    Uwe Hornung says:

    DC following his pet philosophy: If a thing is worth doing, then it is worth overdoing! 🤯

  2. 2
    Karin Verndal says:

    Oh, but no socks? ☺️

  3. 3
    David N. says:

    No thank you. This is overkill.

  4. 4
    Max says:

    @2 😄 In his case I guess it had to be nail paint, Karin.

  5. 5
    MacGregor says:

    What about a few hair stylist tips on his perm? That mane, the Goldilocks of hair metal. Netflix, please get onto all this. Oh hang on, Spinal Tap ARE back, are they not? Cheers.

  6. 6
    Uwe Hornung says:

    You got to hand it to the Saltburnian, he gives the term everything but the kitchen sink new meaning. 🤣 Thinking about it … David would of course include the kitchen sink too.

    But I knew this was coming after the (Still) Good To Be Bad boxed set.

    I wish he could get his hands on pre-1983 WS material and give it the same treatment, his old management (which still owns the rights) is not really doing anything with it.

    I don’t regard Forevermore as a mandatory piece of rock music for any discerning rock aficionado, but what you do get with these Coverdale boxes is a nice (and robust) packaging, a thorough barrel scraping of what else there is and some real curator’s effort pulling it all together. That is at least some value for money even if the source material has its (mostly vocal) issues.

    Whatever, it keeps him busy and his mind off the fact that he likely will not be able to sing again forevermore. That can’t be easy for him even if the public David Coverdale supports a facade attempting to tell us otherwise.

    I don’t know this lp, never listened..that’s all.

    @4

    But what colour?!
    Wipping Boys Blue?
    Steel (your heart away)?

    Or a mean Bright Red?

    Jaffa says:

    Forevermore and Good to be Bad are both pretty good albums I think. The Purple Album and Flesh and Blood were a distinct drop in quality which may have something to do with Doug leaving the band. When Coverdale is gone these boxsets will be appreciated, I’m sure. I guess Flesh and Blood will get the same treatment next year?

    I wish he would hook up with a producer who could visualise something new for him. He has nothing to prove in rock terms and I know he listens to a lot of different music so why not do a Robert Plant and f**k the past? I guess it won’t happen for a variety of reasons, not least the voice and the slowing of momentum caused by the dreaded Covid.

    Forevermore is the last studio album he sounds good on in my view so I am interested in the remixes.

    I also wish the early stuff could be sorted. I know Bernie found/was given some multitracks from the Lovehunter sessions and I believe that the multitracks for Saints an Sinners exist. Giving these early albums a new lick of paint would be a treat (do you hear me the family of John Coletta?).

    What bothers me is that he has 2 historical moments and dont release it,, He can do a homage for John Sykes and Cozy P, releasing the last 2 Rock in Rio shows that are sitting in the shelf,,, all available in YTube with a less produtction. What happened to 83 Germany video ?

  12. 12
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Why isn’t Karin busy standing in the kitchen and baking a cake for Ian’s birthday instead of writ(h)ing lasciviously in a scaly Whitesnake thread and making thinly veiled references to “socks”?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YcgBIXbnKA

    This is all in very poor taste, I must say. I don’t know what happened.

  13. 13
    Max says:

    @ 9

    David took on the habit to show his feet off in social media – including painted toe nails with the WS-logo on them … ahem. Not to everyone’s liking. I believe someone close to me even stopped following him because of that.

    Mean Red sounds nice.

  14. 14
    Daniel says:

    I believe the only albums left for DC to “box set” now is the Purple Album, Flesh & Blood, Made in Japan, Made in Britain / The World Record and the Purple Tour? That will keep him busy until he’s 85 and we can look forward to different variations of the above artwork 🙂

  15. 15
    Marc Fevre says:

    I have the box sets that Coverdale assembled for “Slide It In” and “1987/Serpens Albus”, and the remastered edition of “The Purple Album” too, (which is a definite improvement over the original), but I stopped there; everything else in my Whitesnake collection is the original issue CD release.

    “Good to Be Bad” and “Forevermore” are both solid latter-day Whitesnake albums if you’re in to that sound, but I have to agree that “Flesh and Blood” is pretty weak overall.

    In the end, my favorite era of Whitesnake is the blues-based era that runs from the first album up to and through “Slide It In”.

    “Serpens Albus” is a fine album too, but its the beginning of a different Whitesnake and a different sound which I’ve always felt Coverdale spent too much time trying to recapture in the band’s later releases.

    Ok, there was “Restless Heart”, but that was really supposed to have been a solo album, so…

    In any case, the point that I am coming to here is that I’m fine with what I have, and I doubt very much that I’ll ever pick these newer box sets up.

    As for new recordings, well – I don’t know that vocally Coverdale could do anything more than some laid back acoustic blues numbers, keeping his voice solidly in its lowest register, because that’s really all that’s left to him I’d say.

    The second he tries to push it, the wear and tear becomes all to immediately apparent and its just not anything you want to hear…

    DerGerd says:

    By the way, today is Gillan’s 80th birthday!
    Happy birthday Ian, and I’m only listening to Gillan LPs today!
    I wish you a loooong life and many more studio records.
    Carramba!

    Cashing in. Yawn

  18. 18
    Erik says:

    Sir David sounded ok on Forevermore but….. the production was too upfront , all those screaming guitars did his vocals no good….i prefer listening to Northwinds or Come an get it…..and yep it`s ok when he wants to cash in

  19. 19
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Karin has missed Ian’s birthday – go tell everyone. Wimmin’s hearts, they are oh so fickle!

    It is a sad day when I have to remind her, but there have always been two types of Ian Gillan fans, those that even like his IGB-phase and stick with him through thick and thin and others who thought liking him fashionable due to his immense popularity in the Kingdom of Denmark in the 80s (mysteriously not mirrored by corresponding record sales), want him to tour a 64.000 souls town like Randers regularly and then promptly forget his natal day, tsk, tsk, tsk.

  20. 20
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Re classic WS, why this gig (a US TV broadcast 1980 in Washington State, likely as openers for AC/DC as they play only a short set) has not been polished and seen a proper CD release (it was only released on DVD with the Box of Snakes set in 2011) is inexplicable. The band were at a peak in 1980.

  21. 21
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Daniel @14: All those live albums are actually already contained in the live box that preceded this new one! The Purple Album (studio) has been remixed as well.

  22. 22
    Karin Verndal says:

    @12

    😂🤣

    “Why isn’t Karin busy standing in the kitchen and baking a cake for Ian’s birthday”
    – well I tell you exactly why!
    Because I appreciate Ian so very much, I will never put him through my homemade cakes….
    Coffee on the other hand!

    UWE! 📣
    I made that note because it was possible to buy socks with the MiJ collective-records!

  23. 23
    Karin Verndal says:

    @13

    “I believe someone close to me even stopped following him because of that.”
    – WOAH!

    Well, personally, besides his voice problems, I find DC to be a very interesting person.

    Mean Red is a personal favourite of mine!

  24. 24
    Karin Verndal says:

    @19

    “Wimmin’s hearts, they are oh so fickle!”

    – ohhh boy! How old are you Uwe? And you have just found out about that now?

    Well, if you actually showed up at his fb page, you would not say things like that!

    “want him to tour a 64.000 souls town like Randers regularly and then promptly forget his natal day, tsk, tsk, tsk.”
    – 🤣🤣🤣
    Ohh man, you are funny!

    I spend yesterday in silence, reminiscing of all the wonderful moments my favourite troubadour has given me!
    And very grateful I meditated on how I can show my appreciation for him even more!

    So, go tsk tsk tsk another place you dear southerner!

  25. 25
    David Black says:

    No socks means a no from me.

    Sonically I hate latter day Whitesnake and a remix won’t solve the angry wasp guitar tone or the man dropping furniture downstairs drumming. And the evolutions (if the previous releases are anything to go by) you listen to once and never again.

    Now if it came with 20 pairs of socks……🤔

  26. 26
    Jaffa says:

    Uwe, one of the shows on the Come A Get It tour was filmed at the Hammersmith Odeon. However, early in the set Coverdale turned to an onstage cameraman and told him to “f**k off”. This was followed by a power cut in the set. I was there and remember it well.
    I wonder what happened to the footage and if it was attempted on another night?

  27. 27
    Karin Verndal says:

    @1

    “If a thing is worth doing, then it is worth overdoing! 🤯”
    – finally I have a little break, and can now comment properly:

    I really don’t think it’s overdoing.
    Allow me to explain:
    A lot of my friends know all about Ian and Purple (with Ian as the vocalist) (I don’t know who have informed them, might have been me, but I’m not sure..😇)
    The same friends know less than nothing about Whitesnake and David C (maybe my fault too, again: not sure 😇)
    So for all of the people who don’t know much about WS I guess this is a welcome opportunity to get to know them better.

    And I really never get agitated or otherwise upset when artists wanna make an extra £? €? $? !
    I wanna get paid for my job too…

    I also get the need for some recognition for one’s work.

    If some of us have all those songs (albums, socks, caps, sweatshirts etc) we can let this offer be in peace, but for those of us who need to know more, I think it’s splendid.

    Just like Made in Japan! I await my copy with enthusiasm, anxiety, longing-ness and curiosity 😃

  28. 28
    Karin Verndal says:

    @19

    “due to his immense popularity in the Kingdom of Denmark in the 80s (mysteriously not mirrored by corresponding record sales”
    😄😂
    – well, I certainly don’t know how come those figures aren’t published and known to certain invasive German lawyers!

    If I had it in my powers, I would indeed take you back to the days of my youth so you with your own eyes could witness how extremely popular Gillan was!

    Unfortunately, I do have a tiny lack in my abilities when it comes to invent intricate designs and machinery, but Uwe, I promise: the day where it is possible, I will indeed get you back in the day and show you how well the Danes welcomed Ian and his magnificent band!

  29. 29
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Did GILLAN (the band) ever even play in Denmark, seriously?

    And like you, I don’t have issues with DC’s repackaging industry. There is coherence in it (if you subscribe to the principle) and with each and every release there are always rarity nuggets.

  30. 30
    Max says:

    @25 That description of the guitar sound and – even more – the drumming sum it up perfectly! 😄

  31. 31
    Karin Verndal says:

    @25

    “Now if it came with 20 pairs of socks……🤔”
    – well, exactly!

    And they could throw in a cap too 😄

  32. 32
    Karin Verndal says:

    @29

    Seriously?

    Well, I’m a mature lady, and my memory has a tendency to be very bad 😄

    But I can tell you something else:
    I actually love to bake cakes, and people around me think I’m good at it.
    However – I also love to eat cake! So there you have it: I don’t bake cakes because calories are those little minions that crawl in my wardrobe at night and sew all my clothes smaller 😳😠

    Another thing I can tell you is this:
    In the 80s, in Denmark, disco was very popular 🙃
    I had some few favourites too, like this one:
    https://youtu.be/XKuJUxGntRI?si=anijT73rK6EOndeq

    And this – ok not disco but still nice 😄
    https://youtu.be/apBWI6xrbLY?si=sF1FMBoRLRkl9XEy

    And this, just because I liked it so much:
    https://youtu.be/_09pN7JgEy4?si=_sNAyv2mSsbRsZXI

    Well, where was I?
    Oh yes… Ian Gillan!
    https://youtu.be/zi3lxg9SX28?si=dBuEmb2no-cDJyNY

    And this is adorable
    https://youtu.be/G8w638t_MtU?si=MQNjNxfOI8HcJCKn

    Now I forgot your question! Sorry…😁

  33. 33
    MacGregor says:

    @ 26- “However, early in the set Coverdale turned to an onstage cameraman and told him to “f**k off”. This was followed by a power cut in the set. I was there and remember it well.” That sounds like a younger Coverdale had picked up a bad habit of Ritchie’s. I wonder who turned the power off? Or was it purely a coincidence? Did the concert get going again Jaffa? Cheers.

  34. 34
    MacGregor says:

    @ 32- “I don’t bake cakes because calories are those little minions that crawl in my wardrobe at night and sew all my clothes smaller 😳😠” Ha ha ha ha, that is a good one Karin, I did enjoy that. I will have to tell a few ladies I know of that one. Oh hang on, I had better not, it is a very touchy subject matter that one. Thanks for the laugh. Cheers.

  35. 35
    Jaffa says:

    @ 33 – it did resume, yes but the onstage cameraman was banished! I don’t know what was eventually recorded or not… a great shame!

  36. 36
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Wishing your performance filmed, but then mouthing off about the camera man doing his job to get the best possible shots, is to me the epitome of childish unprofessional behavior – whether Blackmore or Cov’ is the culprit. Just silly.

  37. 37
    Uwe Hornung says:

    That Move song you posted, man that is already sooooo much proto-ELO!

    Nothing wrong with disco, this is one of my favorite songs ever …

    https://youtu.be/GsHO1btU_kc

    And Maxine’s cocaine-induced sweat – very 70s and much like Glenn Hughes live – is kinda sexy.

    Brian Wilson’s Good Vibrations is an icon of 20th century musical art, nuff said.

  38. 38
    Karin Verndal says:

    @37

    I had completely forgot about that song!
    “Right back where we started from” 😃
    It’s jolly 😄

    “And Maxine’s cocaine-induced sweat”
    – please explain, I honestly don’t know what you mean 😊

  39. 39
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Severe cocaine intake messes up your body temperature regulation, frequent users break a sweat easily, they are running turbo-charged on all 12 cylinders so to say. It’s something they always recognize among each other.

    Glenn Hughes made a not-so-subtle hint about it on his 1977 debut solo album …

    https://img.discogs.com/JvxXo6uuIK8pE1POS9cL_xY2CP8=/fit-in/500×492/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-3748911-1379460174-4806.jpeg.jpg

    https://img.discogs.com/iWDUbX7sARlng0T2-mlPoLzZssk=/fit-in/600×588/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-9510861-1482005818-6365.jpeg.jpg

    As Glenn so honestly sang:

    You gotta understand me
    That I’m on a natural high
    The places I’ve been goin’
    Are space high, oh space high

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0uY9QGmfRQ

    Btw: That is a song showing off Glenn’s bass style extremely well and how he is not really a more complicated bass player than Roger, not playing more notes, but less, albeit in places where they catch attention!

  40. 40
    Uwe Hornung says:

    Those links to the Hughes album do not work, but you can hopefully see the front and back sleeve here …

    https://elholocaustodepabloalekssander234115323.wordpress.com/2020/03/09/glenn-hughes-play-me-out-1977/

  41. 41
    Karin Verndal says:

    @39

    “Severe cocaine intake messes up your body temperature regulation, frequent users break a sweat easily,”
    – thanks so much my well-meaning southern neighbour!

    I read that when a person has taken cocaine once, and tried that ‘high’, they will seek it forever again, but never succeed, because the dopamines and serotonins are used up and aren’t easily restored.
    Only the first use of cocaine is the true good one.
    I wonder if that is true?

  42. 42
    MacGregor says:

    @ 37 – what, poor ole Maxine wasn’t sweating because of the all those lights and getting it on shaking her butt? I thought that is what happened at innocent concerts. Plus the temperature effect of all the audience being in there too, especially if it is summer time. “Cocaine, running all round my brain”. Reminds me of the Jackson Browne song on his live album from the 1970’s. Then we had Sabbath doing ‘Snowblind’ and also JJ Cale with ‘Cocaine’ which lead to Eric Clapton doing that as well. The corporate world thrives on that shite. So much so a politician here in Oz had the audacity to recommend mandatory drug testing for all Government and private firms. Man did she get shut down very quickly. The whole country would come to standstill if they did that, wouldn’t it. Not to mention the rest of the developed world and some. Cheers.

  43. 43
    Uwe Hornung says:

    I think that’s a (more recently popularized) scripted deterrent myth that only your first hit of cocaine is great. Don’t tell me that Glenn Hughes spent almost 20 years of his life waiting to re-experience his first contact with the “marching powder”, he enjoyed what he was doing most of the time, just look at the California Jam gig, he was elated there.

    While I’m no expert, I’ve seen regular cocaine users over years and they seemed to enjoy it every time. It’s a drug that – unlike heroin which knocks you out into Neverland not much good for anything – lets you function properly, have great sex, come up with ideas and hold down a regular job with heightened energy for a relatively long time – until it all caves in. That is why it became such a widespread middle/upper class drug for the performance-oriented Western World, a drug for professionals working in the system and not dropping out (until eventually the addiction gets the better of them, but not everyone has the same issues getting off coke).

    It never did anything for me other than numb my gums. Probably a quality issue.

    “Don’t tell me”
    – I wasn’t telling you anything: I was asking you a question 😃

    “lets you function properly”
    – well, I already do, so no need to go down that road…

    “It never did anything for me other than numb my gums”
    – 😆😆🤣 ok, too much info there Uwe!

    Actually in the Danish Parliament, also known as Folketinget, it was known some years ago that the bathrooms in the building ALL had traces after cocaine!
    I wondered: why go to the bathroom to snort that stuff, if it’s a public secret that everyone is doing cocaine?
    But then again, what do I know? I’m no politician, just a homeopath living in the county side drinking way too much coffee ☺️

    – 😆😆🤣 ok, too much info there Uwe!” ha ha ha, I forgot about that comment from Uwe, thanks for the reminder Karin. And wouldn’t it be nice and quiet too, he wouldn’t be able to talk and imagine if the tips of his fingers also went numb. Then he wouldn’t be able to type at all. A WIN WIN situation for us all, hooray! Edith would be in heaven at home too. Cheers.

    – MacGregor, PLEASE don’t ever tell Uwe this, but I’m afraid it would be a lot more boring in here if he couldn’t spew out his many words, thoughts and opinions 😄
    Often I laugh so loud, reading his posts, that Anton looks at me with great worry in his pretty doglet-eyes ☺️
    (But that goes for the rest of you in here too 😄) (this is a very, VERY humorous society I jumped into 🤩) ( and I love it!)

    “Edith would be in heaven at home too.”
    – I would like to get to know this very fine lady – she must be made of special solid gold to cope with her husband 😅 maybe she could give me some tips and ideas 😃

    Edith is mentally already in Denmark, she has three weeks there coming up in September!

    MacGregor says:

    There you go Karin. your wish is Edith’s command. Three weeks in Denmark in September, you have no excuses now, it has to be done. The perfect setting. Put a good word in for me will you. Cheers.

    I wonder if Edith will be attending the Perpendicular concert in Kolding in September?

  52. 52
    Uwe Hornung says:

    She’s been to Purpendicular once and doesn’t like the singer! But she did say at the time that it was nice to have seen a band playing DP songs where the guitarist was not wearing kitschige Florida Tankstellen Print T-Shirts!- I honestly have no idea who or what she meant by that.

    She is also adamant that – via me – her life already contains an über-ample amount of DP! 🤣

    But she does think that Ian Paice is a great drummer – but then if you had been exposed to as much Nick Mason as she has, then anyone is! 😂

    – 😁 Uwe, stop bitte, Sie müssen Ihrer Frau ihre eigene Meinung lassen! Natürlich in Rühe…

    Uwe Hornung says:

    Edith was the first to remark on Steve’s dress sense being decidedly lacking – she’s no great fan of printed T-shirts worn by adults!

  55. 55
    Karin Verndal says:

    @54

    But Uwe, most grown men in Denmark wear exactly printed t-shirts!
    How does she tackle that phenomenon?! 🤔

  56. 56
    Uwe Hornung says:

    She doesn’t register other males in Denmark, she only has eyes for me, what did you think?

    Actually, where Edith prefers to dwell in Jylland, Danes are a rare commodity, it’s all in the hands of the descendants of the former Bunkerbauer! 😂

  57. 57
    Karin Verndal says:

    @56

    🤣 well she certainly register other men so much that she finds time to dislike their clothing 😃

    @54

    Uwe, btw: (I know we discussed this so many times before, but I just read something extremely important at Ian’s fb page)
    You so very often criticise Ian’s clothing, but have you ever thought about that he actually is a trendsetter?

    Because he is a trendsetter!
    Think about it: he is highly intelligent and a lot of other people strive to be just like him!
    I’ve always been so impressed with his style 😊
    Trendsetters carry the notion of fashion!
    Besides that: he is THE voice and is so capable of everything he does, so for my sake he could be wearing a potato sack and I would still think of him as a trendsetter and a genius ☺️

    (The woman who wrote this has a deep insight into everything important regarding Ian 🥰)
