DEEP PURPLE in Moscow

23.06.96 Dynamo Stadium. Att: ~25.000 (not sold out)

(First, excuse my poor english, dear friends)

Great chance for all russian fans - FIRST visit Deep Purple to Russia/USSR. There was music festival. We came to capital after six hours of bus travel. Concert started at 15:20. Tree russian bands played some hours. We all was wait for Status Quo and Deep Purple. I think, you can understand our feelings. First time in Russia - after long, long years of lost hopes to see them here. It was very strange feel - ticket with DP's name in my hands. Dreams to reality?

Well, back to show :-) I'm not fan of Status Quo, but this is great band in live concerts. His rock'n'roll power gave us really good energy.

21:45. After one hour (roadies change all equipment), purple light fall down on stage... Stadium blow up - Ian Gillan appeared there! Jon, Roger, Steve and Ian P. - can't believe it! Legend is here - Deep Purple with us!

They started with FIREBALL. Great opening number - you know it. Gillan's voice was good, Roger's bass solo, ferocious drums :-) All members seems so funny, sound was really good (organ and guitar sounds was fantastic). Song ended by great INTO THE FIRE riffs. TED THE MECHANIC. Welcome, Steve! It was very interesting for me - I'm old Richie's fan and had not more optimism about DP (when he's gone). Album _|_ show me new talent, absolutely unknown here before. I was impressed by his studio work, but we all know - Deep Purple is live band. Now, I can say only some words - Steve is _great_ guitarist. He can play all stuff - new and old.

PICTURES OF HOME ("Song from machines" - Ian G.). Good live thing, too loud, though. Good Jon's solo.

Without pause, they started BLACK NIGHT. Crowd in trance. Fantastic solo duel beetween Jon and Steve. Superb!!

CASCADES not my favorite number from _|_. I think, it not better song for live. But it ended by Steve's solo number. Magic sound of his guitar flow through night air... We forget all other guitarists. Steve made it for us. We was happy.

SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE SCREAMING. One of best songs from new album for me. Ian Gillan was great, band sounded very clear and good. Storm of applauses. Very good live number.

WOMEN FROM TOKYO. No comments. Amazing.

Steve walk to front of stage, touch strings... SMOKE ON THE WATER !!! How long we wait it! But we was little disappointed by this one. Group don't gave us a good chance to sing that song too long as audience liked at Blackmore's time. Yes, they made two pause, but too short for us. It was mistake, I think. Song was finished quickly such as on original "Machine Head" album :-(

JON LORD stay alone on stage. Can't forget magic sound of his organ! Some solo passages - ang he make excellent surprise to us all. He played traditional russian song "Podmoskovnije Vjechera"! All 25000 people sing it together!

Thanks you, Mr.Lord. We was very, very pleased. Best present for us. Steve started new number - slow, soft sound rise over arena. Ian Gillan started... WHEN A BLIND MAN CRIES! Who told something about not better vocal condition of Ian? No, his voice sounded very good. Believe me.

After little pause Deep Purple blow up us again. SPEED KING! Amazing rhythm, fantactic sound and great job of _every_ band member.

Encores? Yes! Low organ passage - PERFECT STRANGERS. Live version was good.

HEY SISCO. Really, this is great live things. They played it such as on album. Jon's solo and Steve's guitar - what's an impression! This is the end?

No, of course. HIGHWAY STAR - final of performance. SM was beautiful. He play famous solo exactly as on original studio version - note-to-note! Bravo, Steve.

23:20. Ian say "spasibo" and good bye. In flash lights from fireworks he leave stage...

We'll never forget you, Deep Purple. Dream was reality that night. Thanks you and save your group. Because Deep Purple is _our_ band and _our_ music.

Good Luck!
