Buddy Rich memorial concert

The Buddy Rich memorial concert was held on Monday, April 2, at the London Palladium. Ian Paice was one of the several drummers paying tribute to the maestro. He was also interviewed by the Rhythm magazine:

And here’s a video (albeit, rather poor quality) of Paicey performing Smoke on the Water with Bruce Dickinson and the Buddy Rich Orchestra:

Thanks to Daniel Bengtsson for the info.

    Does anyone know if there are plans to release a DVD of this? I couldn’t make the concert but would love to see a DVD of it.

    Hope a DVD will be released of this show together with the 2007 one when Ian was there for the first time… the bonus dvd could be the show where Paice played swing with orchestra in Cormòns (Deep Purple Night 2002)…and the title could be: “Gone with the swing”…and for the moment I wait to see other Paicey videos from this show…

    I liked the interview with Paice although the breathing noise is really annoying. In his early years you can hear that Buddy Rich had a big impact on him.

    Different topic, just to put it out there: Jim Marshall, the creator of the world famous Marshall amps, died last tuesday at age 88. Now I’m sure they got a better sound up there. R.I.P.

    I doubt there will be a DVD, I can’t see a single camera on stage! 🙁

    Paice is dead wrong, when he states that big band drummers don´t think about the groove!

    @6,
    Actually he is totally correct. They don’t think about it, they feel it. Some things just come natural, otherwise it’s forced and in that case it doesn’t quite work out. That music calls for pure talented instinct. Paice encompass that ability, 50 years on….

    Cheers

    I really doubt there will be a dvd! I went to this…didn’t see one camera for the whole of the evening! I am hoping for a Cd though, although they didn’t mention anything on the night! Was a great night though!! absolutely brilliant!
