Patch reviews the Deep Purple gig in Chicago from August 25, 2026:
There are concert pairings that make perfect sense on paper, and then there are pairings that make even more sense once the music starts. Deep Purple and Kansas at Ravinia’s Hunter Pavilion was definitely the latter.
On Tuesday night, two legendary bands separated by an ocean but connected by a love of sophisticated, muscular rock delivered a night that was as much a celebration of musicianship as it was of classic-rock nostalgia. And in Ravinia’s newly renovated Hunter Pavilion, the sound was nothing short of spectacular.

Unauthorized copying, while sometimes necessary, is never as good as the real thing
Good writing skills in that article, although the amount of space allotted by the editors for it obviously prevented the kind of song details and background information connoissieurs of the Purple sound crave. It’s quality rock and roll, no matter how you slice it. Simon McBride and Steve Morse both received Ritchie Blackmore’s endorsements and the Man in Black has said he’s highly impressed with McBride’s guitar work. He has the speed and precision but also respects space between the notes. I thought “Splatter!” was Airey’s best album work, overall, since he’s been with Purple.

Of the 3 Canadian shows I’ve seen on this tour, Montreal and Toronto were close to capacity, while Ottawa had a fair number of empty seats. That being said, in Ottawa they were booked into a venue bigger than Montreal’s, with the market size probably a quarter of the latter.
