Nick Simper concert in Austria

Nick Simper and his band The Good Old Boys make their first(?) trip outside the UK in September when they go to Austria to play the Planet Music Club in Vienna on September 9. Don’t go there expecting any Deep Purple Mk. I songs though. This band is about even older rock classics. A track list from a show in the UK in August last year looked like this:

Hound Dog
Fool For Your Stockings
Rock’n’Roll
Lucille
Everything I Learned ’bout The Blues
25 Rock
Back To Louisiana
Be Bop A Lu La
Dead End Station
I’m Ready
She’s Crazy As Me
Blues
Hideaway

Ian Gillan Interview

The current issue of the German magazine “Heavy” (Number 91), has a one page interview with Ian Gillan about “Gillan’s Inn”.

Ian Gillan DVD – Update

The upcoming DVD with Ian Gillan is a two-and-a-half hour documentary, full of music, lost archive footage, tales from Ian Gillan and interviews from members of Deep Purple (both past and present). It features Tony Iommi, Joe Satriani, Joe Elliot, Ronnie James Dio, Luciano Pavarotti, Jon Lord, Colin Towns, Sir Tim Rice, the late, George Best and many others. It’s filmed in Russia, England, Ireland, Wales and Italy. The “Smoke On The Water” story is filmed in Montreux, Switzerland.

On top of that, there’s another documentary made by Ian himself. He spent three years travelling around the globe with Deep Purple with his own camera. Then there’s the music extras, filmed during the Bananas tour. Enhanced by more archive footage of the Gillan band in action (never released on Video or DVD) and Ian on stage with Pavarotti. The music extras run to around an hour.

And there’s more. Even with the main documentary running at two-and-a-half hours, some of the best anecdotes and stories were still falling to the cutting room floor. So the best of the rest got compiled into mini-docs, some of which relate to chapters in the main film, others of which form their own sections.

There is also another complete documentary: “Ian Gillan on Tour with Deep Purple”. It’s an up-close and personal film of Ian Gillan touring with Deep Purple. It’s filmed both on-stage and off, during Deep Purple’s tour in Russia and the UK. It’s filmed at the parties, on the tour bus, in the dressing rooms and on stage with Ian and the rest of the band. That tour documentary currently runs at around two hours.

The plan is to release a triple-disc edition only over the internet, a double-disc edition available at concerts and a single-disc available in shops.

Thanks to Craig Hooper and CoolHead Productions for the info.
