Watch Concerto in Győr

Jon Lord’s Concerto for Group and Orchestra was performed in Győr, Hungary, on November 5, by a local orchestra with Paul Mann conducting, Bruce Dickinson singing, and Roger Glover blessing the even with his playing. The evening also included a set of Purple classics (with an occasional Beethoven tune thrown in).

The Concerto itself:

Perfect Strangers:

When a Blind Man Cries:

Ode to Joy:

Pictures of Home:

Hush (with an impropmptu call for audience participation going a bit sideways):

Smoke on the Water:

Rehearsals and news report (in Hungarian):

That was probably the first public appearance for Roger since that March 2020 gig in Mexico, was it not?

Thanks to Blabbermouth for the heads up.

Nice to see the Maestro Jon Lord’s music being performed, thanks to Paul Mann & the Orchestra & the band of course. Enjoyed Pictures of Home, Hush & Ode to Joy ( wish it was longer), stellar playing by all. Also, thanks to the ‘authorities’ for letting Roger Glover ‘out’ for the performance. Cheers.

Just finished watching the entire performance, superb. A wonderful way to start the day. Playing in the band to that music with the orchestra behind you must be the ultimate, one would think. Kudos to everyone involved, brilliant. Cheers.

No one can touch Gillan’s original vocals from the original Concerto. But kudos on a fine job by all involved. I’m sure Lord would be smiling down from above. Maybe both Lords, if you know what I mean.

Not the greatest Iron Maiden fan on earth – or Bruce Dickinson fan for that matter. But you have to hand it to him, he puts his (metal) heart into this performance. Very commendable.
