Sing not the same old song

We’ve announced earlier this year a cover of Sail Away done by an Austrian trio Restless Bones with Don Airey adding the Hammond magic touch from his home. The video is now available on Youtube.

Thanks to Sam Schlagenhaufen (whom you can see on the drums above) for the info.

    Andrew M says:

Don is in great form here, and even sings along a bit on the chorus! A year or more of enforced leisure seems to have reinvigorated the lads–to judge by both this and “7 And 7 Is”. I’m actually looking forward to the new album.

    Dave says:

Not bad. A more rocked up version. Then again, nobody is going to beat the original Coverdale/Hughes version. Not even Whitesnake with that putrid version they put out on the Purple Album. David should’ve left well enough alone.
As for Don. He is the best. He puts his heart and soul into it. Great keyboard player. Noone else could replace Jon.

    Carl says:

I really like this, well done Sam and band, and of course, a great job from Don!

    Luca says:

Great job from Don, but I don’t like this version…

    Uwe Hornung says:

Neither do I, horrible vocals. Weird chords in the chorus, no groove, the guitar solo is a hurried crime. They’ve really ruined it – and it is one of my favorite DP songs in the original. The Whitesnake version was overwrought, but not quite as bad as this.

Don’s organ is the only saving grace to this version.

    Al says:

My goodness this is awful. Just leave it alone boys. Horrible

    Xavier says:

this cover version is not sailing. drunk sounding
vocals with half-baked musicians do not add anything to a classic track. please do not take the tolerance and goodwill of Purple fans for granted and Don Airey should know better than turning to criime with amateur musicians.

    Adel Faragalla says:

No damage is done. Few boys having fun and the original still shines.
    Peace

When I hear something I like I know it right off, but not being a musician I won’t say more than…YUCK?!

    Leon M Rodziewicz says:

Wish the boys would do some Mk3 & 4 stuff.

    Steve says:

All credit to Don on this but this song is a classic for a reason and none of the elements that make it so are featured here. Sorry guys, not for me. 😳

  12. 12
    Andres says:

    How dare they!

Even with Don’s brilliant contribution, that weak voice can’t match Coverdale at the top of his game! (few can…)

    “No damage is done.”

Adel F, are you perhaps quoting Godzilla after he was done with Tokyo?!

    ; – )

But the comparison is unfair, Godzilla was after all provoked by nuclear testing, these guys have no excuse. And Don probably didn’t know what he was getting himself into – or had never heard the Mk III original.
