Gillan in “Blue Dragon” videogame

Ian Gillan has contributed some lyrics and vocals to a Japanese videogame Blue Dragon developed by Mistwalker and distributed by Microsoft. The game was released in 2006 in Japan and will see an international release at the end of August 2007. The track in question is called Eternity and is co-written by Nobuo Uematsu, Hironobu Sakaguchi and Ian Gillan. In Japan it appears on the 2CD soundtrack album accompanying the game and also was released as a single.

Here’s how it appears in the game:

Thanks to Al Erikson and Akiko Hada for the info.

It would be interesting to know how Gillan got to work with the creator of the Final Fantasy series and the most legendary video game music composer. Nice track anyway.

    But caution:
also a very electronic remix exist, which is VERRY different…

    Eternity ~Hiroki Esashika Remix~

We asked how Gillan got to work with Uematsu and received this reply through Microsoft Germany:
“Uematsu is a great fan of Ian Gillan so Uematsu’s staff asked Gillan to contribute a song for the game without Uematsu’s knowledge. Gillan willingly accepted and that’s how ‘Eternity’ got in the game.”

Great Song! I just played the game and heard the song while fighting against the first boss. It caught me with the first riff!!!! The voice of the singer sounds like someone I heard earlier. And then I read it’s Ian Gillian! That was a great moment!
