Smoke to enter Grammy Hall Of Fame

Smoke on the Water (the single) will be added next year to the Grammy Hall Of Fame. This particular hall is run by The Recording Academy (the same people responsible for the Grammies), and aims at “honoring both single and album recordings of all genres of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old”.

Recordings continue to be reviewed annually by a special member committee comprised of eminent and knowledgeable professionals from all branches of the recording arts, with final approval by The Academy’s Board of Trustees. Commemorative certificates are then awarded to recipients.

The next Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Thanks to Blabbermouth for the info.

Yet another hall of fame…. sigh.

    MacGregor says:

Better late than never, not that anyone would have been holding their breathe. I also prefer the unedited version, but the single still is a
classic! On a lighter note, I never realised mobile phones with a recording app existed way back in the dark ages! Cheers

    Philippe Pomiès says:

    Un great song…

  4. 4
    Marcus Streets says:

Recognized as being as brilliant as “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas”

Though it will sit in between “Sketches of Spain” and “Smokestack Lightening” – if you ignore “Smells like Teen Spirit”

@2 MacGregor, oh, so you don’t know about the time travelers then?. I’ve seen them on the internet… people in 100 year old photos & films using cell phones & the like!. 😉

    MacGregor says:

Blackwood Richmore@ 5 – yes I have noticed them at times, lurking in the background! I always thought they were from the Ludddite era, maybe that was before. That can be one of the many problems with time travelling, not knowing exactly where you are going, or where you are coming from! Cheers.

Blackwood Richmore – I suppose the lyrics could have gone like this:
“We all came out to Montreux,
    On the Lake Geneva shoreline.
To make records with a tablet, we had the means & had the sound”,
But then some may get confused thinking, a tablet? How can you make a record on a tablet, a small medicinal form of a substance to digest for treatment of an ailment? Best remain with mobile me thinks!
The perils of being at home unable to work because of my hand injury! Bored, yes indeed. Some folks here may think I could make better use of my time, but they don’t HAVE to read it! A soon as they see my name, they could discipline themselves to avoid the temptation! Cheers.

@7 MacGregor, I’m tempted to inquire as to the nature of the injury… but nevermind, I hope your injury is on the mend & feeling better. Try & get a prescription for Tramadol 100’s from your GP. They are non-addictive & take away the aches & pains. They make me feel 10 years younger!. The other ‘illegal stuff’ is just a waste of time & money IMHO. Smiles to ya.

Blackwood Richmore @ 8 – nerve & ligament bruising, on the mend now thankfully, frustrating as I have just started out all new gardening jobs on a few properties. Anyway, now I am back to 2 handed (albeit one finger on each hand) typing again. So look out, my deep & meaningful, philosophical, spiritual & cryptic rantings are about to increase again. More importantly, I can now return to shaking two clenched fists at the monitor, while I am reading comments here at THS. Ha!
All good & thanks for comments, Cheers.

Yeah, we all know Smoke On The Water… the original was always the best!. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqQ2NGWRbvU

Laugh?, I almost cried!. Smiles to ya.
