It all started with an empty email

Last Rainbow vocalist Ronnie Romero appeared on The Classic Rock Podcast talking about how did he find himself fronting the legendary band, the prospects of performing with Blackmore again (spoiler: not good), and his recent solo album Raised on Heavy Radio. Romero’s interview segment starts at around 11:16 into the podcast.

Thanks to Tim Caple for the heads-up.

Frankly, I think that Ronnie R does a better Phil Mogg than he ever did a Ronnie D, Graham Bonnet, JOLT, Gillan or Coverdale.

He’s also grown in stature as a front man (less is sometimes more) and seems to me a better fit with MSG.

For a real Rainbow revitalization, Ritchie would have to spend about six months getting back into a heavy rock shape and hire first class musicians with heavy rock experience and understanding to back him and undergo a tasking rehearsal scheme. At this point in his life, I do not think that he wants to spend that much time and that much money on a project of limited commercial appeal nor would he want to spent another six months on the road touring it to make it economically viable.

So it’s better to lay Rainbow to rest permanently. And Ronnie Romero should perhaps join a band with people his age playing new music rather than becoming everybody’s favorite heavy metal wedding singer doing impressions of the old hits. I’m waiting for an album of his where he finally sings Spanish, his mother tongue.

Yo, Ronnie “should” pursue whatever he chooses, & if making-a-living fronting bands that have semi-retired (or have no-longer-with-us front-men), so-be-it…Better than a hologram imo.

Yes, the time has come to move-on, & step-up, before my 1st paragraph becomes what’s expected of him. He’s had the opportunity, now’s the time to take advantage of the door that swung open. But as anyone will say, running & managing any band is quite a handful, & at the moment, he’s comfortably filling-in-shoes, & without all the hassle.

    Peace !

Yes Ronnie Romero could sing Flamenco & no doubt probably has. He has to make a living though, so to be a guest musician for a few known artists isn’t a bad thing at all. Good luck to him & even though I don’t listen to what he does with other artists, no doubt he does do it with conviction & passion etc. Cheers.

It’s not like Spanish and rock don’t mix.

I’d love to hear Señor Romero do something like this. He could really shine with his pipes.

I was thinking of more traditional Flamenco, get away from the rock band thing. Cheers.
