Extra! Extra! Pinball bonanza! All Ian Paice + Purpendicular dates in Germany scheduled for October 2025 have been postponed until next year. The new dates have been rescheduled for the late January — early March timeframe. Please check the venue websites and/or our calendar before heading out.

Thanks to Max for the heads-up.

But why? Bad sales or illness in the band? DP recording commitments?

As usual, Max confoundingly raises more questions than he answers. 😑

Likely, the Danish dates were to blame. A barren and inhospitable region sandwiched between two cold bodies of water, culinarily ravaged by rød pølse, a beastly food if there ever was one, with Ronan Keating, an imported/abducted Australian Princess, and scattered WWII German bunkers being the main cultural highlights. The local populace avidly watches Lars von Trier films when they want to see “something lighthearted”. 😱

It was bound to take its toll on Purpendicular. I feared as much, but kept quiet hoping for the best.

there’s no reason stated that we could find, but it could be any of the multitude.

I read on Purpendicular’s FB page that it’s down to organisation at venues and by promoters.

When I read the headline I thought “who the hell is Paicey German”

Had I known of a reason Uwe I’d better kept it to myself anyway with hindsight – cos we would have missed that glorious caricature of our neighbourhood. 🤣

My money is on low ticket sales but what do I know.

That is music biz camouflage lingo for “there is nothing to see here, please move on”. 😂

Purpendicular tour too often in Germany with too many dates at one time clumped too close together area-wise. I’ve noticed that before. Not a good recipe.

And the concept of an elevated tribute with an active (!) member of the original group is – once the novelty effect has worn off – a dubious one … I’d prefer an evening with Ian Paice where he is playing music he has NOT played before. Sort of what Phil Collins did with Brand X. People mainly come to see Paicey just drum in any case, he could be playing 12 bar blues in a trio and do more flashy rolls than usual and everyone would be happy. Or it could be “drum clinic music”, I wouldn’t mind.

What’s the big deal?!! These things do happen a lot with tribute bands. Ian Paice always said that it’s purely to keep his arms and rhythm in good shape between touring and writing albums. I don’t think the money is the driving factor. I honestly don’t think it’s down to poor ticket sales and it’s more down to the fact that he could be flying to Nashville to finish the new DP album. Let’s think positive 👍
    Peace ✌️

Little Ian wasn’t nicknamed “The Bank of Paice” in DP for nothing,

I therefore wholeheartedly rule out 😄 that it is irrelevant to him whether an enterprise he is involved in is losing money or not. When it became clear that PAL would continue to cost his own money for quite some time longer, the repercussions were swift: He and Jon pulled the plug after a handful of dates to cut their losses.

@8 Surely, I’d come to see Paicey whatever he’s playing but I doubt he’d be pulling more people doing shows with unknown material. Besides me – as a Spätgeborener – like to hear him play some songs of his Back catalogue I’d otherwise wouldn’t hear live. Walking in the Shadow of the Blues, Ready an’ Willing, Child in Time, Silver Tongue, The Battle Rages on, Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming, Ted the Mechanic and others come to mind I never had the pleasure to enjoy live otherwise. And I also liked that they did One Night in Vegas after Inifinite got released, so you get some extra live debut stuff as well

Your dad didn’t take you to rock concerts, Tilly? 😪

My son dragged me to Velvet Revolver, Motörhead and Mötley Crüe. I showed him JP, DP, KISS, Alice Cooper, Glenn Hughes, Wishbone Ash and WS.

He liked DP the least! 😂 Steve Morse wasn’t what he thought a guitar hero.

Speaking of KISS: Rest in space, Ace …

    Max says:

Well Uwe in fact his dad took him to a Purple show – with a whole orchestra plus Ronnie James Dio in tow that is! – before he was actually born. But as much as dad would have loved to take his beloved son to a show with Paicey playin’ Walking in the Shadow of the Blues dad would have loved to go there himself. But couldn’t – due to lack of driver’s licence …

    Tillythemax says:

@12 Yes he did! And Purpendicular/Ian Paice were on the bill quite a few times. Also DP, Whitesnake, Reunionbow, Glenn Hughes and Blackmore’s Minstrel Show in some antique locations. Thats only from the Purple-universe, we saw lots of other kinds of music together, always great fun!

@12. Kiss!?!?!? were you punishing him for some indiscretion? 😁

    Uwe Hornung says:

No Chris Normsn gigs then? I‘m shattered.

I think Leon was 12 or 13 when I took him to KISS, he wasn‘t overly excited at first (just out of his Eminem phase and into Korn), knew little of the music. I told him, come with me, you’ll like it, promise. I‘ll never forget how his kiddie eyes widened when the curtain fell, and they started playing Detroit Rock City amidst all the stage fog and fireworks, with Stanley, Simmons and Thayer descending from the hall ceilingfrom their mechanical platforms onto stage. Little Leo was mesmerized and for a few weeks Kiss were his favorite band. 😂

Years later we saw Ace Frehley at some club gig in Frankfurt. Leon liked his kaputnik attitude although by then he was likely the more accomplished guitarist compared to The Spaceman.

Oh, the New York Dolls were another band pwe saw. He liked them too. He had a real penchant for sleaze.
