Live in Limbo reviews the Deep Purple gig in Toronto on August 18, 2026:
There is a particular kind of hush that falls over a crowd just before the house lights drop, not silence but a collective held breath of anticipation. That was the mood at RBC Amphitheatre last night where Deep Purple proved that longevity and vitality are not mutually exclusive.
The band walked out after a montage of visuals from there storied history. No introduction needed. Fists punched the air as the first riffs of Highway Star blasted through the speakers. Band t-shirts worn proudly by folks with graying ponytails, swaying in the aisles. The crowd enjoyed every minute of the show.

Unauthorized copying, while sometimes necessary, is never as good as the real thing
I saw some video from the Friday night gig at Pine Knob (between Detroit and Flint) in Clarkston, Michigan. It looked pretty doggone good. That’s the venue where Gillan bopped a bouncer on the head for roughhousing a fan in 1998 and got fined. I reminded Ian of that around 2007 when DP played there again and he chuckled. I always respected Gillan for not putting up with that crap. Just like at the famous Copenhagen gig in ’72, where Ian stopped singing to yell at someone in the crowd to knock it off. That part of Gillan’s character is charming, for sure.
August 23rd, 2026 at 01:38It was altready a weird evening, the Rotterdamshow end 93 after which RB torn up his Japanvisa.
In front of my eyes both Alphas were acting like little children and trying something to emberass the other.
It already was the case Gillan forgot lyrics and around me, unlike most Deep Purple shows I attended, a mob of metallike heads had gone into fights and moshpitting et all that sick stuff.
I stood, like I usually tried to do, in front of Gillan.
I tried to communicate that many us got trampled and hoped for him to use his authority.
He smiled and shrugged his shoulders.
IMHO he couldnt give a fuck that many of his most loyal fans saw their concert ruined by idiots/hooligans.
The show is on YT,no video I think, and it sounds like a good show.
Maybe others remember these things as well?
