In memory of Janine Morse

Steve Morse and Janine

Steve Morse writes in his website:

Yesterday, February 4, at 2:40pm, I said my last goodbye to my beloved wife, Janine. We had been in a period of remission which lasted not nearly long enough. But luckily, I was able to spend virtually every day with her as she found workarounds to get through some of the aftermath of the long chemo treatment. But we did travel and do things, and were enjoying life with both of us cherishing every moment. Deep down, we knew that any day, we could get the news.

Some of you knew her, as she would sell shirts at my trio (Steve Morse Band) gigs, and she loved to travel and meet everyone. If anybody happens to read this who got their picture with Janine and I a few weeks ago at the Kansas concert in Clearwater, you have a photo of the last show she ever went to, and I’d love to see that shot if you could post it.

Read Steve’s heartfelt eulogy to his wife in full on stevemorse.com.

We extend our most sincere condolences to Steve and his family.

“Cherish those around you, and let them know”.
It’s often said “live life like it’s your last day”. But very recently I heard it expressed slightly differently, “like life like it’s your loved ones last day”, and I guess this is exactly what Steve did.
Condolences to Steve, his family and friends. RIP Janine.

I hope that the members of Deep Purple will have contacted Steve privately, as I am sure Steve would have been in contact with Ian Gillan when his wife died recently.

I am writing here for the first time today, but I have been following this website for as long as it has existed. I’ve been a Deep Purple fan since I was 12 years old. Today I’m almost 52. Steve Morse was the big discovery for me as a guitarist in the 90s. He is incredible and above all a fine human being! When you’ve seen these people live in concert so often and adore their music, it’s as if they’re old friends. So I’m terribly sorry for Steve that he had to go through so much suffering with his wife and ultimately lost her. Hopefully the music can help him get over the loss!

    Nino says:

It’s a pity, although we all knew that this would happen, but we hoped that it would happen as late as possible. My condolences, mr. Morse.

Incredibly sad news. I salute Steve for putting his wife first, even though I absolutely detested the idea of him leaving Purple. But it was the right decision, and it sounds like he and Janine made wonderful memories right up to the end. My sincerest condolences to you, Steve, as you mourn her passing but celebrate her life. Remember and treasure the good life you shared.

Janine couldn’t have asked for a better husband. And Steve’s decision to care for her and leave touring life with DP behind was of role model nature.

I’m hoping for a gentle healing process. Steve has a positive outlook on life which should help him pull through.

My sincere condolences to Steve, his immediate family, and his loved ones.
I was fortunate enough to meet Janine after Deep Purple’s February 2, 1998, show at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, AZ.
We were backstage chatting with Steve, Roger, and little Ian. Janine came over with a friend and introduced herself. Not only was it my first time ever seeing my all-time favorite band live, but there I was…hanging out into the wee hours with some of my heroes.
As one can imagine, the whole experience can be somewhat jittery, but Janine’s presence made me feel calm and at ease. I still remember how polite and friendly Janine was; she came across as truly genuine and down to earth.
I have found Steve to be the same way in my numerous encounters with him over the years, and I was sad when I read the announcement of his departure from my favorite band. However, I understood, respected, and appreciated his decision to put family first. It was clearly the right call.
I am truly sorry for your loss, Steve. May Janine Rest in Peace.

    Ondok Patrik says:

Do not stand by my grave, and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am the thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle, autumn rain.
As you awake with morning’s hush,
I am the swift, up-flinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the day transcending night.
Do not stand by my grave, and cry—
I am not there, I did not die.

It is with great sadness that I type this message to the Morse family. I never knew Janine, but have been a fan of Steve for decades. It is my prayer that Janine has trusted in the shed blood of Jesus the Christ for eternal life. I hope to meet her when I get to Heaven. I moved to Ocala in May last year and if I can be of service to the Morse family in any way I would be honored to hear from you. God Bless Circle24/7 where she served for many years.
