Classic Rock magazine celebrates what they call 60 years of Deep Purple in issue 96 of their Platinum Series. It is out on August 13, 2026, and can be ordered through newsstand.co.uk.

Purple were never the most handsome band. but they weren’t a bunch of uglies either. For some reason – probably the glasses – I always thought Little Ian looked the smartest in a cerebral way. With most drummers, you can tell at first sight why God handed them the sticks. 😈

So, didnt buy it cause most things I read before, not totally sure, and pics as well.
Great pics from sessions that ofcourse were filled with many slightly differing shots.
Still, I wondered if its possible that they slightly altered the originals to avoid paying for it?
Is AI not a weird zone in which that is possible?
FIREBALL I always associate with a certain poster, I way back hunted for at the markets in the place I went to highschool.
It was taken from a series of shots and gave us the Jon Lord Fireballbeard.
I do recall the clothing etc from seperate close ups in an article I chose to cut out only the pics, stupid, so dont know the date.

Went back to the shop where I confronted the big bald owner with saying wth:
I succumb to an old addiction and buy this mag anyway!
Its a bit like buying stuff in a supermarket, geeling lonely and depressed, no real hunger but feeling hollow.
Went back home and tried to read the mag with one of the new recently acquired new spectacles.
I had trouble ,even with the one meant for reading.
Then I prompted myself to read, feeling annoyed to see a big picture duplicated.
Oh well, I might remember this moment a next time when I m wasting my money.
Same ought to apply to buying wine, I stopped AGAIN early 24 and recently I shrugged my shoulders and started telling me 1 bottle a week is not a suicide.
Should try AGAIN eating healthier. Before I reincarnate as a meatfilled pizza.

September 4th, 2026 at 13:51Sat in the KLM lounge in schipol having just purchased and read. If you have read classic rock magazine for any length of time you won’t find much new as it’s basically a compilation of previous articles over the years. Still, it’s great fun luxuriating in a biographical bath of your favourite band and there’s a loaf of pictures I’ve never seen before. Cheaper than Ira Blackers book and much better value.

From my memory, Led Zep got in the 70s far worse reviews in Rolling Stone Magazine than Deep Purple. Zep were seeen as pretentious and overblown, Deep Purple just as a little dumb and predictable, but reliably competent, sort of Foghat with keyboards. Rolling Stone even liked Come Taste the Band! Rolling Stone slaughtered Kashmir, calling it an endless vanity slop wasting a whole side of Physical Graffiti.

September 7th, 2026 at 03:45That‘s the irony, overall CTTB received good reviews by the press at the time, yet most fans initially were repulsed. I didn‘t like it at first listen either, it sounded so different to the 15-year-old I was, much preferring the more familiar sound of the Rainbow debut. But that turned around after only a few weeks. CTTB sounded so boisterous, it just grabbed you after a while, notwithstanding a very American sounding guitarist with none of Ritchie‘s brooding Yuropean elegiac darkness. By the time Rising came out, CTTB had the pole position with me and has retained it ever since, it is still one of my top three DP albums alongside MH and Burn.
To tell the truth, I was probably also somewhat visually impressed because German TV ran parts of the 1975 Budokan gig in 1976 and I really liked the way Tommy looked and moved as well as the rapport he enjoyed with Glenn on stage. That swayed a lot of people at the time, Tommy was something to behold.
