Radio London claimed last week that the “original Deep Purple lineup” would reunite later this year for three shows at London’s O2 Arena. The news were made public on Danny Baker’s show and the were widely understood as a MkII reunion announcement. Not surprisingly, this started the whole whirlpool of rumours on and off the ‘net. Blackmore’s management quickly responded to the rumours by saying, “It is not happening and it is not going to happen.” So there you have it.

Never underestimate the commercial appeal of a well promoted rock’n’roll with cocky lyrics!

Ian Paice will be a special guest at the 2008 Rock Legends Adventure to be held in Cologne, Germany, on May 21-25. Other announced participants in the extended family are Pete York and Miller Anderson.
The Rock Legends Adventure is the kind of event where amateur musucians and fans get a chance to practice, jam, perform on stage or simply hang around professional musicians. Since Ian is announced as a “special guest” and not a full participant, we can only presume that he will appear only at the final concert on Day 4 (May 24th) at E-Werk Köln. Tickets for that show are available at €29.60 from koelnticket.de.

Deep Purple’s performance headlining the 40th Montreux Jazz Festival is coming to a big screen near you. That is, if you live in certain states. On April 28th a company called The Bigger Picture will be showing two concerts in select movie theaters across the United States. Alongside with Montreux’2006 (which was shot in high definition), Queen Live in Montreal’81 will get the red carpet treatment.
You can find a location near you at TheBiggerPicture.us.

As many of you probably know by now, Don Airey’s latest non-DP project, A Light In The Sky was released a short while ago. What you may not be aware of is that The Highway Star has a feature on it, which we hope to add material to in the near future.
One of those things is a Q&A with Don about it, so if you have questions you would like to have answers for, let us know what they are. We’ll include the best ones with the ones we have for him, and then publish his responses in the feature.
We’re also interested in your reviews of the recording — if they’re more than a few lines, please email them to me directly (at editorinchief@thehighwaystar.com) rather than posting them as very long comments.

Ian Gillan will be among the artists paying tribute to the late Jeff Healey at the first of the two memorial concerts in Toronto on May 3. This first show, on May 3, will focus on Healey’s contribution to blues and rock and will feature Jack Bruce, Randy Bachman, Colin James, Alannah Myles and Healey’s backup band, Jazz Wizards, alongside with Gillan. The second show on May 4 will be dedicated to the jazzier side of the multitalented musician.
Proceeds from the shows will go to the Healey Family Trust and to Daisy’s Eye Cancer Fund, a charity that assists the families of children with retinoblastoma, the rare cancer that claimed Healey’s sight when he was one year old.
Tickets for both events go on sale this Friday, April 11.
