Bass bonanza

In the spirit of celebrating the 40th anniversary of machine Head, we present you with this gem: Highway Star and Smoke on the Water performed by an octet of double basses aptly named Octobass.

Thanks to almiramarante for the video and to Andrey Gusenkov for bringing it to your attention.

I always receive with pleasure any quality performance of this memorable piece (in particular that from a chinese or so traditional band posted here few time ago), also never thought that this piece woold make famous so many people just for playing it to a crowd,

Musically, these two renditions of the great DP tracks are the worse sounds to have hit my ears in ages, but also the funniest! Thanks to Andrey and Octobass, I will be passing this on.

It’s that Phrygian mode (I’m told) that excites them: the change from C to Aflat in the chorus.
