The new album

Scoot asked in my “MTV” post yesterday if I had heard the album. Yes, I have heard the new CD one and a half times. One time by my computer on very low volume last night, and one half time this morning while I was having breakfast. The first impression is pretty much as when I heard two minute excerpts from eight of the songs earlier in the week. It’s a good album straight through with no fillers. But I think it’s a bit too early for a review. I’m just about to go out on a walk through town with the album in my iPod. We’ll see what that does to impressions of the new masterpiece.

What is the difference between limited edition from standard one? The former costs only 1 pound more than the latter in amazon UK. (If you chose to pre-order an limited ed. cd in amazon UK, you can find that the cost changes to that of standard one at the check-out page. It kills me now…)

The limited edition contains the extra track “MTV” and an enhanced video track, probably an interview. It also comes in a tin box. It is worth the extra pound IMO since “MTV” is the best track on the album. But I haven’t heard the Japanese bonus track yet, maybe that’s even better…

We have asked the record company for permission to put up soundclips. You can be sure that we will do that as soon as we are allowed to do so.

Anybody heard about “The Tantalus syndrome”? Check out your mythology…
Freely translated in a cvontext coloured PURPLE it means : Being annoyed by the facts :
    1) Deep Purple now is NOT Deep Purple, because of the emission of Lordy and Blackers.
    2) Ritchie himself keeps paining me with his Yoko Ono act.
    3) They never play the songs they ought to, espescially on stage. NO PLACE IN LINE, SMOOTH DANCER, DEAD OR ALIVE, THE UNWRITTEN LAW, BIRD HAS FLOWN, THE BATTLE RAGES ON, SOLITAIRE, ENYA !!!
    4) They have left the DEEP PURPLE FORMAT ALLREADY IN 1985. GILLAN : “THE OLD WAY OF DOING LONG LIVE EXTENDED SONGS(deep purple format) IS DATED AND WILL NOT BE OUR WAY…..”
    AND SO THE TORTURE BEGAN….

ALTHOUGH I MUST ADMIT WITHOUT Ritchie it makes no sense anyway, that’s true. The real DP magic lies in the improvisation of Ritchie, Jon and Ian Paice.
Steves sound kills/pains me. It’s fucking annoying.
Blackmore…please have mercy on my soul and come back!!!

Just like to say that I CAN wait for the official release. Not a problem! I’m happy it’s only been two years since the last album (and not five, this time…). I don’t need to hear soundclips already today (or yesterday), but I do hope the album will be a good one. That’s what matters to me!
And to me, any mark is Deep Purple. I miss Lord, and I miss Blackers, but even more I would miss the band if they’d put it to rest for good! The band has always changed both personell and musical direction, and as long as they keep on rockin’ I’m a happy fan!

As Far As I’ve Heard, I would say that ROTD is, by far, the best DP album of the Steve Morse era. Much better than Abandon and Bananas. IMHO, it still lacks something “wild” in the guitar approach… No doubt, SM is a virtuose guitar player, but too wise for my taste… Don Airey does a tremendous job in his Jon Lord cloning, and IG is The Absolute Star of the record. I like very much the way he manage his “mature voice”. The songs are clever, something is always happening. No filler. I’m also VERY disappointed with that awful cover but you’ve just got to close your eyes and enjoy the SONGS…

Does anyone know why Edel still says that Junkyard Blues is the bonustrack for Japan on their website? There´s also not a word about MTV or Things I Never Said on the site…

    It’s a mistake, that’s all.
