Equal and opposite reaction

Whoosh! being pressed press

The following message from Ian Gillan was posted to the band’s facebook account today, April 3:

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction…well, not exactly in this case; more cause and effect, where the latter is often greater than the former.

Distribution lines (the physical sales of CDs, vinyl, cassettes (?) etc) and retail outlets are closed until The Dreaded Lurgy gets indigestion.

Therefore, as there are still so many of us who love to hold a new record in our hands, and following advice from our magnificent label, we have decided to delay the release of Whoosh until August.

During my quarantine I’m listening to a lot of music and guessing that it’s the same for many of us during this scary disruption to our lives.

We know, don’t we, that music will play a big part in our celebrations as we step back into the light.

But, health comes first, so I must stuff my excitement about sharing Whoosh with you back into a box for a little while.

Stay well and follow the light…

ig

However, at the time of this writing there was no confirmation from the label itself and their promotional site for the album was still listing release date as June 12th.

This post may be updated with future developments.

[Update Apr 6]: The new date has been set for August 7, 2020.

Thanks to Martin Ashberry and Rich Shailor for the heads up.

I expected this delay. Hopefully, there will be another new tune or two before the album’s release.
Gotta keep us Purple faithful interested.
In yet another” Don’t hold your breath” update, it seems the Machine Head era book Fire In The Sky is now due to be published on June 28th,2020.

Makes sense. I’d have done the same.

Now What? I stopped going to record stores long ago… Amazon.com is open, I believe… In these strange and depressing times we really need someencouragements. Or, did I miss something here?

    It sucks but safety first.

I passionately agree that finding solace in listening to lots of music is good for the soul during these scary times.

Can you re-mix the album please and get rid of some the songs and make some of the others’s longer?

This could be the most important album that DP ever made. Just think of the thousand of humans who would not get the chance to her it as the Corona Virus took their lives. If only DP management announces that 10 percent of the album price would go to the hospitals of each country the album is released in. That would make the album so special and immortalised. I think
Peace love and Corona free to you all.

Another victim of the Covid-19…..hopefully it’s worth the waiting.🤘

When I read about the delay, I thought the same as all the other people here; makes sense, it’s ok…

But now I think it over and I don’t agree at all -not that anybody gives a damn if I do or don’t, but-

In this hard times, I think it would be trully appreciated by all people loving Purple that they release the album on line.

Then we could spend this precious time listening to it a thousand times. Which doesn’t mean that we didn’t buy the cd when, we got outta this confinement. I’ll rush to buy it first thing, deluxe edition or whatever, if I find it.

I understand that patience and the long wait makes it worth double, but this is a little too much. What’s the point of making people suffer so much?
Don’t think it’s a matter of money, they know for sure that the album will be on you tube the day it’s out, so, those who don’t want to buy it, won’t buy it. And, of course, those who do want to buy it, will buy it even though they have heard it a hundred times before.

    So, dunno, that’s it.

Wishing well to everybody. God bless.

    # john 9- A little perspective: don’t think of waiting for the new album as suffering. World news is filled with true suffering lately.Just sayin’…..Whoosh may not be worth the wait.Throw My Bones is certainly not a very strong first track.I hope for a lot better- but I don’t expect it.

The previous date of June 12 was my late mother’s birthday… & when she passed away, well, just take a guess what date that was. WTF?.

Thanks, that one made me laugh. Good one!

    mike whiteley says:

Amazon informed me yesterday that my pre-order of Whoosh may not arrive on it’s release date. The company is giving priority to delivery of essential goods. Hopefully, this won’t still be necessary in August, but it clearly shows what any new CD is: Non-essential.

    Joan masip oliveras says:

mike whiteley 11. Yeah, lotta people suffering and so, and I give my condolences to those who have lost someone. But, I precisely put it in perspective. My, perspective.

    1) when DP made the Now What?! album I really thought That, was the last one. And a great finalle, thanks on great measure to Bob Ezrin
    2) when they did InFinite, it was a BIG surprise and I REALLY thought THAT was the last (in fact, they said so).
    3) When I heard rumors about a new one, it was like… Woaw!, too much. I don’t believe it. But what if it was true? maybe …
    4) When it WAS a fact, it made my day, and it’s been making my day ever since
    5) I like a lot Throw my bones, Glover perfect as ever, Gillan STILL in good shape, doing the best he can of what’s left of his precious voice, superb production (Ezrin has many faults, of course, but he has taken the band to higher grounds since Now What, and he’ll do it again in this finale stage, for sure) …

So, I don’t expect In Rock, MH or PS, of course, but I’m very very happy the farewell tour wasn’t so, not yet. I have been following the band since I discovered them at 84, PS, with 14 years, and I could picture my life just drawing the lines from one point to the other. From one album to the next one.

I could keep on telling tales for hours but I think you get the picture by now.

So, I hope everybody’s fine and this fXXXg Dread Lurgy DIES of indigestion soon. But I keep a constant eye on the new one.

    Everyday.

    Whoosh!

    TheRedPen says:

Coincidentally, they also have another new album coming out on the 7th August (in Japan only) called ‘Wishu!’

    BLACKWOOD RICHMORE @12
Well if the album is great then it will ease you pain but if the album is weak it will be double the pain on August 7th.
Hopefuly it will be the first
Peace love and Corona free to you all.

The artwork for the albums and promotional materials has been superb in recent years.

    Dr. Bob says:

Deep Purple Whooosh! or season 10 finale of The Walking Dead. The race is on to see which one we’ll get 1st.

In the meantime, the album will not be remixed, nor will more songs be added. The delay is because the workers who do post-production, produce the physical cds & records, package them, and ship them to stores are at home where they should be. The band members, who are in a vulnerable age group, are in isolation. The studios are closed. The record stores are closed. Have patience.

    Blackwood Richmore says:

    @17 Adel, thanks mate!.
@16 TheRedPen, I did a quick google translation of “Whoosh” to Japanese & the answer it gave me was “Uwā”. Also, “Wishu” translated to “Wish”.

Happy Easter everyone! Stay safe & well.

#9 This is my reaction too. I think an online all digital release EARLIER. It would give a boost to fans and give them a unique product that could attract new fans stuck at home.

Then follow it with special editions of CDs and LPs.

Think outside of the box guys!

    Rock Voorne says:

Corona will not be over for a long time.

Maybe Roger can make us happy spending some time in the studio.

Please remix older stuff like you did with the Anniversary editions
but this time the 3 reunion albums with Blackmore.

And PLEASE lenghten all edited stuff.
Too short songs, I hate it, often the moment when one really wants the song to go on, and a great blistering Blackmore solo is fading just to piss you off.

Please dont wait much longer, I m getting kinda old.

  23. 23
    al says:

    @22

I don’t this Roger will be able to remix those albums by just staying home.Probably they don’t have those tapes anymore around, but Perfect Strangers,THHOBL and The Battle Rages on….needs some re-mix and some bonus stuff ….

    mike whiteley says:

    @22 Rock- LOL,we’re ALL gettin’ kinda old !! Seems like I’ll have a full,gray ponytail before I can get a haircut !
    I marked Blackmore’s 75th b’day on the 14th with,TBRO, HOBL & WDWTWA. Not the obvious choices,for sure,but a great day of ” Stay at home” listening.

Hope all is well with everyone….as well as can be expected.
