JLT will be “celebrity face” for a festival

Joe Lynn Turner’s management has issued the following press release:

While vacationing in Antayla, Turkey this summer, some Turkish businesspeople approached Joe Lynn Turner with the idea of presenting a major rock music festival in or near the city sometime in 2011. Turner agreed that this was a great concept.

While the festival is only in the “idea stage” at this time, Joe helped lay the groundwork for it by visiting with Mayor Mustafa Akaydin of Antalya. Akaydin said that the municipality should support the organization of such a festival. He stated, “Famous artists coming to the city will favorably promote both Turkey and the city. We already stage events to boost the city’s cultural and artistic reputation. It will make us very happy to do this.”

“Antalya is a ‘Gold Coast’ of international holiday destinations,” says Turner, “They have over 300 five star resorts in or near the area and are still building. Over 32 nations come here for vacations so this region seems like a great fit for a large scale music festival.”

He explains that the event would feature a mix of international and Turkish rock musicians. Although there is no definite date yet, Turner mentioned the possibility of holding the festival in May 2011. Joe describes his role as “The celebrity face of the project, working with government and sponsors. This will be a very big project and the work will be hard but worth the effort. We hope it is a big success! We have government support and the sponsors will give full support as well!”

Major international artists and/or companies interested in participating in or contributing to in this festival should email Joe Lynn Turner’s Executive Assistant, Lisa Walker.

JLT has celebrated his birthday (August 2nd) this year with a performance in St.Petersburg, Russia:

And now, Ladys and Gentleman, we have to do a little promotion (or should I say commercials) for the Turkey – Gold Coast – Antalya …

… and for the Festival …

How can one call a ROCK musician and Rocker&Roller to the man, who describes himself as a “celebrity face” and is going to “work with government”. Should this be called a ROCK attitude? don’t get me wrong. Is that really this Joe Lynn Turner who once was choosen by DEEP PURPLE for fronting the band? DO NOT want to believe that.

I’m also not the huge JLT fan, even though he has several good tunes in Rainbow, it’s just his pop look that doesn’t suit me.. Though he can still sing very good. But, if his “work with government” is anti-rocker stuff, then what to say about IG cabaret show in Kremlin, what to say about IG wandering eastern countries looking for “government admiration and support” on any occasion he gets.. Come on, let us be realistic – it’s only Ritchie and Jon that can allow themselves to live purely out of their musical talent, the rest are earning money on Ritchie’s riffs and old Jon tunes and not choosing the way or “the government” that they dealing with. So it’s nice to visit Antalya or Moscow, there’s a lot of beautiful places everywhere.

Joe can do whatever he likes.

But it worries me that he plays certain songs WITHOUT OTR.

I m afraid that project is not coming to life as I hoped for.

Btw, one can say whatever about his performance but….
They can BOTH sing and SHE has hot legs as well!!!!

What does looks have to do with the guys talent? I like Judiest Priest. Their front man looks like Freddy Krugar…who cares, he can belt out some great tunes. Same can be said about Cheap Trick…their axe man looked like a birthday clown. However, they have their place etched in hair band heaven. That said, hard to argue JLT’s album w/DP was the best since 1984 reunion. Thanks.

    HZ,
you misinterpret the things. Though I was HIGHLY critical to Gillan and co when they played in Kremlin, this particular gig can not be described as “working with government” but as “playing for fans [even if the fan is the President]”.
What about Gillan receiving a medal of honor by the president of Armenia, it was NOT “working with Government”, because Gillan & Iommi received this Medal just for what they did in 1990 – helping tens of thousands people who were left homeless and died after the giant earthquake in Armenia. it was just a charity act, not “working with government”, but “helping homeless and poor people”.

What about organizing ROCK festival in work with Government, is one of the most stupid decisions one could ever imagine and makes me simply to laugh. “If I don’t have enough talent to make money by music, then I should be businessman” – this is what JLT thinks.

What about RB and JL as the legacy of Deep Purple, I have said thousands of times that it was neither Ritchie, nor Lord, nor Gillan, nor Paice or anyone else who made Deep Purple what it is. This is Ritchie’s riffs, Lord’s organ, Gillan’s screams, Glover’s and Paice’s sections – COMBINED TOGETHER – that made DEEP PURPLE what it is – not one particular member, but the BAND!
    Who cares about Lord’s stealen

    George says:

Who cares about Lord’s stolen organ solo on Child In Time if there was not Gillan’s scream on it?
Who cares about Ritchie’s solo on Child In Time if there was not Gillan’s scream on it?
Who cares about Gillan’s harmonica playing if there was no Lord’s solo on Lazy?
Who cares about Glover’s parts on Space Trucking (MIJ version) if there was no Ian Paice on drums?
Who cares about Gillan’s singing on Butterfly Ball if there was no Roger Glover as a compositor???

DEEP PURPLE is such a great band that it CAN NOT BE reviewed partly, by it’s members’ contributions. It is THE BAND, contributed by GREAT musicians, altogether, not partly. DEEP PURPLE LEGACY belongs to all the members which have been part of the band, especially MKII, altogether.

    HZ says:

Well George, I disagree fundamentally, but who cares. JLT is celebrity for those people, just like IG used the fact that Medvedev was DP fan and took some money on that, because he’s celebrity for Medvedev. Every machine has an engine, and DP’s is gone for a long time.

    George says:

HZ, don’t even compare JLT to IG, please

  10. 10
    HZ says:

Why not? They are doing pretty much same thing nowadays. If you ask me who I prefer as singer, well IG, but 30 years ago – he’s my all time favorite. Today I don’t find that he can sing at all, which is nothing but natural. Hughes is freak of the nature, from the other side, he can still sing pretty much in same way like before. JLT isn’t bad, and IG is totally gone. Well that’s fact.

    @ You nailed it, Priest.

    Please people, drop the
cliches ’bout looks, attitude, celebrity-issues etc. childish nonsense…who the fuck cares, as long as they’re delivering the goods, and vocally Joe certainly is. Now that’s what it’s all about!!!

    Take care everyone, cheers

OTR was never going to be a winner. Tribute acts just dont have the same impact.

It seems he continues to pursue the ‘tribute act’ performance with and without OTR.

WELL, I WANNA ASK YOU SOME QUESTIONS GUYS:
1: HOW MANY GUYS CAN SING JUST LIKE JOE LYNN TURNER IN THE WORLD?….30?…40?
2: CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT HE SHOULD SAY TO THE PEOPLE WHO ASKED HIM HELP ABOUT ORGANIZING A VERY BIG ROCK FEST IN TURKEY?….NO?…
3: HOW MANY ROCK STARS (DOESNT MATTER OLD OR NEW) PERSONALLY GIVE EFFORT FOR A FESTIVAL IN AN ASIAN COUNTRY?…AND ISN’T HE A CELEBRITY?…IS HE JUST A GUY FROM YOUR TOWN OR IS HE A GREAT SINGER WHO IS KNOWN BY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ALL AROUND THE WORLD? (IF YOU’RE THINKING THAT HE IS NOT A GREAT SINGER THEN YOU SHOULD BE MORE GENIOUS THAN BLACKMORE OR MALMSTEEN, ETC ETC).
    4. WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM WITH DEEP PURPLE AND JOE LYNN TURNER? THESE ARE ENGLISH GUYS WHO HAVE ENGLISH CULTURE AND WHO KNOW EACHOTHER FOR MANY YEARS…BUT JOE WAS THE ONLY AMERICAN INSIDE THE GROUP AND HE WAS ALWAYS ALONE…IN SPITE OF HIS TALENT…
5: AND THE LAST THING: THE BIGGEST CRITICISM FROM THE GUYS OF DEEP PURPLE WAS THAT JOE HAD AN AMERICAN POP CULTURE WHICH THEY DIDNT THINK WAS APROPRIATE FOR DP…BUT SADLY BECAUSE THEY COULDN’T REFRESH AND IMPROVE THEMSELVES, THEY STUCK ON THE 70’S AND THEY COULD NEVER CREATE GOOD SONGS FOR MAYBE 30 YEARS…IF THEY WERE STILL WITH JLT, THEY WOULD MOST PROBABLY HAVE MADE MUCH MORE GREAT HITS DURING THE PAST 30 YEARS….BECAUSE JLT WAS MUCH MORE OPEN FOR MUSICAL PROGRESS IN THE WORLD OF ROCK……..
6: LET ME TELL YOU IF YOU DON’T KNOW, YOU CAN NOT ORGANIZE A BIG ROCK FESTIVAL WITHOUT THE HELP OF THE GOVERNMENT IN ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD…LIKE ASSIGNING THE PUBLIC AREA FOR THE FESTIVAL, LEGAL PERMISSIONS FROM POLICE DEPARTMENTS, PERMISSIONS FROM LOCAL GOVERNMENT, LAW AND LAWYERS, ETC ETC…..AS YOU CAN UNDERSTAND (I HOPE YOU CAN USE A LITTLE PART OF YOUR BRAINS) ALL FESTIVAL ORGANIZATIONS HAVE TO WORK WITH GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7: GO GET A LIFE AND LET THE PEOPLE HELP OTHER PEOPLE WHO NEEDS IT…

    purplepriest1965 says:

    @ 15

Although I endorse your pro JLT view…..

I really have a headache now, reading that all big signs.

    The only Americain in DP?
I think you are focussing on MK 5?

Btw, I always found it very ironic to hear Paice say that it was Joe s USA pop back ground that was a problem and then pursuing with an American with a country background.

Everyone in DP, well at least Glover and Gillan had a pop backround, rooted heavily in USA backgrounds, so……

I m so glad Ritchie hooked up with Lord Sutch for his education instead of some country big shot.

Without Gillans love for old rock and roll IN ROCK might have had a reggae influence due to Glover.

I m glad Paicey knew JAZZ before heavy rock really came into light.
Otherwise he might have become a basher like so many that tried to follow the big acts from the 70 s.

Yesterday I saw a dvd from 2000 by DIO.
I still love the man and I prefer to see Craig above Aldritch and I like loads of the songs……

    But…..
    Really…..
What a shame that Ronnie hooked up with so mediocrity after Rainbow and Sabbath.

Anyway, bad judgment or not, Ronnie RIP.
