Living up

A brief addendum to our coverage of the induction. Short press conference that Gillan, Paice, and Glover gave after receiving their awards. It may answer some questions, but I guess not from the people who are in write-only mode. On his part, Blackmore posted this message on Facebook: Obviously, as you know from the post […]

A weird conglomeration of people

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held yesterday, April 8, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Gillan, Glover, Paice, Vicky Lord, Coverdale, and Hughes were on hand to accept the induction. No miracles happened. Blackmore didn’t show up (just like he’s been promising for a while), and Rod Evans […]

Purple exhibit opens in Cleveland

Cleveland.com reports that a Deep Purple exhibit has opened at the brink-and-mortar Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (which now has officially dropped ‘and museum’ moniker). The exhibit is displayed alongside the other 2016 inductees, and includes a centerpiece of Blackmore’s Gibson ES-335 from the early years (it was last used in the studio to […]

Ulrich to present Deep Purple at the induction

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich will be presenting Deep Purple at their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame this weekend. He recently spoke with radio.com about his love for the band and what, in his opinion, makes them a driving force in music. There is also a decent writeup on radio.com for the […]

Not with a bang, but a whimper

Mike Eriksson recalls in his blog Trinkelbonker the end of the first run of Deep Purple — which reached its lowest point 40 years ago today, on March 15, 1976. When Deep Purple did their five shows back in Britain between March 11 and March 15 1976 it was actually a pretty big homecoming. UK […]

We started the next album in Nashville on the 28th January. Thirteen days of pre-production and thirteen days recording in the studio. Lucky thirteen because we have thirteen tracks, all but finished except for vocals.

Essener Pop & Blues retrospective on Rockpalast

German TV show Rockpalast will be showing on March 28 a 4 hour retrospective on the Essener Pop & Blues Festivals held in 1969 and 1970. The broadcast is touted to include excerpts from the shows, contemporary TV reports, and concert specials. Footage of Deep Purple performing in 1969 is known to exist, so fingers […]

John “Dawk” Stillwell R.I.P.

John “Dawk” Stillwell has passed away unexpectedly earlier this week. He was a musician and electronics engineer from Ithaca, NY, who started working with the local band Elf in early 60s. When Roger Glover and Ian Paice started producing Elf in 1972, Roger liked the sound of Ronnie’s bass so much, that he commissioned Dawk […]

Somewhat complicated situation

Billboard has an interview with Paicey (who seems to be the go-to spokesman for the band these days). He didn’t say anything he hasn’t already said to Rolling Stone, just reconfirming the talking points: somebody probably will show up at the induction ceremony; who that will be and who will be performing what (if anybody […]

22 years too late

Apparently it happened, nevertheless. According to Billboard, it is Marks 1 to 3 that are inducted, while New York Times gives a list of members that include the first three lineups with the notable omission of Nick Simper. Induction ceremony will be held on April 8 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
