He’s good, just taking it easy
Doug Aldrich spoke to BraveWords in an in-depth interview that clears up a lot of confusion about what is going on with the Dead Daisies and Glenn Hughes (TL;DR summary: Corabi wasn’t fired, the reunion with Glenn was supposed to be a one-off that turned to a two-off, and back to one-off).
That’s one of the misunderstandings and misconceptions; Glenn wasn’t coming back to the band. Nobody asked him to be in the band. It was just a one-off. And then it was like, okay, let’s just squeeze one more. We booked it and Glenn was down for it.
Anyway, we had it all set up, and Glenn’s doctor said, ‘Come in for a random checkup.’ They did a test and it came back that he had an issue that is treatable, but it means that he needs to take it easy. He just said to us, ‘Look guys, I can’t commit to this gig now because my doctor said I need to take it easy.’ Glenn deserves to do whatever he wants; he’s earned that. Just like Coverdale. If he decides that he’s retired forever, that’s up to him. If he decides, once he gets this stuff sorted out, that he wants to come back to doing his solo stuff, or whatever he wants to do… he’s good, he’s just taking it easy, following doctor’s orders right now. We’ll be with him, supporting him as family, all along the way throughout this procedure.

Now that sounds a bit better, doesn’t it. I sure do hope he recovers and comes back one way or another!

August 21st, 2026 at 20:06If Doug was sent out to “clarify“ things with this interview, he just gave a performance even below what most more recent White House Press Secretaries have offered and that is saying something. 😂
If you want to give a spin on something then at least see to it that all the loose ends match up and don’t just blame it on managerial miscommunication.
Keep that day job playing guitar, Doug, don’t go into media!
☝️😎
(I like Doug as a person but this interview was a communication train-wreck and is not going to console a single Dead Daisies fan.)
August 22nd, 2026 at 11:37Perhaps, Doug is not too well versed?
August 23rd, 2026 at 08:39Or possess finesse? Intelligence?
I talked to Doug in 2018 in Zagreb (TDD concert). Extremely great guy. I don’t want to comment on this interview, because it’s too long, and everyone can get something positive and something negative out of it. I don’t believe he was saying what someone else told him to say. Repeatedly, he’s a great guy and an even better guitarist.
August 23rd, 2026 at 10:08Cheers
I was never sure what to think of all these changing GLENN HUGHES projects.
He tried a lot,said a lot.
Like in 2013 speculating if the third BCC album d be their last.
Also giving a signal to his imagined partner wanting to do long BCC tours and that wasnt enough for him….
BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION did in the end deliver 5 albums but it never became a real constant band.
The interview with DA made me think WHAT A MESS!
Appearantly DA tries this because he s at the moment unable(?)to communicate with Corabi.
One theory of mine is that they might ve hoped to push forward with Glenn and that it backfired after Glenns health got that bad.
And that DA is now desperately trying to pick up the pieces and save something.
I read into KINGS OF CHAOS, also a now older sideproject in which Glenn participated.
August 23rd, 2026 at 13:03IMHO is an extreme ROUNDABOUT and yes true to their name, chaotic.

Uwe, having actually met Doug, I think you’re misreading the man rather badly here.
That’s Doug. He’s a laid-back California dude who talks exactly like this — relaxed, conversational, non-confrontational and seemingly much more interested in getting along with people than constructing some perfectly polished corporate narrative.
So what you’re interpreting as a “communication train-wreck” or a badly executed PR exercise actually sounds to me like Doug simply talking in Doug’s normal manner.
He’s a guitarist, not a press secretary. 😎
And I think that’s important because you’re reading quite a lot into the interview that isn’t actually there. You’re assuming he was “sent out” to spin something, then judging his answers against the standard of how well he thinks that supposed spin holds together.
Whereas I suspect the reality is considerably less Machiavellian: Doug was asked about a messy situation, and he answered in the same laid-back, conversational way he normally talks.
You can certainly disagree with what he says. You can think some of the answers leave questions unanswered. But “communication train-wreck” seems a bit much when what you’re actually seeing is a bloke talking like the bloke he is.
Not every loose end is evidence of a cover-up.
Sometimes a California guitarist is just a California guitarist. 😂
August 24th, 2026 at 11:18What RV says, I think TDD are scrambling to pick up the pieces after they have successfully alienated JC and now can no longer bank on GH. Apparently, David Lowy, a man specializing in financing his childhood (WW II aircraft) and teenage (70s stadium rock) fantasies by buying both a flyable Spitfire Mk VIII and Glenn Hughes, was seriously chuffed about having a Purple legend in his band.
The irony is: If they had asked Corabi to be the Coverdale to Glenn (Corabi would have been up for it, he’s an Mk III fan) and added a keyboarder for a musical revue of Mk III & IV cuts (= music that no one else is playing these days) touring worldwide as The Deep Daisies tickets would have sold like hot cakes. And, yeah, David Lowy could have done a flyover with his Spitfire Mk VIII
https://youtu.be/kt05rrXXWto?is=8Z9UBny_zIB9CuNn
at one of their festival performances. Doesn’t that have a fine tradition with open air gigs by bands associated with the DP family? 🤗
August 24th, 2026 at 12:18Lieber Rubber, I’m actually fine with your analysis, it could well be true. I like Doug, he’s among the best guitarists Glenn has ever played with and you don’t have to qualify for an academic award in social studies + psychology to be good with your fingers. So maybe, yeah, he’s just another Californian with beach blond hair playing guitar and not exactly Lou Reed. But then Lou Reed would have never received an offer from nor played with DC in WS! 😇
Somehow I assume that David Lowy runs a tight ship, you have to if your wealth stems from running a retail real estate business. Also if you fly an 80-year-old Spitfire Mk VIII for fun – you should better be aware of anything that’s going on in the cockpit of that ancient warbird at all times.
That John (Corabi) out/Glenn in/Glenn out again/John back/Glenn back (sort of)/John now out for good in a huff/Glenn not in a health state to commit further wasn’t handled well by any standard. I dearly hope that the mechanics who take care of David’s Spitfire are more consistent and better organized. 😑
August 24th, 2026 at 14:44Hello.
Rubber @7 is quite right, imho.
I also have had the pleasure in meeting Doug a couple of times, when he was, years ago – as You know – on and off in both Dio and Whitesnake at the same time (between tours). An accomplishment itself isn´t that ?!
Excellent guitarist, marvellous as a person. He listens to what one has to say. And like Rubber described it…a laid-back dude. Always smiling. Survivor himself !
For me it was great to notice how well he played Ritchie´s stuff and soundwise, too. It seemed to be so easy and somehow effortless for him, too.
Great dude, hats off. And You know what? Saw him with Steamroller, too. They played some Michael Jackson and James Brown stuff among others, if I remember it right. The guy from WS played drums and sang, too. I got a bad flu then, and I needed to leave the famous Tavastia club in Helsinki much too early. I had fever when I got home.
I´m sure we will hear about Glenn when it´s time for him to tell us more. My thoughts are with him. I wish him all the best recovery and health.
Kippis.
August 24th, 2026 at 15:52Uwe, you’re still imposing a conventional “band” model onto something that was never really designed that way.
The Dead Daisies were built around much the same principle as the pre-Purple Roundabout: musicians come in, musicians go out, circumstances change, the project continues. Corabi has left before. Him leaving again isn’t necessarily a management catastrophe; it’s part of the model.
And David Lowy isn’t some hypothetical corporate manager whose personality we can deduce from his property business and the fact that he flies a Spitfire. 😄 Having actually encountered the man, “East Coast Australian cool” is a considerably better description.
So I’m not sure there’s a great mystery here.
John has left before, Glenn has been involved before, Glenn’s health has complicated things, and now John has left again.
Messy? Perhaps.
A “communication train-wreck by any standard”? That’s a judgement, not an established fact.
And Doug speaking in his usual laid-back Doug manner certainly isn’t evidence of one.
Sometimes musicians simply move on. Roundabout was built on that principle before Deep Purple existed, and the Purple family has been doing versions of it ever since.
August 24th, 2026 at 16:06I don’t see what the big deal is. These things happen all the time, a lack of communication. Aldrich is just explaining what went down. It’s not as if he or Lowy are dependant on TDD for their livelihood. It’s been a rotating lineup all along. Corabi sounds nothing like Coverdale and Glenn is off the road, so a Mk 3 themed tour makes little sense.
August 24th, 2026 at 17:28Hm, the switches from Mk II to Mk III and from Blackmore to Bolin were certainly “carefully packaged“ by the DP management at the time. Nothing was left to chance and quite some preparation went into especially presenting DC, the “unknown boutique salesman from Redcar”, to the world. The reasons why Gillan left and Glover was squeezed out were kept from the public for years.
The Dead Daisies are not a band working on conventional principles, but if you read the comments from their fans on social media they are far from happy how this all went. They like the band, want it to have an identity and would likely be rather unhappy about a roundabout comparison. That is what they want the band to get away from. 🤗
August 24th, 2026 at 20:54Uwe, the Roundabout comparison is exactly what it is. Fans shoiuld manage their expectations and stick to the facts, not fantasy.
I love the Daisies with Doug and John but having seen them on every tour except the very first gig I know there will be change.
“The Dead Daisies, formed in 2012 by guitarist David Lowy, are a musical collective created by a rotating line-up that has featured some of the best Rock musicians on the planet.” Directly from the Dead Daisies website, sounding very much like the Roundabout ideal
August 25th, 2026 at 08:13I was under the impression that Corabi had been a center figure of several line-ups for a long time and that fans had really taken to him (he is a good singer and is co-respnsible for the best Mötley Crüe album ever, one to which he invited Glenn Hughes to guest). Glenn with the Daisies otoh seems to be a somewhat divisive subject with Daisies fans (as opposed to Hughes fans) who – rightfully so – accuse him of putting very much his own stamp on the band (that is what Glenn does, no matter where you put him).
It’s all the same to me, I think the Daisies are ok, but I’m not a fan, have seen them quite often actually (as openers for other bands such as WS, JP etc). I rated them as a credible platform for Glenn to work from and I have a soft spot for Doug especially because on that trio tour with Glenn a few years back he did the Trapeze material they did justice like no guitarist before him, Mel Galley excepted. I have no issues with David Lowy’s role in the band either, he seems like an interesting character.
August 26th, 2026 at 16:54I saw TDD three times. Opening act 2015 Whitesnake, Their tours, Zagreb 2018, Ljubljana 2023. And they were always great.
August 27th, 2026 at 09:44I respect everyone’s opinion, but from the beginning and especially with John Corabi they were the closest to the hard rock that was played in the seventies. Glenn Hughes in TDD is just an eccentric wish of the band’s boss, to play with the idol of his youth. I watched their concerts with Glenn on YOUTUBE but that was no longer it. The fact is that half of the Whitesnake members played in his band. David Lowy is obsessed with Deep Purple and family, enough money so he could afford it. I once wrote here that if he had persuaded Ritchie Blackmoore to join TDD he would have quit his band himself, and watched from behind the curtain, how his idols play. If I had money like him I would probably do the same. You only live once..
COME TASTE THE BAND in Australia

@ 17…
Thanks Rock 🙂 !!!

You re wellcome.
Already forgot where I read it but , I skipped/postponed buying Glenn s book for several reasons, that it is from there :
During several shows the Drugsduo was off their meds for some shows.
I wonder how that went, side effects or using something to neutralise that.
The Lord solo section is great and I cannot stand I dont remember what piece he s playing there.
