Antenne that can use some tuning

Simon McBride spoke to ROCK ANTENNE and the end result has been posted to youtube. It’s not without some technical difficulties: audio is out of sync with video, and it sounds like audio is also cutting in and out at times. Nevertheless, here it is.

Thanks to steve4422 for the heads-up.

Any info how Splat is doing charts-wise?

    Adel Faragalla says:

Splat is a great album with great material and some songs will be great played live on stage so I can’t understand the rush in making another album next year. Touring is their bread and butter.
    Peace ✌️

Yes it’s important that the marketing and the singles promotions pays off or they will never get a new music contract. That’s what EMI did to them after Bananas and the sales went downhill.
They will not make money for album sales but to carry losses is not good business.
    Peace ✌️

    Uwe Hornung says:

Very low chart placing in Denmark because Karin didn’t like it – that killed the album commercially there. 🙉🙊🙈

In the official German Midweek Charts, SPLAT! has meanwhile climbed to #3, just behind the new Madonna album.

    #8 Uwe:

hahahaha let’s leave Karin alone to process the new album!

    #4 Svante:
Oh my god, in Italy the masses only listen to trashy trap music these days…the summer hits have all been the same for the past 10 years, there’s a widespread musical (and not only) ignorance that gives you the shivers…and we were the country of “bel canto”

She shows similar resilience to the aging process as DP, Timi, and still expresses herself! 🤗

It’s dance music, judge it by that. The old girl is putting a lot into it.

    @8, 11 & 12

    Woah!
I had no idea my opinion is so important….

With that in mind: I’ll leave my account number here, put some money into it.
Except you Uwe, you’re filthy rich: you put in a lot 😂

    Svante Axbacke says:

@9: Funny, the same thing many people say about Purple. 🙂 Bu yes, she just released a new album with new music.

    Adel Faragalla says:

Well done Madonna for getting to number one but may I remind any disappointed DP fans that DP total ticket sales from the 90 plus shows this year might put them as the highest grossing touring band this year 😂😂😂
Eat your heart out non DP fans
    Peace ✌️

Madonna is part of pop history, I made peace with her work long ago – and don‘t forget how the old girl has new wave rock roots:

Ok, ok, the Blondie influence is overtly audible, but you name me one band in NYC in 1980 with a chick singer that was not patterning itself after Blondie‘s/Debby Harry‘s burgeoning success.

And then there is always the Purple Records/Curtiss Maldoon connection!

    https://youtu.be/x3ov9USxVxY

Hey, she didn‘t just steal it, she paid royalties!

I find it sad that – even for someone in the limelight like her – she has now been under the scalpel so often she looks like some M3GAN horror movie android

    https://youtu.be/BRb4U99OU80

I remember her 80s interviews where she scoffed at the idea of one day having any surgery done. But showbiz is merciless to women.

Anyway, when the new Rolling Stones album is released, DP can say goodbye to any #1 chart positions in the coming weeks. 🤣

    1. I think album names like Abandon, Bananas, Now What?!, Whoosh!, =1 and SPLAT! are all brilliant, it’s Gillan’s Dadaist mind at work.

    https://imgur.com/doc-i-think-there-is-something-eye-qpab9KJ

I like disturbing things. No way does it show that “the band doesn’t care anymore“, it shows that IG THINKS.

Literal album titles, worst if named after a specific song, are plain dumb and lazy. Imagine if they had called Machine Head “Highway Star
or “Smoke On The Water” – shudder the thought!

    2. “That’s his job, he’s a wordsmith.” Perfect description of Karin’s (former? 😬) honeybunch.

    3. Very smart observation of Simon how Purple’s “purpose in life is just to keep on going”, that sums them up.

    4. Whatever the initial technical issues with the vid were, lieber Nick, they have by now been well eradicated with legendary German ruthlessness and diffötiön to detail, jawohl! “Technical issues” mein Arsch, vee övercöme zem!:

    5. “You could tell that they had been doing it for twenty, twenty-five years with Steve …, they went from heads down to heads up …” – and there Little Simon sums up the situation (so many of us here seem to grapple with) quite aptly once again. “They will never forget you ’til somebody new comes along … there’s a new kid in town … everybody’s talkin’ about the new kid …“:

NOTE: There are very few questions in life that have not yet been comprehensively answered in an Eagles song in one way or another.

Others, of course, may prefer to follow the advice of, uhum, holy divers frolicking about in the midnight sun … ☝️😎

    #17 Uwe:

Speaking of female singers, I wanted to say a few words about Bonnie Tyler…
one of the ladies of 80s AoR, has left us. Her hits with Jim Steinman are unforgettable.

It seems that after a few days of severe abdominal pain, the doctors discovered a perforated appendix, and following surgery he had infectious complications that led to a pharmacological coma, but unfortunately the general situation became progressively irrecoverable.

It wasn’t a terminal or chronic disease of old age, and this makes what happened even more sad.

Only number 3 on the German album charts, all the previous 5 albums made it to number 1 so that’s a splat in the face 😱 peace ✌️

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (a German arch-conservative daily I read to balance my likewise daily online consumption of the lefty GUARDIAN) had a nice pic of her on the front page on Friday – together with the caption: “Es ist ein Herzschmerz”.

    Safe travels, Bonnie …
