25
Stathis Panagiotopoulos of DPAS Greece talked to Simon Robinson on May 24 and reports:
Had a looong chat with Simon this afternoon. Among other things, he told me that MH 25 will probably be out in August. Roger went crazy with it, and remixed the whole thing, plus he left some tracks not to fade out, but to end as they had ended in the studio (as was the case with Black Night on DPiR25), and one of the tracks that will have elements of the quad mixes will be ...Blindman Cries. It's almost certain to be a double CD.

The new Deep Purple studio album
Colin Hart showed up at one of the Steve Morse Band gigs in the US recently and told one DP fan that Deep Purple will meet up again on May 15 and start recording for the new studio album on May 25 or 26. Colin also said the new live album (see below) will be out "in a few weeks". No confirmation from EMI on that yet.

Deep Purple - New releases 1997/98
Colin Hart, Deep Purple's tour manager posted the following message to alt.music.deep-purple;

Date: 17 Mar 1997 22:10:37 GMT

Hello all.

recent tours, (Steve Morse) and would like
them considered for inclusion on an upcoming
album, please submit them to the office address
below.
These photos are NOT RETURNABLE, and if you
include your name on the back of each shot,
you will be credited if the photos are used.
All shots would be considered, candid, live,
after show etc.
Send to:
Thames Talent Ltd.
45 E. Putnam Avenue,
Greenwich,
CT. 06830.
USA.
Thank you.
Colin Hart.  D.P.

The pictures Colin is asking for are probably going to be used for a new live album to be released in 1997. Roger Glover again:

Did Thames Talent get a lot of photos for the live CD?
- Photos, tons of 'em.

Then, on May 6, Colin Hart posted this to alt.music.deep-purple:
Newsgroups: alt.music.deep-purple
Subject: Deep Purple Photos
From: (CHDP)
Date: 6 May 1997 16:26:37 GMT

Thank you all for the overwhelming response
to our request for photographs. However, we
have more than we need for now, so please
don't send any more until we post again.
Thanks from D.P. and Management.
Colin.

Micke Eriksson of the Swedish DPAS called EMI Sweden to hear what we could expect from Deep Purple in the future. The info he got was that there will be five new Deep Purple releases in 1997/98;

Deep Purple Live In Paris 1996 (Release date June 6, 1997)
Recorded at the Olympia in Paris on June 17, 1996. The band was joined on stage by a three piece horn section on some of the songs. We don't know if these songs are going to be on the record or if the record will be a single or double CD. Read Garry Smith's review of the show.
EMI said that there will not be much promotion for this album and that they see it as a "gift to the Deep Purple fans".
Machine Head 25th aniv. edition (no release date avail.)
The extra tracks on this one will probably be When a Blind Man Cries and some alternative mixes from the quad version of the original album. These quad tracks have some different solos etc.
Made In Japan (no release date avail.)
No word on if this is the 25th. anniv. version or not but I guess it is. No info on bonus track etc.
Who Do We Think We Are (Release date February 1998)
No word on if this is the 25th. anniv. version or not but I guess it is. No info on bonus track etc.
The New Studio Album (Release date early 1998)
Not much info on this yet. The band goes into the studio after a short break following the South American Tour. I guess the album should be out sometime early 1998. Which sounds like it would come out at the same time as WDWTWA and that sounds kind of stupid. Or something. Don't ask me, I'm not in the record business...

So... Five (at least) new albums in 1997/98. Anyone complaining? I'm not. I have to add that this is info from EMI Sweden. As Purple not are signed with EMI in the US all the info above may not be true for the US market. All dates etc. are for the European market.

Big thanks to Micke Eriksson (DPAS Sweden) and Stathis N. Panagiotopoulos (DPAS Greece and DPWWW crew).
