Things we never heard

Another track from the upcoming remixed version of Rapture of the Deep has been released.

Things I Never Said:

[Update Aug 1] We are being told that availability of the clip varies by some silly pretexts. Here’s another try if the above one doesn’t work:

Thanks to Uwe for the update.

Excelente mezcla…y pensar q este tema fue bonus track…qué lujo

I purchased the remix. To me, the music was terrific on that album but the production was so-so; and the packaging was abysmal. However, I loved the cover art and concept. Gillan’s vocals are really creative on this LP.

    Mike Nagoda says:

Roger removed the buildup of Ian’s backing vocals in the choruses????? Why?!! They’re the best part of the tune!

I will say that I think the drums are too loud in all these remixes – I feel Ian is overpowering Steve and Don the more I listen to them. That said, the clarity is unmatched!

    Fab says:

Of course I love this album, the first where Don got fully involved. He’s the man who brought the basis of the title track.
Regarding THINGS, I was so surprised to find that song in their setlist! At that time it was just released on the Japan edition! I had the chance to ask Roger why they took the decision to put THINGS in the setlist (in the second position moreover) but I didn’t get a proper answer… Certainly they like the song and its live rendition. But it the guys love the song so much why didn’t they put it on the regular version of the album??
And the lyrics…. Great lyrics! Do you all know what it is about?

    Lukasz says:

Oh, it makes me wonder…how the original mix was allowed to happen. Everything was thrown to the middle and no instrument had space to breathe. Now you can hear every nuance of Steve’s and Don’s rhythm playing, the synths in Don’s solo came up to the front and you can finally hear what he was trying to do there. Ian’s harmonies were removed, which is a shame, but on the other hand it adds to the live feel of the song. Drum sound is still the weakest part of the album imo, very muffled, sometimes they sound as if Ian was playing on cardboard boxes – maybe there was nothing that could be done about it. All in all this remix makes me think of buying this release. I still think that since the Machine Head remix, Dweezil Zappa should be hired to do all of them.

This song should’ve made the original album. I like it better than Girls Like That or MTV.

Amen, Lukasz, that remix was a piece of art.

Amen II, Michael. Though TINS is pretty much your standard Purple romp in a shuffle rhythm, the type of thing they write while one of them is off to the loo. Sort of like this:

I do miss the double tracked vocals – very 70/ – on the remix too.

Any specific reason we don’t have a link to the song that works in Europe , liebe Admins? 😑 Let’s try this then …

Can’t wait to hear Before Time Began – one of my all-time favorite Deep Purple songs, the philosophical, epic poem. I wish they played it live.

    David Black says:

@8 Played 39 times live in early 2006. It’s on a few bootlegs-The Astoria set is a good one.

    Podzilla says:

Brilliant, finally you can hear the drums like the should be. The original drum sound was actually awful, a bit like Ringo on the white album. The doubled vocals are in fact missing, they gave a special touch to the song, but I love that version. Sounds echt and fresh.

    Podzilla says:

    Sorry for that autocorrect thingy.

    Fdr says:

They did! In 2006, early dates of the Rapture tour.

    @4

Fab, I’d like to know your interpretation of that lyric.

Why it was in the set? I guess IG liked it and they needed an uptempo number. On the 2003 tour they even picked I’m alone for their set – not really a major hit either….

    Stathis says:

@8 They did, during the 2006 tour.

    Steve says:

    I think I prefer the original 🤔
Although, I do prefer the solos in this …but, overall, it sounds to me like a rehearsal in the studio ….just my own personal opinion.

    I’m still buying the remix though …even though I see it’s over 20 quid ! Why ??

    Rob says:

Well, Was hoping it to be better…. Miss the backing vocals (a lot) Not a real inprovement. Well, I add the backing vocals myself, lol. Enough tools to do that

    Micke says:

Extremely boring solo section.. oh oh

    Fla76 says:

    #17 Micke:

I totally agree, a song with solos heard other times in the discography with Morse/Airey and yet another rock’n’roll song without a trace of hard rock or an initial riff…..

I don’t understand how one can appreciate a piece like this.

paradoxically if it was a Gillan solo song on Eye to Morocco, softly arranged without solos it would be a beautiful song
